Billy Burke Interview
By pelirroja | April 5, 2008
Billy Burke, who plays Charlie Swan in the Twilight movie, gave us a very candid interview. Thanks to Billy for taking the time to talk to us, and thank you to Cocoa for acting as our interviewer.

Some highlights include:
"I tend to gravitate towards characters that carry their damage in their hip pocket."
"I don’t think there’s anything he wouldn’t do to make Bella happy and to have her back in his life."
"If I were motivated only by a desire to please everyone, I’m sure the result would be pathetic and I’d probably end up guzzling bleach in my trailer."
Billy’s speaks candidly from the heart using language that is stronger than previous interviews, and language that is stronger than what appears in the Twilight books. The interview is a strong PG-13.

aweosme! a new interview!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 11:52 am
yay! I love new interviews! thanks so much…you guys spoil us
April 5th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I love him as charlie
April 5th, 2008 at 11:53 am
but he doesn’t sound like charlie to me….
April 5th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
even though the language was rough, that is kind of how i depict Charlie [even though he is protestant].
I liked the message to the fans though. He is very true on that aspect.
Is def. a different interview that the rest of the cast. He holds nothing back.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
He is going to be fine. He doesn’t really need to read the book to get the character… i mean. Really he knows it. You can tell. He is a bet crass but i think it only makes me love him more.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
haha he’s funny
April 5th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
haha…I just read the interview…I like Billy Burke….he is very down to earth
and somewhat colorful
Thanks~
April 5th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
The last part he said I Totally agree with him.I think he is going to make a pretty good Charlie.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
Lol, I like him- and he does remind me of Charlie!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
wow, that’s charlie for us. he’s pretty upfront, i like him! at least he’s being honest.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
that was an awesome interveiw! billy is going to make a great charlie
April 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Hahaha I like him. He’s great. I love the way he’s talking. He just says what he thinks and he doesn’t care if people like him or not.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
that was a great interview and i feel like he will be an amazing Charlie!
I also LOVE his message to the fans! i think we all need to read that!
I loved how “colorful” he was too! it made me laugh!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Thanks for the interview!
He’s going to make a great Charlie.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
what a cool guy..
April 5th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
He wouldn’t sound like Charlie because he ISN’T Charlie! Just an actor. Anyway I love Him! We have a lot in common. He really is a cool guy. Awesome interview!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
That was the most entertaining interview I’ve read so far. I love how everything he says is so frank and unedited. Nice to hear someone really speaking his mind. haha, he seems really cool and honest. Plus he seems to really get Charlie. Charlie’s not such a pivotal role that he NEEDS to read the book and research the character like we all wanted Rob to do as Edward. He looks exactly like Charlie to me too.
Thanks for the interview!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
That was a great message to the fans. I wish someone said that sooner.
Yep, he’s a little rough, but I think he has Charlie down. Also, his ruggedness could bring a new angle to Charlie we haven’t met before.
Never heard of you before this, but your awesome Billy!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
I think he’ll make a good Charlie…I just hope he doesn’t talk that crude in the movie. I mean, have we ever heard Charlie swear? Other wise I think he’s great. I LOVE it how he first “intoduced” himself to Kristen. That was great.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
WOW! That was really weird…..i hadn’[t pictured charlie like that but i guess it could work somehow.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:25 pm
A bit crud, deff doesn’t sounds like Charlie but I can some how see him as Charlie. Can’t wait see how the movie turns out.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Haha I love him! He’s pretty much amazing. Also I love his message to the fans. I think its something more of us should listen to.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
he’s soooo funny
he’ll be great as charlie
April 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
haha he’s really funny!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Ha. I love his blunt sense of humor, reminds me a wee bit of meself. “Drink bleach.” Billy is awesome.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Bella has got a hot dad, makes you wonder why did her mom leave him?
April 5th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
I just read the interview, and I must say, I am a little disappointed with him. I though he looked the part, but…I hope he doesn’t bring his own personality into the character, because his personality is NOT the way I pictured Charlie’s personality to be.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Sarah- he won’t push his own personality on the role.
That’s why it’s called ACTING
April 5th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
I love how honest he is. It was refreshing.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Gasp!! Such language!! Oh well, I curse sometimes too. I try not to do it too much, though.
Anyway, I think he’ll make a great Charlie. And its nice that he is being honest. He’s also really funny!!
Thanks for the interview!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
“Hi, I’m your dad.” ROFLMAO omg that was to funny XD
wow, he really tells it like it is doesn’t he? he deffinately not one of those actors who tells you the bs you want to hear but what he really thinks. while his personality made me raise an eyebrow at points i still think he’s going to be a great charlie.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Haha, that’s my new official favorite Twilight interview.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
that was interesting, every other interview that we’ve had has been people who are extremly excited to be apart of the movie, he’s just like meh, another gig, oh goodie. haha I approve of him even if it was not what I expected
April 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
That was mean when he said that he doesn’t read the books and said a bad word. I hope he will be a good Charlie.
April 5th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
i love how he looks but not reading the books makes me a little scared and what was with the whole i think he already knows???? i hope not!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Not at all what I expected but very refreshing for an actor to not feed everyone the words they are supposed to say or that they know they want to hear. Its nice to hear from more of the actors. I hope there are more to come! (I really hope someone does an interview with Elizabeth Reaser sometime in the future! )
-More interviews are comming soon.
~Cocoa
April 5th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
hehe I like him
April 5th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
lol okay if you take out the language (with thank you TL! I have babysitting little kids so I was able to shoo them away before reading it), I think that he’s a great Charlie. Charlie seems rough, deff doesn’t like to read, and whatnot and Billy Burke just seems just like Charlie. Of course he won’t cuss int he movie, he’s acting for one and I don’t think cussing is in the scrip.
LOVELY JOB TL!!! Thankie Cocoa!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
he is so frigging CUTE.!
who ever thought Charlie was going to be so hot.!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Hahaha… she thought i was a stalker…LOL
April 5th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Lawlz…”Hi Im your dad!”
Kristen mustve freaked out.
lololololololololololol
April 5th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
xDD Poor Billy, Kris thought he was a stalker.
I love him. He’s one of the few actors who speak their minds instead of trying to please everybody. He’s going to be fantastic.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
billy burke is PRETTY COOL.
the cussing got a bit annoying but w/e.
and if new moon is made into a movie,
he’ll be great in the scenes where
charlie gets all huffy when bella’s with edward.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Hahaha, I love the “Hi, I’m your Dad!” part.
And I think Billy is just very frank and open. He’s honest, and honesty is good. They’re all actors. They could be the very antithesis of honesty if they wanted to, and we likely wouldn’t know the difference.
But Billy was honest and opened his heart to Cocoa and all of us fans, and I respect that, coarse language and all.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Without a doubt Billy will make a great Charlie
I like how is very blunt and upfront with things. Honestly, I’d rather have the truth than have someone blindly say that everything is sunshine and puppies. Didn’t know if anyone mentioned it, but there is a curse word in the first response from Billy. I don’t know if you meant to *** it out. It is a**. So yeah. I didn’t mind–I mean come on. No one is perfect and that rough attitude will be great. Much luck!
I left that one thinking the way it was used it wouldn’t be too offensive to people who don’t like language since it was a description and not calling someone the word. Hope that makes sense.
Pel
April 5th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Well that was interesting.
Definitely not what I expected but I think he respects Twilight enough to try and make Charlie believable.
I mean give him a break, he atleast started reading Twilight.
lol.
I just also thought I should take the time out to remind everyone about voting for Stephenie in Time.
I mean seriously…Rain and Britney are beating her out.
Not cool!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
I think he’s pretty cool. Like someone said (too lazy to scroll back up and look, lol), he’s not really Charlie, he’s an actor, just like Rob and Kristen and everyone else. But I think he’ll do a good job, and am glad he’s honest.
Billy Burke, you have my support!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Hey, you guys, VOTE FOR STEPHENIE ON THAT TIME 100 THING!!! She’s losing to freaking BRITNEY SPEARS! We have to put a stop to this!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Isn’t it kind of funny that Bella’s parents in the movie both were bad guys on 24: Nina (Sara Clarke) and Gary Matheson (Billy Burke). It’s going to be hard for me to take those two people as the sweet and naive. Nina was the ultimate twist, exploitig Jack and CTU. Matheson abused his family and murdered his wife. It’ll just be interesting to see them in Twilight. They’re actors so I’m sure it’ll be good, it just made me laugh
April 5th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
What a BAMF! I like it that he’s so obnoxiously open about how he doesn’t read and thinks researching a role too much is stupid! Ha ha!
“Hi, I’m your Dad!” Ahahaha!
And his message to the fans was spot on! I like this dude alot!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I love him as Charlie! He’s going to be awesome! He may not admit it, but I think he’s got a lot in common with Charlie.
He doesn’t need to read the books. I mean, if it was KStewart or RPattz not reading, then I would be worried. but charlie? he’s not that hard of a character to figure out.
I didn’t mind the swearing (but thanx for the warning!)…besides, I think we’ve all heard what a potty-mouth Rob has. LOL.
Anyway - great interview. I love the bluntness! Awesome and can’t wait for more!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
hahaha that was funny to read. hes great! i have no worries that hes gonna be great in the film. i think hes a really good actor and knows what hes doing. i think hes honest and down to earth and cant wait for the movie :] thx for the interview.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Haha a little full of himself, isn’t he?
He kinda acts like everyone else has no idea about anything at all to do with movies, so thats pretty annoying.
But still idk i kinda like that he was at least honest?
Its weird but i love him and hate him at the same time.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
I’m a librarian and just in case Billy might read some of these comments (which I doubt), there’s always the AUDIO version of the book. No reading required and great for all that downtime on the set!
A good comeback for the interviewer, too, whenever someone mentions that they don’t like to read.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
well i just lost half the respect i dad for him.
i can’t remeber charlie swearing that much in all of the books combined times three.
does he realize how horrible that makes him look?
and that he hasn’t read the book. no way i would ever be in a movie that was based off of a book and not read the book.
dissapointed in him now.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
*had not dad*
April 5th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
After that interview, I have the slight inclination that I’ll be lovin’ me some Charlie, just as much as Edward, when the movie comes out.
I love the interviews when the celebrities talk like they aren’t reading off of a script, makes it a much more interesting read (plus, I’m a sucker for colourful language).
So he doesn’t sound like ‘Charlie’ in the interview, but really, should he? He was much more serious in ‘Untraceable’. Therefore, if he can act like another person there, then why be worried that he can’t act in character for ‘Twilight’.
I’m sure they wouldn’t have chose him, if he wasn’t convincing!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I’m so happy the man is made of flesh and blood, and says what’s in his heart, refreshing from all The “fakes” in Hollywood.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
I LOVE this man! He is hillarious! I think he’ll be GREAT! He’s a no nonsense kinda guy! He hasn’t read the book, who cares, he totally gets Charlie on another level!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
haha. hes so funny. i like him just in himself. as charlie, not so much. i pictured older, fatter, shyer, kindof .but hey, he seems to know the character pretty well and hes a good actor. so i think he will do a fine job.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
i love this guy. very bold, very colorful. interesting =)
April 5th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
i love him! finally someone whose not afaird to take our crap.
April 5th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
haha hes way to handsome to be charlie. i dont mind:D
April 5th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
I Completly LOVE Billy Burke now!!!
I havn’t laughed so much reading an interview until now, I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable for me so far!
I agree with him on the dream role part and I also don’t mind if he hasnt read Twilight or might not finish it. I believe he has firm grip on who Charlie is too.
It was Incredible how much him and I have the same on the outlook of things!!!!!! He is somebody I could soo hang out with!!!
and Thank you Billy for the comment to the fans you left on the bottom! I couldn’t have said it any better and I also couldn’t agree more!!!!!!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
i like him . very blunt . haha . although, he is younger looking than i picture charlie in my head . that’s okay though . he’s a pretty… good-looking dad .
….bella’s dad has got it going on….
April 5th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
yay for being real with the fans!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Karen:
I’m so glad you said something about 24! My husband and I are huge 24 fans. I made that connection a while ago and am excited such great actors are playing such diverse characters. I loved Nina until the ultimate plot twist and Kims’s boss (Burke) was scary! I think both will be totally convincing as Bella’s parents.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Well, he and Stephenie can certainly have a fun time talking about music. xD
I like ‘im.
And I guess he’s reading the book, so that’s good, haha.
The Kristen/plane bit made me giggle. Hah.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Ah, he’s awesome.
I cracked up at the stalker bit. XD
April 5th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
only just read the interview, my comment before was just after seeing the picture… i LOVE him!!
and oh yes we do care if youre single.
lol melinda, yes, bellas dad has got it going on…:D
April 5th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
He’s PERFECT for Charlie. He doesn’t seem like the kind of actor with a big ego, that good, actually, he seems so normal, like a friend.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Also, I’ve read Twilight about a million times and I’m glad that they’re putting new stuff in it. I want to be pleasantly surprised in the theater. I heard that Stephanie let them use material from Midnight Sun. Also, the special effects and the new action scenes should make our hearts beat even faster…if you can imagine that!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
He’s funny
April 5th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
HAHAH,

HE IS SOO HONEST
FUNNY MAN,
April 5th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Oh god he didn’t know that in the movie he doesn’t know about bella n the vamps?
But i did like the oprah book part lol
April 5th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
OK, I like him. The way he thinks and the way he talks really were similar to the way I pictured Charlie.
And I loved the Oprah comment too!
April 5th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
I didn’t know he was in 24, than I guess I only glimpse through that show.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
he rocks lol
April 5th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Haha, that was great! Thanks Cocoa!
He seems very funny and real - no BS. I think he’s quite a talented actor. I watched him in 24, and he really gave me the creeps (he was supposed to - his character beats his daughter/wife), and am looking forward to him in Twilight.
His sense of humour is awesome too.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
To Brittany: Please don’t try to insult me with the use of film. My whole family is in the film business–I literally grew up on movie sets. There is no such thing as acting where there is no part of the actor’s own personality in the role. No matter how miniscule, there is ALWAYS a part of the actor’s personality in the role. Here is a good example: I met Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel. They act very similar to their characters in the Gilmore Girls. Except Alexis is even more shy and Lauren is even more talkative, if that’s possible. (Sorry Pel and Alphie, but it makes me very upset when someone thinks that they know more about film than I do who obviously doesn’t know much about film.)
-Lets end this argument here before it turns into something more. ~Cocoa
April 5th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Ha Ha that’s so funny bout the dad thing. Hey guys heads up if u haven’t already head over to His golden eyes.com and check out there new info they have some great very close up’s of bella and edward.
and some jacob stuff.
April 5th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Oh gosh, this guy is priceless! I can’t wait to see him in the movie. =)
April 5th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I like him.
I think it’d be pretty interesting to see how his personality affects his role as quiet, protective, fatherly Charlie. Personally, while it would be endearing and a little helpful for him to read Twilight in its entirety, I don’t think he really needs to from what he’s shown in the interview. To me, he’s got Charlie right on the money (or close to it, anyway, lol). If they ever get to do New Moon, I could seriously imagine him as the father silently grudging his daughter’s boyfriend and thinking thoughts that Bella would rather not hear
April 5th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
[...] The Lexicon has a Billy Burke Interview April 5th, 2008 The Twilight Lexicon has an interview with Billy Burke HERE. Please be cautioned that there is strong language in the interview. [...]
April 5th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
He seems like a really good choice for Charlie - but I am saddened over the lack of enjoyment he has in reading. I wonder if he has ever tried audio books. Although I love reading, not every book grabs my attention. (Lord of the Rings comes to mind.) I’m glad he’s at least trying to read the books. How can anyone not get literally sucked into the Twiligh Universe?
April 5th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Vote Stephenie on the TIME thing.
She is losing to BRITNEY SPEARS!
April 5th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
I WAS JUST ON TWILIGHT MOM’S WEBSITE AND THEY UPLOADED PICTURES OF ROBERT AND KRISTEN WHILE FILMING AND THERE IS GOING TO BE AN INTERVIEW WITH BOTH ROB AND KRISTEN ON MTV SOME TIME NEXT WEEK. HERE IS A LINK TO THE PICTURES : http://twilightmomsforums.freeforums.org/tmi-report-officially-on-the-set-4-4-08-adds-p-15-23-t5259.html
April 5th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Thanks! I love reading interviews
He sounds like a cool guy and I can’t wait to see him play Charlie. I think that he will do great
April 5th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I loved the fact that he spoke his mind and was so frank about playing the part of Billy I also like the message at the end I think all the Twilight crazies like me
should read it because frankly im tired of hearing all the whining about the movie not being exactly like the book i mean i really dont give a crap that Ashley’s hair is like 2in longer than alices or that jacksons hair is curly as long as they get great actors and stay true(not word for word)to the book is all i care about and im confident that they are doing just that.
April 5th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
Thanks Cocoa, a BIG hug for you!! And this guy is really outspoken, he doesn’t pretend to be what he’s not….I really think he’s gonna make a good job as Charlie!
April 5th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
All the actors are dedicated, and I’m sure Billy is dedicated as well. Yeah, he may not show the softness like some other people, but that is who he is. Don’t insult someone just because they don’t fit your expectations. You don’t like it? Don’t watch it.
The actors are all great. I’ve written to them and got amazing responses. They are all humble and want to makes Twilight really good for Stephenie and all the fans.
For those of you who disagree, I suggest you stick to the book instead of whining about how not good the movie is going to be EVEN THOUGH it has yet to be released.
By the way, thanks for clearing up my question, Pel =)
April 5th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
That was a great interview. He’s spot on. I like this dude. Book Charlie: never saw as remotely hot. Movie Charlie: kinda sexy.
April 5th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
hahaha he is so great and yummy! oh wait he is Charlie, it is a bit weird that Charlie is hot.
April 5th, 2008 at 3:56 pm
This guy is extremely practical and down to earth. He may not BE a Charlie, but that’s okay. He’ll do just fine.
April 5th, 2008 at 4:05 pm
hmmm. That was interesting. Does the cussing bother anyone else? I know it bothers me, I was actually getting used to him being Charlie but now I really don’t like him.
April 5th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I don’t mind the swearing, but thats just my opinion. I really do like him as Charlie, “Hi, I’m your Dad” ROTFL! Soooo anxious for the movie!
April 5th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Wow….
Kind of crude, but the blunt honesty really is refreshing….

April 5th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
Oh candid, my favorite type. I wouldn’t have an interview any other way!
April 5th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Just saw Billy on a Law and Order last week. He is so darn cute, and I agree with almost everyone else…he’ll make a great Charlie…….a little cranky, a little rebellious and a cutie pie.
April 5th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
That was a really good interview, you guys are great! As for Billy, I didn’t expect him to be brutally honest…which just makes me love him even more! Hah. It’s cool though, he’s funny! I loved the message he added in the end, he’s sooo right! I wish people would just get that into their brains, already!
PS: As for all of you who awkwardly admit he’s hot…you’re not alone! Lol. I mean, I kinda felt weird that when I read all the books, I had this fatherly image in my head. But wow, when I saw Billy, dang. He’s hot. =P
PPS: Cocoa, you rock! Thanks a bunch! =]
April 5th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
i thought of charlie as fat hes a potty mouth dang but im from utah so i guess that thats a little different 4 me he doesnt seem very happy idky but he doesnt thanks alot cocoa
April 5th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
i luv the way he says things. it’s definatley different from the other interviews. the others were kinda trying to make a good impression and show us how good they were for the role. but Billy said what he was thinking and basically said “if u don’t think i’m good for the part, screw u, cuz i’m Charlie whether u like it or not.” and i think he is absolutely Charlie!!! go Billy!!
April 5th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
wow he’s so cool!! I love how he expressed himself, he’ll be the perfect Charlie for sure!
April 5th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I love this guy!! He’ll be a great Charlie! He doesn’t try to prove anything, he’s Charlie, that’s it!!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
BILLY…I know you’ll never cross paths with my comment, however your interview was a breath of fresh air for me. It’s difficult being in my 40’s loving the series and having to put up with ‘teen’ careful dialog in every site. It’s getting on my nerves actually. (I mean there are adults buying and reading this book!-, and YES I do belong to TwilightMoms, still.. it’s not a site geared for adults either.) So my friend says, ” OH.. he’s so young for Bella’s father.” I kind of gave her a look out of the corner of my eye.. and said, “Umm he’s too young to be YOUR father, Bella is 17 remember?” Moral of the story, we really don’t see ourselves as parental figures to the young cast, we kinda have the hots for the Vampires. Ugh. I’m all confused.
So..Billy… a note in ending, you’ll be great as Charlie, hey you didn’t get enthralled in the book, but you have his ticket. You are on the mark.
Look forward to seeing you on the big screen.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
I love him as Charlie! I think he’ll be great! And, I think he has a great sense of humor! “I’m your dad” ha ha! I can just picture that!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
this guy is so cool and so laid back he will be a great charlie i can just see him giving Bella “the talk” if they make eclipse into a movie
thanks cocoa!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Great interview and answers, I love how candid Billy is. He is so refreshing and REAL with his answers and I can’t wait to see his portrayal of Charlie. PS Billy: I have a feeling that on some tiny inside level, Charlie knows about the Cullens and LaPush pack too!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
haha I love him! He’s so honest and it’s a very refreshing interview to read.
He will be a great Charlie.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Eh, he’s all right.
I think that appearance wise, he’s perfect for Charlie.
Also, he’s really honest, which I always pictured Charlie as. But in my mind, Charlie’s not that outspoken. And I can’t imagine him cursing that much (except in his mind at Edward, of course!).
I’ve never seen him in any movies or TV shows, so I can’t really comment on his acting. But I do think that if he’s a good enough actor, then he can come through as the shy, super clumsy dad that we all know and love.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
LOL! After reading some of the previous comments, I just thought I’d add that I definitely can picture him giving Bella ‘the talk’!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
For apperence he’s alright. He looks a bit young to have a 17 year old daughter but I still support him and all of the actors.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Look out here comes charlie haha lol!!!!!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Besides the fact that he is totally HOTTTTTTT, I wonder if he thinks we are unhappy with him. I loved the interview. Thanks Cocoa
*Billy, as soon as I found out you were playing the role as Charlie I thought PERFECT. Not only do I pick you over Dennis Quaid, but I even prefer you over SM’s pick on her website. You are the Bomb, man. My #1 pick.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Hehe! I love this guy! XD
I love that he doesn’t sugarcoat everything for us, nor does he answer untruthfully. He answered these questions in a way I would never expect any other actor to. Its awesome!
He’s going to be a great Charlie, I’m sure. He’ll bring something different to him, something I’m definitely going to be looking forward to :3
April 5th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Ha…He made me crack up.
Very good interview.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Loved the interview!
Just wanted to mention: Stephenie Meyer’s holding steady at 82% on the Time poll, and Rain has dropped a percent! She’s still in third, Spears is still ahead of her too(ugh).
So don’t forget to keep voting guys!

April 5th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
that’s the best, most honest answered interview yet. that guy is bloody awesome. i love people like that, tell it like it is. he’s going to make a fine charlie!!
April 5th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
HAHA! What a legend. I love this guy - he has personality. x]
April 5th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
i think he is perfect- dont you see him running off as a gorgeous teenager and getting married right out of highschool?! thats what happened- why should he look like the typical old - not necessarily unattractive- but… not attractive dad that most people picture… he’s great
April 5th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Great charlie! Love his volcabulary lol
April 5th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
Billy Burke? He’ll probably do very well in his portrayal of Charlie. But in real life, he sounds like the quintessential stuck up jerk. He can be blunt, up front, in your face and to the point without using profanity and offending, or worse yet influencing, some of the younger Twilight fans. His lack of class and intelligence is transparent through his use of such juvenile profanities. Yeah, he’ll do well in the part as Charlie, but he’s far from "cool".
-Please remember that we did alert you as to the mature content of the interview prior to your reading it. And that there are far fewer cuss words found in this interview then your average YA book or PG 13 movie. Personal attacks such as calling him unintelligent, or a Jerk are uncalled for. He was kind enough to give us this interview. You are more then welcome not to like what he said, but you are not welcome to insult him here. ~Cocoa
April 5th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
i agree, Twilight Fan Forever… it was a little obnoxious…
April 5th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
hm…
well I completely despise Charlie in the books, I think he’s an crude and vile (Eclipse really brought that side out), so I’m not expecting to like him in the movie.
Not sure if I really like the actor either, hard to say until we actually see his acting.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
For anything I said that was construed as a personal attack, I apologize to all as that was not my intent. It was my opinion, not a personal attack. If you actually read what I wrote, you would see that I said he “sounds like” a jerk. Stating that someone’s lack of intelligence is transparent in using profanity is an age-old proverb that doesn’t specifically call someone unintelligent, merely that he lacks the vocabulary to use alternative words. Also, I didn’t say I didn’t like what he said, only HOW he said it. Additionally, I did say he would probably do well in the part, which is a compliment. What I stated was opinion.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
To the Twilight Fan Forever:
Yes, “lack of intelligeng” does mean that someone is unintelligent. That was VERY rude for you to say that about Billy Burke. So someone uses a couple of cuss words, it’s won’t be the end of the world.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
“Lack of intelligence” is what I meant to say, I’m typing with one hand.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Oh sweet, Billy was on 24 too? Awesome!
April 5th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Haha. That was quite…interesting. I’m glad he stayed true to himself and didn’t try to kiss butt to the fans. I absolutely loved his message to the fans. I quite agree.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
HAHHAHAH THIS GUY WINSSS
:D
April 5th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
The Twihard: Obviously Twilight Fan Forever apologized for any offense. I don’t think it is necessary for you to get on his/her case. They stated that they did not mean to insult. How can you know what they were thinking? To Cocoa: Even with a warning in advance, I kind of agree that a young adult book site should be kept to young adult language. Thank you for the interview though. Overall it was a good interview. Twilight Fan Forever: I totally agree.
It is interesting that you are responding to Twilight Fan when actually you are the same person, exact ip and email. Please refrain from creating multiple accounts to try to prove your point.

April 5th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I loved this interview the best so far! He is honest, not Hollywood! There is no BS to weed through with this guy! I think he will be perfect!
And I really hope all the fans read that last part, it is true! This movie has already shown progress, it will never be the book, and it will be it’s own life and beautiful I am sure!
April 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
HAHAHA! i LOVE him!
he’s perfect
April 5th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
He is nothing like the Charlie in my mind personality wise but thats why they call it acting. I’m sure he’ll do a good job.
April 5th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I’m REALLY happy that I didn’t find lot’s of “he can’t possibly be Charlie!” messages!
I love him as Charlie! He may not be totally prepared to play Charlie and maybe he hasn’t read 2 1/2 books, BUT he’s honest about it!
I’m really happy with Summits desicion to cast him
April 5th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

^^
April 5th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
I like him. I adore this personality. He is nothing like the Charlie I had in my mind. But I can definitely see him playing him. I am really happy with the decision of casting him. Plus, he is very handsome.
April 5th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Actually, we’re having a sleepover and fighting over who gets to post next. Delete us if you must. We’re just fans with opinions. Not owned, honest.
April 5th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Not only is he pleasing to the eye, he is delightful to the ear..My kind of guy..Can’t wait for the movie..everyday it gets harder..
April 5th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
When one thinks about Charlie- a single hard-core fisherman, living alone in a small town, I cn easily see Billy playing this part. I don’t know how many single fishermen most people know, but let me assure you; Typically they do cuss, and are every bit as honest at Billy is.
And about not reading hte books; Charlie probably wouldn’t, you know. * Shrugs * and it sounds like he has the charecter down pretty well.
( ‘Gargling bleach’ LoL! Me too, Billy!)
April 5th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
The interview could have easily been posted without the language by paraphrasing some of his answers, but then it would not have given us a true picture of the actor’s personality. Like it or not, that’s who he is. That said, I appreciate the warning about his language before I read the interview. We all now know what you mean about the PG-13 language, and we can choose to read or not to read. (English teacher here - I cringe when these words are used so easily. But that’s MY problem, not his. Unless he ends up in one of my classes! lol)
LOL! I hear you Shelley. We debated on what to do and we thought the warning would suffice and took the *** editing to what would have been done in a standard entertainment magazine. We figured it was the easiest way to balance possibly offending people and keeping the integrity of the interview.
Pel
April 5th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I don’t care much about his language but he seems like a laid back person and umm..hes too hot to be Charlie!
April 5th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
well he’s colourful but he seems kinda angrey. the look is dead on. but i think chrlie was more caring that billy.just my opinion
April 5th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
He is still the perfect Charlie. :] Despite the language and all.
April 5th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
that was pretty cool. he’s so real. that is the exact mentality/personality i invisioned charlie with, even though billy is just an actor. he will be great! i really liked how he was just himself, and didn’t feel the need to act (pun intended) for the fans. i’m so excited for the movie!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Hey guess what, you don’t have to like someone as a person to like them as an actor! Isn’t THAT a great revalation! Just take Russell Crowe for example…
So, once again, let’s all callllmmm down and just see how he actually does in the movie!
Have a good weekend all!
April 5th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
“Hi I’m your dad”???????????????????
that made me laugh. a lot.
April 5th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
“Hi, Im your dad” like him already!
April 5th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
haha I love him xD I lol’ed at a lot of parts xD
and I reeeally liked his message to the fans. He’ll be awesome (:
April 6th, 2008 at 12:03 am
I love how he doesn’t try to sugarcoat what he really feels about things. I think he’s going to be a perfect Charlie!
April 6th, 2008 at 12:16 am
he’s awesome! i thought his interview was really honest
can’t wait to see him as Charlie!
April 6th, 2008 at 12:22 am
I agree with those of you that have said you liked the Oprah comment, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony that this site has recently been trying to get Twilight on “Oprah”.
April 6th, 2008 at 12:22 am
I like him….but I think he is too hot to play Charlie
April 6th, 2008 at 12:32 am

the interview wuz cool 2, very fresh and straitforward, no bs, I like this guy!!!
April 6th, 2008 at 1:32 am
That was an awesome interview. You can’t fault a guy for being honest. That was brave admitting he hasn’t finished the book though.
April 6th, 2008 at 1:41 am
We won’t care if he’s single? Yeaaaaaaah right, lol, he’s hot!!! (bom chicka wah wah!) Even though I think I might be scared to approach him (hehehe, jk), I like his personality. I’m sure when Charlie is with his friends, he has a side to him that we haven’t seen (or what’s hinted at may shine thorugh). I wonder if he knows that Twilight has fans of all age groups? If not, someone should tell him before he finds himself hiding from ravenous teens, moms, and grandma’s a like, lol (The Cullen boys aren’t the only one’s to be afraid…very afriad).
April 6th, 2008 at 2:04 am
i think he’d be a pretty awesome charlie. he seems pretty funny too.
oh i love the “hi, i’m your dad” part of the interview. lol
April 6th, 2008 at 3:58 am
If Kristen get’s interview, they should ask her about the “Hi, I’m your dad”, lol. I’d love to hear what she has to say about it.
April 6th, 2008 at 5:16 am
April 6th, 2008 at 7:25 am
He doesn’t seem like Charlie at all, lets just hope that means he’s a good actor.
April 6th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Well Dennis Quaid was never offered the part, so qive it a rest, what do you like people who baby talk you., because it seems now I day a person can’t express him or herself without being totally PC aka Politically Correct. Well I appreciate that Billy is not a hyporcrite, he doesn’t want you to like him? who won’t lose sleep over it, this man has not sold his idenity to the bright lights of Hollywood, where they tell you to be someone else. Good for Billy. I support you all the way as Charlie. Just because some immature babies get take the heat.
April 6th, 2008 at 8:27 am
I hope everyone knows that this interview, unlike peter facinelli, was OUT OF CHARACTER.
IT’S CALLED ‘ACTING’ PEOPLE.

April 6th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
I absolutely love how down to earth he is. Thanks lex for this incredibly entertaining interview. His personal message to the fans was perfectly stated. Everyone needs to read that! Thanks again!!
April 6th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Haha. I love how honest he is.
XD
He didnt sugar coat a thing. :]
I’m sure he will act as Charlie very well.

April 6th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
I reallly like how he was really staright with everything and how he didn’t go out of his way not to use curse words. I mean now we kind of know his real personality and I for one really like it. I think he’ll be a great Charlie because I think he’s really got down what Charlie is thinking and what Charlie feels. Billy Burke brought up a lot of good points and I can’t wait to see the way he protrays Charlie in the movie.
April 6th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
Billy Burke is totally awesome. I LOVE his straight-forward manner, he is not the fake little wanna-please-everyone actor. Definitely sounds like he knows Charlie even without reading the whole book. He’ll be brilliant as Charlie not only because he understands the character but because he’ll know how to portray him realistically.
April 6th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
He’s pretty awesome! When he said that everyone wanted dennis quaid to play charlie i was like, “where did that come from?” and then I remembered that Stephenie had suggested it. The power of suggestion is amazing!
I personally always imagined Scott Patterson, but I always imagine him as the dad in all the books I read. I don’t know why. But I think that Billy Burke will be great, I’ve supported him from the moment I saw he was cast because I believe that the casting directors know what they’re doing! *Raises hand* I support Billy Burke!
April 6th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
thanks for the interview! he looks like the perfect charlie, but he could have been nicer in the interview though…. oh well
and the “hi, im your dad” part was funny lol
April 6th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Haha! I love his sense of humor. I like that he was frank about things and said how he really felt. I loved his comment about meeting Kirsten Stewart on the plane. Great interview!
April 6th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. How can you be an actor and dont be able to finish a book??!!
( Sorry for my english, Im french)
April 7th, 2008 at 3:44 am
Ahhh… I wish he wasn’t so good looking… I was kinda hoping for Charlie to be the one guy who balances out all the hotness in this movie (not that I imagined him ugly, just more average and not as good-looking)… lol oh well then.
Great interview!
April 7th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
(sarcasm)
sonded like a nice guy.
I honestly can’t see him as charlie, tho. oh well.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
That man has the best taste in music ever. Ray and Amos make me weak in the knees.
April 7th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
he’s too hot to be Charlie XD i always pictured Charlie as a like, 48 year old dude with a beer belly and being halfway bald! lol Oh well ,i’m sure he’ll be great anywhoo
April 8th, 2008 at 1:33 am
i think he got a pretty amazing grip on charlie. i mean so what if the dude didn’t read the books. charlie is a universal character, a guy separated from his wife and wants to be closer to his daughter. that’s pretty much all of charlie you can get. and i love how refreshingly honest he is. it’s not often that you find someone who says “sorry, but i’m not a big reader” especially when it comes to adaptations. he’s real. very charlie-esque. he’ll do great. he’s already got a grasp on him.
rock on dude
April 8th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Love that Billy is his own man.
Didn’t expect him to look so sexy!
Great interview Cocoa, thanks.
April 10th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
yeah. he seems like a total jerk. but he isnt trying to impress us, he apparentley dances to the beat of his own drum, and i like THAT about him. but he seems like someone i wouldnt want to be a friend with.
but hey? im sure hes a great actor.
Twi.:D
April 16th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Omg,♥
That was awsome!?!?!?!
I cant wait for the movie.
I think Billy is a better charlie than Denis Quad.
Just how i pictured him?!?!
Rene ( bella’s mom) is just how i pictured her too!>!>!>!
The anticepation with this film is driving me banana’s…
I wish it cam out over the summer so I wouldn’t have to wait
like 260 more days…its not like i keep track……..lol
I wish Billy the best of luck and
Im sure he won’t suck..
Or heal find me outside his house with a pitch fork, rope, and a machine gun….lol..jk
Im hoping Kristen ( bella) and Rob ( edward) capture the chemistry and ramce that Bella and Edward share in the book?!?!

I think he makes a good Charlie, but does anyone else get the feeling that he was a little drunk and didnt care in that Interview?

This man is hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing while I read this interview. I like that he was candid with no frills or BS. More honest the better I say.
