General Information on Casting

By pelirroja | November 5, 2007

Back when we first started the Lexicon, there were tons and tons of questions on the publishing process, what was an arc, how do release dates work, etc. In response to the flood of questions that we received, we were fortunate enough to have at site member who had a background in publishing and was able to take a bit of the mystery out of the process. We created the Publishing FAQ as a reference tool.

Well the new big question item has been regarding the movie and how does casting work. We are again fortunate to have a member who is a working, professional actor. Wolf_Boy has graciously written a "Casting FAQ" that will hopefully explain the process a little better.

We are also  seeking someone who would like to explain the movie process, as in what does optioned vs. filming mean, and just how does the IMDB work, and how reliable is it.

Why does the page say edmond? that’s JUST an example, right? they won’t, like, change Edward’s name or anything?

(what it says on the page:)

Lead: Edmond
* tall 6′ft2
* Caucasian
* brown hair,
* athletic body but not too muscular,
* kind and sensitive, always does the the right thing

??????????

Good question. But, “Vampire Kiss” is totally an example. Right?

Omygosh, people…It says “Forexample a film called ‘vampire kiss’…” It’s just an example, don’t worry! :)

I think this is a great idea, I want to go into the film buisness, but as a director, and I think this is an awesome breakdown of what needs to happen. I’ve never personally been through a casting process, but I know people who have and it’s stressful. A lot of girls who want to play bella, and just know they’re perfect for the role would be heartbroken if they went to and open casting call (I’m glad they aren’t having one) and found out they just aren’t right. Casting directors know who they have in mind and if someone is just not “it”, then that’s the end.

I also think you should put the casting FAQ in bold so that people see it right away! Or put it on the contact page, so that if someone is ready to send you an email, they’ll see it and hopefully they’ll stop themselves.

Right on Wolf Boy. ;)

I’d like to point out too that the process is very similar for auditioning for a commercial, however with call-backs the second audition goes a little differently if it’s just a solo role. You are one-on-one with either the director or the casting agent to see how your second run-through goes.

Anyhow, I’m glad that this is officially up on the Lexicon now. Hopefully it will clear up any fog for members who were confused before. ^_^

Thank you Pel, and of course fantastic work Wolf Boy! :D

I think that TOM WELLING (omg…superhottie) should play Edward. All the suggested options are too ugly for Edward. Please consider!!!

November 7th, 2007 at 3:45 am

Tyler Posey (AKA…superhottie!) should totally be jacob. PLEASE CONSIDER!

Girls please don’t do this. It only angers the mods and eats up bandwidth here on the main page.
PM each other if you have something you want to discuss, otherwise, leave this comment section clear of casting suggestions, okay?

THANK YOU!

Second off I’m not sure if this is the place to post this, (if it’s not, mods please feel free to move or delete it) but does anyone have any onformation on how I could become a member of the SAG???

I’m not sure where to leave this exactly, but I think James Franco would be a perfect Jacob. I was watching Spiderman 3 last night and for some reason, he struck me as a perfect wolf! Plus he has the smile.

And I love the possible Edwards too. Are there any ideas for a Bella yet?

I made it up :) I would also like to add this was a breif explanation i could write a book on how casting is done, It’s a very in depth process.

very imformative and helpful wolfBoy.
I’ve pursued acting for a good chunk of my life(mostly city theatre districts) and am about to try “making it” into films lol so your basic run through of the audition process for film/television was especially helpful to inform me as to how truly important a GOOD agent is in the process!

ok im babbling forever now. thanks!
:)

I think Jeremy Sumpter would be great for Edward. He is(according to Imdb) 6′1, and he has the looks for it.

i think tyler posey should play jacob. hes a hottie with the longish hair. ;)

I think that Chad Broskey from “Read It and Weep” should play Edward Cullen. I like his hairstyle from the movie and I think he should not change it since it fits Edward’s physical descriptions. Actually, he should not have 2 change his looks that much from that movie. He would be perfect for the role.

Whoever made the “Twilight the Movie” page in stepheniemeyer.com, if i have to choose from his options, i would choose Logan Lerman. I imagined Edward Cullen like this since I started reading the book. This person made the right choice putting Lerman in one of his options.

i think “Taylor Handley” makes a great Edward.
seriously, check him out. When i saw him on t.v i instantely said Edward.

I think Jena Malone should be Bella, too!!!
Shr must be Bella, she’s perfect!!!
but…. we should send a letter to the place where will be make Film…. WE MUST DO THAT!!!!! or they’ll choose to that Kristen Stewart. She is like Bella, but Jena Malone is like Bella too much!!!!
Jena Malone must be Bella, no other!!

35. Abden Says:
December 20th, 2007 at 3:28 pm

and Hayden Christensen would make Edward, I think like Nikki…

36. Jesu Says:

Jena Malone is so normal, she’s like bella, she’s not extraordinary in her image, for that she must be bella, because bella is a normal girl, she’s not extraordinarily beautiful, but she’s beautiful, the perfect Bella!!!
