    Movie News

    By Twilight_News | December 15, 2008

Reelz Channel Interviewed several Twilight fansite operators and ask them their opinion of Chris Weitz. You can see the reaction from around the fandom including ours here.

MTV has confirmed with Summit that there are other actors vying for the role of Jacob Black and pitching their resume to be considered for everyone’s favorite Volturi Aro. There’s also coverage on Rob and Kristen and those oh so romantic scenes. The also have pulled together an article on Chris Weitz here.

Jennie Garth, wife of Peter Facinelli, gave her opinion to Access Hollywood about her husband’s future as Carlisle.

The View Point Inn, the site of the prom in the Twilight movie, was hit by what appears to be an electrical fire.  Prior to the fire, the Inn had been trying to raise funds for various preservation projects.

Variety is confirming that Summit will release New Moon on November 20, 2009.

Oh and that is reaction of the SITES not the Fandom. We all know what has went on the past few weeks concerning the director. I find it funny that there were absolutly no negative words in that article.

I probably should clarify, we were not asked what our site’s opinion was, because I would have had very different answer based on a poll we set up and blog comments. They asked what as a site op we thought, so we answered based on what we were asked.

I directed Reelz Channel to the poll I put up so they could see the fan reaction. They didn’t choose to put that in the article. I don’t know if that was because, they weren’t intersted in that info, they were interested but we were down and they couldn’t see it, or a combo of the two. We did however specifically refernece the post and poll to them.

Ben’s a bit young to play Aro… and Michael kind of makes me want to shoot myself in the foot.

      Bring back Taylor!

I AM GOING TO PERMANETLY BOYCOTT NEW MOON IF THEY REPLACE TAYLOR!!! I WONT SEE IT AT -ALL-!!!

Ben Barnes as Aro - well he looks so young. But i will judge when i see him on screen and in costume. I am sure he’ll be great as my freakish and evil (and i say evil, not evil-ish) Aro.

to those who will not see new moon because taylor isn’t it - i am not sure Summit cares - because i’d bet there are at least a thousand (estimating) persons that will not see the movie - it’s such an insignificant number against the people that WILL see it. So if you’re not seeing it, have fun. I however, will see New Moon. it looks like a promising film just because of it’s dircector (CHRIS ROCKS) and because new moon is a great book and i am sure Chris will do a great job bringing it to the big screen.

and i think it’s more or less final. Taylor is out.
i feel bad for him, but new moon is not solely about Taylor lautner. It’s a much much better story than that.

and ALPHIE AND PEL - thankyou thankyou thankyou for bringing the sit up on line. i am sure it took a tremondous amount of work. thanks SO incredibly much.

I actually wouldn’t mind Copon as the older Jacob Black. Of course I love Taylor, but it would be a challenge for the movie people to make him look much older, wouldn’t it? Taylor was a very good younger Jacob Black, but I would be happy with Copon as the older, werewolf version of Black. (That’s just based on his looks, mind you. I’ve not seen him act yet.)

And of course my first choice for the older Jacob would be Steven Strait. ^_^; I adore him. Heh.

    9. Mare Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Wow. Michael Copon seems like a real humble, classy actor posting those status updates on Facebook.

I really hope they decide to stay with Taylor. End of story.

Is Aro young in the books? I pictured him as a wrinkly 70 year old?

    10. Emma Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

well 27 seems pretty young for aro but i bet with the right makeup he will be fine.

but i agree with shannon about how copon makes me want to shoot myself in the foot.

if they had to replace taylor lautner i would say steven strait because he is so adorable! tho he looks nothing like taylor.

but it will be weird no matter who plays jacob to have a new random actor partway through the serious.

      poorpoor taylor!!

    11. k.mo Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

ok, summit needs to wake up and smell the coffee. re-casting jacob would be shooting themselves in the foot. people have already grown to like taylor… replacing him would ignite a negative fan reaction of epic proportions. have a little faith in lautner! place him in some three inch boots, make him lift a few weights, and call it a day!!!!

    12. Erin Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

I cannot believe they are even considering replacing Jacob!! I’m not the biggest Jacob fan, but that’s just ridiculous! Bad idea. REALLY bad idea… I mean, he did such a great job in Twilight, even though he didn’t have that many lines… Do you mind me asking…Why?

Ben for Aro sounds good though!

how can they change jacob after they already got millions of girls obsessed with him (me include) what would edward fans say if they made some ugly guy edward… because that’s what they are considering doing to jacob fans? so not fair. i and all jacob fans were so excited to see new moon because it is all about jacob, but if they replace taylor lautner, they are commiting new moon suicide!

I saw michael copon on One Tree Hill and if that is any indication of his acting abilities then I’m really scared. He’s not that great of an actor and I’m not sure he has what it takes. If they’re going to replace Jacob they need to do it with someone who’s actually able to act.

    21. Freakinloon Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

Summit’s decision to leave Taylor’s name out of the press release speaks volume. We better prepare to say goodbye.

As great an actor as Ben Barnes is, (saw him in a indie film called Bigga than Ben — highly recommend) I truly think Aro should be an older actor. Don’t ask me why, but when I read the first seen with Aro, I pictured Vincent Cassel. Granted, he’s French, but I bet he could do an Italian accent. Definitely someone in their 40’s should play Aro.

When is Larry Carroll going to sit down and talk to Weitz? I think that’s an interview Summit needs to do ASAP. An open letter is one thing, getting Larry to talk to him would be even better.

    22. Freakinloon Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:10 pm

Oh, and a release date of November 20, 2009? Of all the things I’ve read in the past four weeks, that’s what has scared me the most.

That screams “We’re getting this movie out, quality be damned!”

Also, I want to toss in my thanks to ALPHIE & PEL for their hard work in bringing the site back up. It’s not much but I appreciate all you do to get this Twilight fan the latest news.

makes me sad about taylor…but as long as the person they cast as jacob can actually ACT the part, and isn’t just jacob because he LOOKS like jacob, then i’m happy. It’s not like it’s our choice anyway. I like the ben barnes guy for Aro. I heard he was supposed to be in the Portrait of Dorian Grey too, which is one of my fav. books.

    24. Morgan Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:19 pm

If I’m remembering correctly, Bella describes the Volturi as seeming older only by the difference of their skin. That their skin seemed to be almost translucent, like “onionskin.” Also that Aro’s eyes were cloudier than the others. I’m not sure, but I don’t think she ever specifies as to their age.

As for replacing Taylor, I loved him, but I don’t know if he does the whole huge, menacing, but beautiful thing for me. That goes for others too. Not EVERY Twilighter out there wants him to stay.

    25. Marie Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

I’m not sure Michael Copon will be such a good Jacob - I really wish they could keep taylor… However, I really hope Ben Barnes gets the part of Aro, it’s just how I imagined Aro, and he did a good job in Narnia.

    26. Mare Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:26 pm

I’m hoping that Stephenie Meyer will help to cast Jacob because it seems that she may be the only one untainted by Hollywood and money. She will stay true to the characters.

I love how everyone is jumping in on the Twilight bandwagon…Ben Barnes, Audrina from The Hills, The Veronicas…ha ha.

    27. Natasha Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

      Okay- hang on a sec:
Ben looks like he could be a really good “older” Jacob, but what about Taylor?!?!?!?!? Why won’t he be in the sequels????? I’m really confused! :-(

    28. Em Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

i really hope they’re not going to recast taylor.
i just read this on people.com:

Weitz himself says in a letter posted on the Web site that he plans to live up to the expectations devoted fans have for the next movie, which will star all the same actors in the primary roles, including Robert Pattinson as Edward, Kristen Stewart as Bella and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black.

i know its not the most reliable source, but it definitely got my hopes up!! now im worried :(

    29. Lucy Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:46 pm

Ok, just to clarify, I’m upset about Taylor being out. I think almost everyone is. :-( But, still, that’s no reason not to go see it. I mean, come on people. Stop with the melodramatics. Seriously. “IF TAYLOR IS REPLACED I SWEAR I WON’T GO SEE NEW MOON!” Come on. Of course you will. You probably won’t like it as much, but you’re still going to go see it. Even if they cast a new Jacob, I’m pretty sure that a lot of people (I’m not saying everyone) will get semi-used to him, at the very least. If you think about it realistically, Jacob is like a completely different person after Twilight, so a recast might actually be a good idea.
All I’m saying is don’t start howling until you actually see the actor that is replacing Taylor. Who know? He might be even cuter (but I don’t think that anyone can top Taylor ;-) )

    30. Daisy Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 10:48 pm

      so, i’m confused.

So i feel a little better after some appeasement from Stephenie that Chris is aware of the influence of the Twilight fanbase (or at least scared of our backlash… either way..) But this less than a year goal date is worrysome, indeed.

We want quality above all. The writing and craftsmanship of these books and Stephenie’s depth of character-driven plot are what sucked us into the Forks universe. Lets not produce some watered-down impostor in the name of the almighty dollar, Summit. You’ve made your quota for the year a few times over, thanks to the Twilight-fandom, lets not bite the hand that feeds.

On another note. People.com is reporting on Stephenie’s official post on her website calming us down and asking us to put away our “torches and pitchforks”. The last paragraph does offer some, hope however that Taylor will be signed on for New Moon. I don’t know if they simply don’t have their ear to the ground on this issue or if they know something we haven’t gotten confirmed yet. Personally i think a magazine like People would check their facts before publishing, so maybe there is hope… Here’s the link.

I thought hiring a new director was a very sad, necessary, scary thing to do. However, I do not want them to fire Taylor! This is his big break and he’s been talking in interviews about all the things he’s looking forward to bringing to the character in the sequels. He’s a black belt and I saw him bust out some KILLER moves on “My Own Worst Enemy.”

      I’m really sad for him…

I wonder also… casting all these new, model-beautiful, actors- is it going to throw the dynamic with the current cast off? Make them shine less brightly so to speak… I hope not. :S

    33. Jamie Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:15 pm

I’m on the fence about the whole Jacob issue. I liked Taylor in Twilight, and I don’t see why they can’t do something with him for Nm, but to say that you “absolutely won’t see the movie if Taylor isn’t in it” is just crazy! We all HAVE to see this movie. We want the others made, right?? We need to continue to support this franchise, so we can see all 4 books on the silver screen. :-)

My big concern, though, is this set date of Nov. 20, 2009 for release?? WTF??? I mean-come on! How in the world can they really make a quality picture in less than a year??!! that makes NO SENSE to me! I”m not in the “biz”, but please. Really?? That has me worried.

Not sure who this Ben character is, but I got the feeling that Aro was on the old side, and if this guy is in his 20’s, I don’t see how they can pull it off. Lots of make up I guess.

And yes, someone please pop that Michael Copon dude! Humble much? Yuck! We don’t want some snot-nose, snooty actor messing up the cast! that’s just gross that he’s petitioning on his own Facebook page! What a chump! Blech!!!

    34. Jaci Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:27 pm

I love taylor! there is no way they can replace him, out of all of the characters in new moon, jacob is my favorite and taylor definitely has the positive attitude and spirit that the role needs.

    35. Emily Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:35 pm

i guess i can see the Copon guy playing Jacob, but i really want Taylor to stay playing him. cause the Jacob character starts to be one of the main characters in the next movie, and i would hate to have them replace the actor =(

    36. Brianna Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

Is there any way to make a more effective point than a simple individual letter to summit to demonstrate how important it is that they keep taylor? i would be heartbroken if they replaced him. is there any kind of mass consensus we could give them?

    37. Mare Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:44 pm

…and to those that say we have no say in the matter of casting.

That is true. BUT, we the fans are the reason there is going to be a second movie. If we had not seen Twilight multiple times, they would not have the funds- so that does give us a stake in this, doesn’t it?

    38. Tia Says:
      December 15th, 2008 at 11:54 pm

      i’m not watching this movie.
      this sounds horrible.
bad move summit, especially after choosing the director of failed movies to direct it. and less than a year away? no. effing. way.

poor taylor first his show my own worst enemy gets canceled now this but i kinda knew this was going to happen to him since he looks so young and in the other books jacob looks older they should use him at least for the beginning pre werewolf jacob then switch in the middle when he changes but at least get someone who sort of looks like taylor so its kinda beleivable but if they keep the movie close to the book and dont change it to much like they did the first one then it is going to be great i hope they at least keep the scene where edward leaves her in the woods when he says he is leaving and its all emotional and sam finds her that gets me all choked up so i hope they get that scene right and when alice comes back and bella races to her and jumps kinda in her arms i want that scene to and when edward calls and says charlie went to a funeral hope they keep that to.

i for one, am really excited about all this change that was necessary. twilight could’ve been WAY better so glad they got rid of the director (i love catherine, she just shouldn’t have done twilight). ben barnes, i love him, he’ll be perfect as aro. more hottie! woooo! i was never too fond of taylor, he looked ridiculous. this copon guy doesn’t have me too convinced either but he’s an upgrade from lautner. and if u guys aren’t gonna go see it cause taylor’s not in it, guess you’re not true fans eh. i didn’t like twilight too much, but u can bet i’m gonna buy the movie anyways. we gotta support.

Even though I don’t mind re-casting Jacob, I am worried about Michael Copon being considered for the role. He comes off a little conceited and his acting isn’t too great either. I’ve always imagined Steven Strait as my Jacob, but to be honest, his acting is…mmmmk. haha. For all those people saying they won’t watch the movie because of the recasting, you know you’re going to be there for the midnight screening out of curiousity. mmhm.

    53. shineah Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 4:43 am

CALM DOWN. Seriously. Even Stephenie Meyer herself thought of two different actors for the Twilight and New Moon books. And to all of you who claim you are not going to watch New Moon because of this, WHATEVER. You know you are. And even if you aren’t, who cares, because honestly, a bigger and more mature Jacob Back will draw in a lot more new people into the movies (such as GUYS, who happen to love werewolves that actually look like werewolves).

Taylor Lautner was wonderful in Twilight, but I’m sorry to say, at least for women over 17, he can’t pull off the New Moon Jacob who is menacing and a WEREWOLF (not a puppy). Also, if you want men in the movies, you need to have werewolves that look menacing.

Can Michael Copon pull it off? Looking-wise, definitely. Acting-wise, I wouldn’t know, I’ve never watched any of his shows. And I don’t like his attitude about it all, either.

About Ben Barnes as Aro: I always pictured older guys, I’m not sure that somebody like Ben Barnes could be devilish enough. But, I’m sure Chris Weitz (who is a GREAT director, btw) knows his casting stuff. He is a man, after all, and he knows what works as scary.

So, to sum it up: I’m super excited about this movie! It’s going to be WONDERFUL.

I’m still digesting the whole Jacob thing…I always assumed that they would replace Jacob because he gets way older in the book. I do feel for Taylor though….I liked him alot as young Jacob.
I hope Summit keeps everyone else the same. Yes, the Cullens weren’t perfect but I liked them and hope to see them return. They never had much of a part in Twilight in my opinion. Changing them would just be weird.
I always pictured the Volturi as older people, definately not young Ben Barnes… I guess Summit wants to make it even more geared toward teens.

Oh, well, I am sure I will like it!

Here it says that Chris intends to keep all of the same actors/actress, but maybe it’s wrong:

I really hate Hollywood. This is how it rolls though. Just becuase you sign a contract doesn’t mean they’ll keep you on. I wouldn’t mind a different Jake, I just feel bad for Taylor. Nothing is for sure yet I guess…

If they replace Taylor it’s going to ruin the rest of the movies. People are already in love with Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. You can’t just replace one of the main characters in the movie and expect everyone to accept him that easily. Your dealing with emotions here. Who cares about the size of Jacob Black anyway. If he plays the part right the fans will be more than happy with New Moon with Taylor as Jacob. Have you seen Taylor in Shark Boy and Lava Girl? He can play the perfect moody Jacob Black. The attitude he plays as Shark Boy I can totally see in Jacob.

I like Taylor but the problem is that he doesn’t look old at all.Taylor was really great in Twilight but in New Moon I don’t see how he could manage to lift Kristen.

If they really want to replace Jacob I wish they would cast Steven Strait.I think he’s perfect for the role.

If taylor’s too young then how are they going to cast seth, he’s pretty important in eclispe, are they going to introduce him as a fourteen year old and then replace him with someone twenty nine

im actually glad they’re changing taylor…. in my opinion he just didn’t fit the role. Im not sure about this new guy since I have never seen any of his work but he fits visually. Although I remember a few months back watching on youtube a video of the quilete extras and I thought that the guy who’s last name was smoky-desesperado was the perfect Jacob

I really hope they don’t bring Michael Copon in as the “older” Jacob… he is yummy to look at though… hot dang is he hot! hehe..but Taylor IS Jacob..no if’s and’s or but’s about it.. He was already in Twilight…why not keep him on? He can buff it up..he’s in martial arts! Look at Tom Cruise…he’s a shorty.. [nothing against shorty's..i'm a shorty myself..] but they can add height to his shoes to make him tall… use the money that we as fans have paid to see Twilight to keep Taylor on and add onto his height..it’s not that difficult!
On other notes.. Ben Barnes? I think he’d be better off as Felix or Demitri… more so Demitri…not Aro… Hopefully things don’t change too much…

All this wouldn’t be a big deal if these were stand alone movies but in a series…it too much for a bulk of the fandom to swallow. There are ten named wolves are they all going to look like somebody’s daddy with seth, brady, and collin being teenagers are they going to be retreads too for failed d-movies

Steven Strait is my vote… the resemblance is there so i won’t doubt he’ll pull it off… Ben Barnes i can see that as Aro. When i read the books i imagined Aro, Casius, and Marcus as around the age of Carlisle.. So yeah i definitely see that.. And with Steven Strait… have any of you seen the Covenant??? The Pool Scene O.O??!!?? Ohhhh yeahhhh… ^_^

Also Steven Strait has enough experience i think with movies like this… in the Covenant the role he played Caleb Danvers.. basic warlock.. led a group called the Sons of Ipswitch… yeah Steven Strait can pull it off.. =)

PLEASE don’t replace Taylor!!!! Jacob is my favorite character and I DO NOT WANT to see some conceited bad actor try to be that character. Summit shouldnt have picked Taylor to be Jacob in the first place if they were just going to replace him. He IS Jacob now. Summit has extra cash because of the fan base, do whatever digital crap they need to to keep Taylor.

Ben seems a little young to be Aro. His hair and His facial features are how I pictured Aro but definately too gangly and young.

      But PLEASE keep Taylor!!!!

I will go see New Moon if Talor isn’t Jacob but I will not like it. :(

      Isn’t this just sad?
summit FINALLY has a success in movies, and they go blow it.
FIRST they fire the best director they have ever had.
SECOND they say they might get rid of taylor, which is dumbbb because MANY people are huge fans of taylor, and they WERE excited to see taylor step up to the role. now they say, oh well he isn’t good enough for the role. sorry summit that was one duumb stuppidd move.

      AND..
okay, many people are saying they won’t go see it if tayllor isn’t in it. and i agree i absolutly LOVE TAYLOR.! he is amazing. and i can tell you i have been so madd that he might not play jacob, i could (and have) screamed. but i think that most people are going to see it, DEFFINETLY not twice, and ABSOLUTELY not many times!! what is wrong with summit thinking they can go fire the (dare i say) heartthrob of the movie!!! and they want to do BETTER then twililght?? craazzyyyy.

and now Taylor isn’t being jacob?!?!
WTF!!!!KEEP THE ORIGINAL CAST!!!!!! people are gona look back in like 10 years and be like o wow its a different person for Jacob, i wonder why?
JUST KEEP THE ORIGINAL CAST!! we ALL would be sooooooooo much happier!

It astonishing that the native american characters have to be a certain way in the minds of a minority of the fandom, and the vampires can be casted with little regard with how they are in the books. None of this makes sense. All people are asking is to maintain the original cast in a saga

I hope they keep Taylor. He’s the only Jacob. This Michael guy surely does not have that beautiful smile that Taylor and Jacob have. He doesn’t even come close! It just won’t be the same without Taylor and I am sure I won’t be seeing this movie quite a much if he’s not Jacob. This is my favorite out of the series and I was looking so forward to seeing much more of Taylor as Jacob.
I did write a letter (a nice one) to Summit regarding the casting of Jacob. I figure if they get enough concern they may keep Taylor. I sure hope they don’t ruin my favorite book!!

    78. Laney Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

Ok so I think that Taylor is good, but not old enough to play jacob. He is too little and needs a couple years of growing. Copon is….umm intersting. There is something about him I really don’t like but I don’t know what that is.

Barnes for Aro is ok. I actually thought Barnes would’ve been cool for Jacob before they casted taylor as jacob in the first place.

So I say YES to Barnes for Aro and NO to Copon for jacob!! I can’t wait for this movie already!! :D

    79. Chloe Cullen Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Hmm.. I’m a little nervous about the new director, b/c The Golden Compass is the closest project of his to Twilight and I don’t think he did that great of a job on that..

And while I’m Team Edward, I don’t think they should replace Taylor as Jacob!! I think they should still look into the company that aged Brad Pitt for Benjamin Button.

Ben Barnes for Aro.. I like it aside from the fact that I just pictured Aro being.. older?? But that could definitely work.

      Can’t wait for New Moon!

Forgive me if I forget things wrongly.

In New Moon, Bella saw Jacob shot up before her eyes. She didn’t say Jacob looks older, just taller and more muscular.

Jacob will still be younger than Bella. How they ask a guy who is 26 years old to act as a teenager??

      Keep Taylor!

    81. jasperislove Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 11:01 pm

They need to keep Taylor. He was amazing as Jacob and replacing him is so wrong. It’s not fair and someone 26 would not work. He still looks young, he’s just tall. Taylor has already started beefing himself up for the role too. Not to mention I saw that Michael guy in a tv show and his acting is HORRIBLE.
