The Poll That Asks All The Questions

    By Twilight_News | December 16, 2008

Lots of different places like People magazine, ExtraTV, and countless other sites have up polls and petitions regarding the casting of Jacob Black, but it seems to us that they are missing the finer points of fan opinion because they haven’t read the books to totally understand why the recasting might be a conversation to begin with. MTV gets it because Larry Carrol has actually read the books, but doesn’t have a poll going.

So we give you our own poll which we think hits all the areas that are concerning the fans.

If they replace Taylor I will flat-out not see the film. Not that Summit cares, they’re only looking at $$$ and one viewer won’t break or bury them.

I understand where they’re coming from… Taylor can’t bulk up or grow fast enough, but at least he’s the right age of Jacob. What’s with Hollywood having 20-somethings playing teenagers? I don’t even like this Michael Copon guy’s acting…

But what I find particularly ironic is that they specifically hired people in their early twenties to play the younger Cullens so that they’d seem more realistic as teenagers… yet they’re going to hire a 26-year-old to play a 16-year-old? Give me a break. Yeah, Jacob looks much older and Bella remarks about it, but the truth is he’s 16 and he acts like he’s 16. Don’t tell me Copon can top Lautner in that aspect, because he CAN’T.

When I picture Jacob Black its always Taylor Lautner, no one can take his spot; who cares if he is 5′9″ and the character in the book should be 6′7″, Taylor Lautner is one of the main reasons why Twilight go so much money from the movie in the first place, his acting is fenominal and he deserves to be recast.

I love Taylor! He totally gets Jacob and he’s who I imagine as him in the books. He can totally bulk up, they can use effects, etc. Michael Copon is too old and not bulky either! He looks too happy and as if he can’t be a rough werewolf. Besides, if Summit thinks Taylor is too young, then why did they cast him in the first place?! If they do change him, Steven Strait would be better than Michael! TAYLOR ALL THE WAY!

Sorry to comment again, but do you know how much uproar there would be if they replaced Rob as Edward? It’s not fair!

I really do not see what the huge deal is. The kid is not fit for the part. Period.
Michael Copon is perfect for the part.
We saw all of 5 min of Lautner as Jacob… It’s not like they’re re casting Edward or Bella.
I think it’s a good move and I look forward to seeing who they end up picking if indeed there is a re cast.

hmmm…. i definitely see the reasons behind their decision. So!! I gotta say that Taylor playing the human rez kid is totally awesome. BUT! I can’t see him shooting up like that.. i’m mean sure they have special effects and everything but its going to look all distorted and fuzzy and stuff. So.. personally i’m all for the changing of actors. I’m sure there are actors that can do the whole 16 year old look and persona just as awesome. So my vote is for Steven Strait. He’s already had experience with the whole special effects deal from starring in the Covenant. He knows what its like. But i doubt he could be cast. I’m just throwing out the options of this decision. The good options, We can buck and cry about it for as long as we can but, come on people how many of you cried around when Robert Pattinson was cast? You just gotta look at the better side of this situation and hope that it’ll all come out for the best. anyways… my opinion.. doesn’t count for any of you.

    10. Kizmet Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

i am very seriously considering not seeing the movie if taylor isn’t in it. you can’t change actors between movies. i hate it when they do that. it’s really jarring and then the movies don’t for a cohesive series once their out on dvd and you want to watch them in a row.

and TAYLOR CAN DO THIS! a little working out, a little make up, some camera angles, and maybe a sprinkling of special effects and he’ll be fine.

this whole thing makes me so mad.

    11. jazjade Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

If everything in the next two movies gets boiled down to size, and it just becomes some poorly acted highly special-effects action flick, who wants that? That’s what replacing the fine actor Taylor Lautner with the cardboard cutout hunk of Michael Copon sounds like. Come on!!! Taylor is one of the best actors in Twilight, and portrays Jacob very, very well. This kind of decision makes me want to say something sexist about the new director, which might very well be un-called for, but, heck, Jacob is very important in the next parts of the story and we need him to be played by a strong actor.

    12. Mateja Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:13 pm

Keep Taylor Lautner! He is OUR Jacob Black!

    13. Kerri Says:

    14. Alice Cullen Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

I don’t really care much. I loved Taylor, but I also love Michael. And if they are going to be spending half their budget on just making Jacob (Taylor) look bigger, that wouldn’t be money well spent when they can get a really cute, bulkier actor to play the part. I mean, the money they would spend on making him appear bigger MIGHT KEEP them from having really good costumes, going to Italy, and having really good werewolf effects, all of which are VERY important. So Summit needs to do whatever they need to do to have money for more important criteria for the movie.

    15. aline Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

i vote for steven strait….he would be the best Jacob ever!

    16. soozabooza54 Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:30 pm

Glad to see a majority of us agree - Taylor is OUR Jacob. He’s perfect. Yes, he may not be ungodly tall, but Rob’s chest isn’t perfect, Ashley isn’t 4′9″, and Michael Copon is no closer to being 1)Native American or 2)6′7″ than Taylor is. Are we really saying that the difference is going to come down to 5 inches? Seriously?

Summit - you’re on thin ice here. You know that as a fan base, we’re capable of making you tons of money. You’ve seen it. And as a poster said above, one, or two, or even a hundred of us not seeing the movie isn’t really going to make a difference to your receipts. But do the right thing here. Jacob is Bella’s comforter, her home. That’s Taylor. Don’t take him away!

    17. Alice Cullen Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

Go Steven Strait. He should be Jacob.

    18. Alice Cullen Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Yeah BUT I would rather see an amazingly well done movie with MUCH BETTER effects than Twilight with amazing costumes, a gorgeous setting in Italy, and great werewolf stuff. BUT we probably won’t be able to see that with Taylor Lautner. It’s not just the height that is the issue. They also have to make him much bulkier. I don’t know about you all, but I think that replacing Taylor with a bigger, bulkier, more muscular actor would be better for New Moon. I WANT BETTER EFFECTS, AND FOR THE ACTORS TO GO TO ITALY!!!

    19. Nadia Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:35 pm

i dont really care who plays jacob, but i think they should have the same jacob throughout the whole series or else its gonna look really weird
so i guess i’m saying they should keep him

    20. Alice Cullen Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

And Steven Strait and Michael Copon may not be 6′7″, but at least they are tall enough to actually be able to look at Edward (Rob) straight on.

    21. Lauren's Bite Says:

    22. MagicWings Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:44 pm

It’s not a huge deal to me who plays Jacob, but I think Taylor Lautner would be fine as Jacob. It won’t be a big deal to me, either way.

Jacob isn’t my favorite character, either. Had to re-read the series to even start to like him, and Taylor made me like Jacob even more. Still Team Edward, though.

I don’t think Taylor is that amazing an actor (none of them are, really… or maybe it was the directing?), but I think he’s already accepted as Jacob… well, I don’t mind either way…

      I mostly care that the plot stays as true to the book as possible and there are no more super cheesy scenes like Bella walking in front of the fan with that DUN DUN DUN music… X.x;

    23. Zoey Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:50 pm

I have sooo much to say regarding the new decisions for New Moon… *breathes* I was taught that what starts out as a mess, ends up a bigger mess, so Ill just say this; Summit has been making questionable decisions since their pockets got full of cash from Twilight. They only raised the budget by 13 mil…and THAT my friends is why they want to cast Michael Copon as Jacob…because such a pathetic budget will not allow them to fly to Italy for a full scene shoot, give us some kick-ass werewolves AND use the same effects as “The Mysterious Case of Bejamin Button” (which have been used as examples to justify the Jacob transformation) to enhance Taylors buffness and height. On another note, no GOOD movie franchises change their leading cast members once theyve been established in a first installment…if they had chosen Michael Copon to play Jake from the beginning…then yeah, no one would mind…but they chose Taylor, that was their decision and they should stick with it cause its too late to go back. Besides Taylor is a great actor as Jacob…why go ruin an already good thing? But who are we the fans right?…our opinion isnt worth much to huge movie industries, even if we do make them rich

    24. Anomoyus Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:51 pm

      okay.
i understand the issue of taylor, and they would have to make him bigger for the part, and some fans would rather have specail effects, and outfits, and scenery, and i like that idea. but for one thing, you don’t need to bulk him up with special effects! didn’t you hear from mtv? he is going to the gym, thats a ton good enough!!
plus, i don’t think it matters how much ya spend on the movie, they don’t want to hire lautner back because it will be to expensive, but in the long run it will cost them money!! not as many people will c the movie.

    25. bob Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

everyone who says they won’t see the movie is full of it. you know you’ll see it no matter what. and they know you’ll see it no matter what. so really, this isn’t even an issue. can’t we find something else to talk about?

    26. Potch Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 6:56 pm

Taylor was a bad choice from the beginning. He’s just way too small and if they try to make him big using special effects, it will be cheesy. But, PLEASE no Michael Copon. He’s a terrible terrible actor.

    27. twilightgrrl Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

If they can make the height changes in Lord of The Rings, then I’m sure Summit should be able to do it for New Moon. We’ve already given you the money thanks to Twilight’s success. I VOTE FOR TAYLOR!!!!!!!! (Just beware the fans, Weitz.)

    28. Sam Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

The fact that Taylor can’t play Jacob doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that he’s not big and buff. It’s the fact that this guy has to basically CARRY New Moon. He can’t. He just isn’t that good an actor.

    29. Dylan Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Taylor deserves it! He was cast, they canb’t just take that back now, he IS Jacob, and if they recast him I’m going to be so dissapointed. Talor should have the chance to get into his charicter, because I know acting wise he’s going to be great, and I think Kristen and him already had the fireworks going in Twilight!

    30. Thorn Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

TAYLOR!!!!!!! I used to think he was too tiny for Jacob, but it’s his personality! He just shines and smiles like Jacob does! I really hope they get enough funds and do some CGI or something… I mean, hell, Tom Cruise stood on a platform like the whole Interview With the Vampire because he was so short, so can Taylor!!

      December 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Alright, I am a Jacob fan, but seriously, attempt to imagine Taylor Lautner as a big buff guy. Personally, I can’t see that. I mean, Taylor is a cool guy, I just don’t know if I can see him as the werewolf.
Personally, I am someone who would kill to have Steven Strait play Jacob(just kidding….but I do want Steven Strait to play him…I mean…come on…he was perfect….)
But Michael Copon is pretty dang close to Steven, so I say Michael should play werewolf.

OK GUYS. MAYBE WOULD SHOULD JUST ACCEPT THAT THEY’RE GOING TO REPLACE TAYLOR AND START MAKING SUGGESTIONS ON WHO WE THINK SHOULD PLAY JACOB. STEVEN STRAIT GETS MY VOTE. HE’D BE WAY BETTER THAN MICHAEL COPON.

    36. songster Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Taylor seems like a nice kid, but I don’t see him as the Jacob Black who is big and looks more like 25. I also don’t see him as competition for Edward, he just looks too young. Either Steven Strait or Michael Copon look enough like Taylor to fit the part as the older more grownup looking Jacob. For me it is not so much Taylor’s size as he just looks too young. I thought that casting decision was strange considering I was under the impression they were looking to film more then just Twilight so I would have thought they would have cast these parts with the big picture in mind.

    37. Lyle Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:33 pm

However sad I feel for Taylor….I trust the film maker to pick the right Jacob for us and they must have reason to do this. After all, the went all the way to England to find our PERFECT Edward for us against our “judgement”. With that said, STEVEN STRAIT was my first pick for Edward. He’s got a smile that can be comparable to RPatz. So…I can udnerstand that “Bella” would settle for him if Edward wasn’t around.

    38. Lyle Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:36 pm

      December 16th, 2008 at 7:41 pm

I am starting to get so sick of this being a topic mostly because most of the Taylor fans wont compromise or listen to reason. I just dont get why they think Taylor could wtill be perfect for the role when it is a fact that the jacob in n.m looks 25(if you dont believe me.open eclipse and read pg 120. Jacob tells bella what he went throgu in n.m) I UNDERSTAND that you love Taylor but you guys are willing to set aside that he does have a DRASTIC change wich is not only IMPORTANT (even if you dont think so), to Jacob BUT to the WHOLE pack as well.
Plus the change is SO dramatic whe Bella sees him again she harldy recognizes him. thats ONE reason why I think it could work to re-cast jacob.
I think they whoudl keep taylor until that m8ight when Bella. jacob and mike all go to the movie..THEN the next time Bella sees Jacob after his change they add the new guy. It would make less sense to me if they did NOT do this. That is the way the story goes and it wont feel like the same story if they dont make Jacobs look More Dramatic.
I think we should give the next guy a chance.

    41. baoweolf Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

okay have yall even seen Michael Copon?? I think he will give Rob a run for his money. Which may be the angle Summit wants to go. I mean think about it… Two, I mean Two good looking guys on screen fighting for the love of one girl. Tough decision. You kinda want Jacob Black to end up with Bella yet at the same time you want her with Edward to. The tension between the two gorgeous actors may give the audience the attraction it needs. All i can say is i think you will have a winner either way you go but my-o-my Michael…. he’s a cutty. Micheal’s look plus Jacob’s charisma - tough decision. You would totally be rooting for the underdog even though you know the outcome. Again, this just may the angle Summit is looking for. Making the teenage girls fall for both EC and JB through Rob and Michael. Just my opinion but it’s definetly a good angle.

    44. isa Says:

abd vtw, Stephenie Meyer herself never considered the same actor for both Twilight and New Moon. She suggested STEVEN STRAIT. Who is my Jacob Black adn always will be. They should cast HIM! My 2nd choice: Michael Copon (if he can act). Taylor Lautner definitely needs to go, he is no werewolf and no rival to Edward. That’s a fact.

    45. JodeenSings Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Thanks for the poll and letting the fans speak. I vote Taylor all the way. I don’t understand why people are saying they have to go with a taller actor to save money. No extra special effects are needed - camera angles, forced perspective. etc. - will accomplish these things. I feel that changing actors will give this saga a low budget soap opera feel and that would ruin it for me. GO TAYLOR!

One MORE THING.. I am so sick of people saying that this Michael guy is to old for the part. I mean I am not sure what to think about him yet either, BUT he is 26 in real life,Jacob is supposed to look 25 AND to make my point… ROB is 22 in real life and he played a 17 year old. So stop saying that this Michael guy is to old.
      pg 120.Eclipse.
Jacob sais “Look at me Bells,Do I LOOK 16?
      Bella sais “Not exactly.”
Jacob sais “NOT AT ALL. BECAUSE WE REACH FULL GROWTH INSIDE OF A FEW SHORT MONTHS WHEN THE WERWOLF GENE GETS TRIGGERED.(wich OBVIOUSLY happend in N.M)IT’S ONE HELL OF A GROWTH SPURT.” He made a face.”PHYSICALLY,I’M, PROBABLY 25 OR SOMETHING.”
SEE.. It is all right there. I DO like Taylor,BUT he cant pull off 25 AND I dont want them to spend SO MUCH MONEY on the changes they would have to do, to do so. If the HAVE EVERYTHING so much about Taylors appearance to MAKE him look MORE the part of Older Jacob in N.M then it wont really even feel like tis Talyor playing the role anymore to me so why not just get someone that looks more the part.
Then there are the ones that say well He doesnt HAVE to be EXACTLY 6′7′.. and I agree BUT they would still have to make his facial features loo older so then why not just get somwone who looks more the part?
I KNOW ALOT of you say that Jacob is a main character..BUT he really wasnt for Twilight. That was Edward and Bellas story. N.M is where Jacob is the main character.
I dont get why people dont see this as a fact caust that really is the way it is.

How else - have the two leading guys be irresistable! Can we say Cha-ching!

Why does it have Michael Copon listed as one of those choices? Was he cast or is he just being considered?

      Poor Taylor.
I was so mad when I found out he was playing Jake, and he did alright in Twilight. It’s just that he seemed so excited about doing New Moon and he said he was already hitting the weight room and stuff.
      Poor kid.

If they do replace him, it better be with someone amazing.

(and for the people saying Steven Strait- that would be just too dramatic a change, even if the wolf is supposed to be dramatic. First of all, Taylor looks nothing like Steven, and second, Steven just looks way too old. He was my dream Jacob, but unfortunately it won’t happen)

COME ON… I mean,YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO BASE HOW GOOD N.M WILL BE SOLEY ALL ON TAYLOR?
I dont know about you but I love the Twilight Series adn the WHOLE story of it MORE than i do Taylor and I want to see EVERYONES performance that will be involved in it. I think you guys should really reconsider cause you will be missing out. PLUS then they may not make enough money to do Eclipse then and I want to see the fight between Edward and Victoria SOOOOO bad. Please dont ruin it for the rest of us cause you are crying over Jacob.
Lets not do what some people did when they found out Rob was cast BEFORE he proved how PERFECT
he was for the role of Edward. YOU guyse NEVER know!MAYBE the next guy up for Jacob will be AMAZING! PLUS STEPHENIE IS INVOLVED IN N.M AND GIVING HER OPINIONS. I TRUST HER,DON’T YOU?

I think Taylor Lautner DEFINITELY should continue the role of Jacob. It’s not like it’s hard to make someone look shorter or taller in a movie. Or bigger or smaller. Just look at Elf and Lord of the Rings.

I think they want to replace him just to get a more “beautiful” guy in the part, thus (maybe) getting more people to see the movie. Not cool!

I didn’t like Taylor, initially when Twilight was cast. But I felt that way about most of the cast at first, and after the movie I really liked him. They can’t just replace him! =/
I hate when they change the casting of sequel movies. It’s somewhat confusing, and irritating. Plus Taylor is a good actor. I think that if they tried, Summit could find a way to make him look the part. Everyone’s this upset about it now, and if they actually do replace him, it’ll just get worse. I hope Summit gets smart and realizes that.

Okay look…i know its tacky to change actors after the series has already started but come on. Taylor did a great job as jacob in twilight, but there is no possible way that he could portray jacob the way he needs to be for new moon and especially eclipse. just think about bella(stewart) falling in love with the lautner jacob…its so not possible. the chemistry is not there at all!! they need someone new. someone that can really make bella feel like something is so incredibly wrong and come to the realization that sje loves jacob too. okay. thats all i have to say. :)

Michael Cupon appears to be the average teen actor. Despite being viewed as a teen movie, Twilight has more depth, more character than that. While I’m not a huge fan of Taylor in the role of Jacob, I do believe he can more accurately portray the character as opposed to Michael. If a replacement for Jacob is needed, I would advise the director and producers to do more research outside of hollywood. Independent actors, such as Kristen and Robert, have greatly contibuted to the soulfullness of Twilight.

    68. Delacy Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

I see no reason for Taylor Lautner to be replaced as Jacob…the physical changes that Jacob and the rest of the pack go through have no effect on the plot of the story whatsoever. Taylor has the personality and looks down pat. As long as he’s working out, those physical changes should be enough. We will see the changes because Jacob doesn’t wear a shirt for most of New Moon…I’m rereading New Moon right now, and the first time Bella sees him after he’s become a werewolf, the changes in his personality are what matters to her:
“But the physical changes were insignificant. It was his expression that made him almost completely unrecognizable. The open, friendly smile was gone like the hair, the warmth in his dark eyes altered to a brooding resentment that was instantly disturbing. There was a darkness in Jacob now. Like my sun had imploded.”
      N.M. pg. 262
Taylor can pull off Jacob’s personality, we’ve already seen that. A 16-year-old should play a 16-year-old, not a 26-year-old. Give Taylor a chance.

Delacy is right. Bella is less occupied with the physical change than the personality transplant. Taylor started the movies, and signed a contract stating his return. If Summit is going to stab him in the back like that, I will not pay for a New Moon ticket. And if they do decide to replace Taylor, it should be Steven Straight. He has the looks and the charm that Taylor does, he’s just bigger. My vote is for TEAM TAYLOR!!!

    72. Rachel Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:08 pm

I dont really care who they choose. Taylor is definately too small to pull off the Jacob that is described, but he seems likeable in real life so I would feel sorry for him if he didnt get the part. On the other hand, as other people have stated, he was only in Twilight for a whole 5 minutes…so it’s not like its a huge deal if they replace him or not. Jacob is supposed to be native american and both boys that are up for his role look like they are mexican, so we are obviously not going for total accuracy.

Now lets talk about who can replace Kristen Stewart. Qualifications: must be able to show emotion, must be able to close mouth, must be able to comb hair before a red carpet appearance. This shouldnt be too hard right? We need a new Bella!!!!

    73. wolfgirl Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

    74. Chandler Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:11 pm

What does it matter if Taylor’s not 6′7″? I’ve seen Copon’s acting - he’s okay, but not up to par with Taylor whatsoever. Who cares if Taylor’s not as enormous as the book describes him? Barely anyone in the world is that tall, much less a Native American teenaged actor. It’s not fair that Taylor was cast as Jacob for Twilight and might be getting replaced for New Moon… He’s tall enough. And height is the LAST thing I think of when I think of Jacob. Isn’t the actor’s ABILITIES to portray the character much more important than whether or not he’s freakishly tall? You can tell how excited Taylor is about playing this part EVERY TIME he does an interview - it’s so inconsiderate to even think about taking that away from him. Twilight fans, for the most part, already adore Taylor as Jacob. Why does this need to be changed?

I would also like to point out that if Rob were the one they were trying to replace, people would riot. How is that fair? Jacob is a principle character who was perfectly cast - why does Summit feel the need to fix what isn’t broken?

    75. Mrs. Kerr Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:13 pm

They should NOT replace Taylor with another actor.
I understand it may be better because of the way Jacob must look physically, but seriously? That’s only ONE good reason. I can come up with more reasons as to why he shouldn’t be replaced:
First of all, because it’s already a mistake if you replace an actor especially if he/she is one of the main characters.
We’ve already associated Taylor Lautner with Jacob Black. His appearance, his voice, everything. Just like when we see Robert’s face we think of Edward; we see Jacob when we see Taylor’s face.
Second, it would be better to keep an actor who can portray Jacob and has done research on his role, rather than a stranger who just looks the part because he has muscles or whatnot.
Third, because the fandom has already fallen for Taylor. His smile, his voice, and his talent have won our hearts if not convinced us in Twilight. (Well, most of us.) People want Taylor!
Fourth, because it’s not fair for Taylor. He’s been so involved with our Twilight universe, and we appreciate that. You can tell that the fans love Taylor when he’s out there along with Kristen and Robert and the rest of the cast.
And lastly, Summit Entertainment should listen to their consumers if they want to keep this business strong. If they replace Taylor, there will be plenty of angry fans. They may lose money and people may boycott the movie. Besides, cast changes transform the outlook of series, as has been seen before in other movies for the worse.*

He is Jacob to me… he has the chops to pull off the part both in the look and the personality of the character… I would be absolutly heartbroken if they recast.

Enamorada got it right! If all of us, as fans, want a true depiction of the book then Summit will have to get an actor who actually looks like a 25 year old. As a suggestion, I believe the only person who is beyond perfect for this role is Steven Strait for several reasons. One, he is the proper age. Two, he has experience with special effects (see Covenant). Three, he has the ability to be charming and funny (see Sky High). He seems to be the right choice and I hope Summit can get to him.

    79. Riley Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

I don’t see what the big deal is over Taylor’s appearance.I’d much rather have someone short who is also talented and dedicated to Twilight play Jacob, than someone tall who will completely screw up the role. Taylor fits the role in personality and warmth perfectly. Please don’t recast him!

Does this mean that in the Breaking Dawn movie, Bella will be recast? Because she drastically changes appearance too… all I’m saying is that appearance isn’t as important to me in a character as the way that actor portrays that role. Don’t get rid of Taylor!

    80. Marie Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:35 pm

I think fans need to make a choice, not that it will really matter either way, because I doubt we can really affect their casting choice. But what I mean is, I think the choice is to either keep Taylor, or to be faithful to the book. (Unless they keep Taylor and find a way to buff him up and make him look 25 by the time they do Eclipse. It’s possible, but Summit is cheap and I guess they can’t do it.) Personally, I want Taylor to stay, but if he does, it probably means that he won’t look like what Bella describes in New Moon.
      Summit, please keep Taylor!

    81. Jaci Says:
      December 16th, 2008 at 10:48 pm

Summit knew how big Taylor was when they casted him at first, they should stick to their decision. Taylor is amazing and perfect for the part of Jacob. No way can someone 26 act like a teenager, its just not realistic.

I may not be Team Jacob or whatever, but I hate changes to the cast members in the middle of a series. It’s like changing the actor for Edward, or maybe some other Cullen.

Keep Taylor as Jacob simply for the fact he was the person acting as Jacob in Twilight movie.

I personally think that they keep Taylor in New Moon until he turns into the werewolf where he looks older and is way taller. It makes sense and saves them money for the special effects they would have to use to make him look older. Michael Copon does look similar to Taylor(who’s absolutely gorgeous), just older. While I would love to have Taylor Lautner be Jacob because I think he did excellent as Jacob in Twilight (even though he wasn’t in the movie much) and I don’t want them to change actors in the middle of the franchise, I can see why they would change actors for Jacob’s role and I will understand. As long as New Moon is true to the book and they don’t turn the movie into total crap, I’m fine. I realize that sacrifices do have to be made for the sake of the movie.

Talyor WONT LOOK 25 and I dont think he should still look 16. I like Taylor too but i Dont think he is right for the Older Jacob. You guys are willing to overlook the how the story describes him because you like Taylor. I know they make ALot of changes…for example Emmet didnt have curly brown hair. Nikki had to dye her hair,Kristens eyes arent really brown..I am FINE with that. Its just that Jacobs transformation IS important NOT ONLY to Jacob but it also affected ALL the Quiluetes and they ALL went through it.
I dont get why people dont understand this. It IS a MAJPR part of the Pack regardless if you want to believe it or not. MORE than the other minor changes. Dont compare them.

PLUS Stephenie is going to be ivolved. Dont you trust her?
AND the comment with Kristen and saying that they would have to change her for Breaking Dawn is Hardly the same. Taylor Lautner should be Jacob Black in all of the Twilight series movies. It’s the way it should be and it’s the ONLY way it should be. Replacing him would just cause too much outrage from the loyal fans of the franchise and disappoint millions of girls who’s already grown to love Taylor.

Even if Taylor and Kristen only had a few scenes in Twilight, they had amazing chemistry! Which is what New Moon needs because Bella must find comfort in Jacob when Edward decides to leave. Michael Copon just doesn’t seem to have a lot of potential to continue the role of Jacob Black, a very prominent role for the future films.

I don’t agree that they would need to change Kristen Stewart as Bella if they do Breaking Dawn. Her change is not as drastic. To be honest, I’m a little confused on how she even looks too different after her transformation, besides the eyes and skin. To me, that doesn’t compare to Jacob’s change. But still… keep Taylor. I can’t picture Jacob any other way.

      This makes me so mad!

    105. Ephrain Says:
      December 17th, 2008 at 12:25 am

It has been proven that when a main character is recasted in a series the movies and the franchise crash and burn, the Dark Knight is a good example because the character was killed off anyway and plus richard harris died when portraying dumbledore and people have been critical of gambon’s portrayal for years, but of course HP has continuity with its main charaters. This isn’t rocket science…keep the original cast, it’s not going to kill the plot, the outcome will still be the same.

I think that is AWESOME! She did read Twilight before she made the movie and I am SURE she will be readin N.M next. I bet she has already started.
I think Kristen did AMAZING as the role for Bella. Not enough Emotion? what do you want her all hyper active and constanly groveling over Edward? PLUS..ITS FUNNY cause i saw an interview with Stephenie Meyer where she said the Kristens voice is how she imagined it in her head.
My husband even said that he thought Rob was really good as Edward but then said that he thought Kristen did better as Bella though! OH and he said Taylor needs to go.

The character of Jacob will have to undergo a great deal of CGI anyway no matter who plays him, so they might as well keep him and “grow” him using CGI. Taylor did a great job playing Jacob and you really sensed the chemistry between him and Kristen Stewart. Don’t mess with that, Summit!

IF Taylor really WAS PERFECT for the role of older Jacob in N.M then they wouldnt be trying to think of all these ways to CHANGE his look for the part.
      THAT is not rocket science.
To me I will be more bummed if Jacob doesnt have somewhat of fairly dramatic change. Mayne Taylor could pull it off. I dont know,I think I would have to wait for the actual movie to see. If he ould that would be pretty cool. But if it is NOT beleivable and he just ends up looking like a 16 year old that pumped up ALOT over the summer, I will be pissed. I just want him to look quite a bit larger that Edward, and at least 22 or somthing. I can lice withough him being 6′7..I just wish his facial featurs could look a bit older. I Wish Taylor could age faster darnit. But i dont think he could look old enough even 3 years from now and would rather them spend the money elswhere Like the wolves transformation and not Taylors to make him look older and somewhat taller.UGH I dont know. If they have to choose a new Jacob He better Be GOOD though. But I will wait and judge after i see abit of what they decide to do.

    111. Heart Song Says:
      December 17th, 2008 at 1:31 am

The likelihood of finding an actor who is 6′5″ and can portray Jacob is not not very high. There just aren’t that many men who are that tall to begin with. A compromise will be made regardless of who is cast.
      KEEP TAYLOR, HE WAS GREAT.
If they can make grown men look like hobbits and dwarves, surely they can make Taylor appear taller if they want to. Frankly, I don’t see the height thing to be that critical to the story given the other changes that are sure to occur as the story is adapted for the big screen. Maintaining the integrity of the character is FAR more important.

Once again, Taylor was in Twilight for FIVE minutes, he was a far cry from a “main character” as so many of you are referring to him. If he is recast I honestly do not think it will hurt NM at all. If you are worried about something that ruined the Twilight movies, blame it on Catherine and Melissa. I still can’t believe how horrible the movie was. New Moon can only be better.

Yeah, Kristen should show some emotion. You can never tell if she is happy, sad, confused, in love…she is the same in EVERY scene. Why did Catherine have to cast her?!?! She will need a lot more than makeup and contacts in BD. And I think it is LAME-O that she didnt read all of the books. Lame and lazy.

When they advertised for an actor to play Jacob, they said he needed to be open for sequels. Taylor Lautner took this role in good faith. To suddenly deny him the opportunity is not only a decision, it is a break of faith, with Taylor Lautner /and/ with the fans.

Taylor is freaking awesome as Jacob… I started reading the books once I found out about the movie, but all I knew was that Rob was playing Edward. As I was reading I looked at my boyfriend and was like you know who would play a good Jacob and he looked at me like I had five heads and I said this kid Taylor Lautner… he had no idea who I was talking about… I had a niece and nephew who love Sharkboy and Lavagirl so I read about Jake and was like it should so be him… I’ll be frustrated with Summit if they get a new Jake, but I won’t be mad enough to not go see the movie

Jacob almost becomes a completely different person from Twilight to New Moon/Eclipse (this is either mentione din the books or by S.Meyer herself at some point), even Bella says he looks to be about 25yrs….Taylor is cute and sweet and did a fine job for the 5 minutes he was in Twilight but Jacob needs to be tall & strong and well~definitely not cute little Taylor. I know people get annoyed at 20-something actors playing teens but in this case, the teen is said to look like a 20-something…so it fits.

Okay I am in no way shape or form a jacob lover, I mean he is damn annoying to me in the books, however Taylor made me like Jacob and even have a soft spot. Just from the little bit he was in the film. He and Kristen have a natural chemistry that portrays life long friends. She in comfy around him and it shows on screen which is how Bella is as well.

Plus I mean damn who hates a cast change mid series c’mon Summit. Michael Gambon anyone (not that they could help that one) I think it goes to show yet again that Summit thinks they can do anything slap Twilight on it and we will see it.

there are ways around taylor’s size not to mention that they didn’t do everything by the “book” for th efirst one so who cares if he isn’t 7 feet tall looking like Lou Foregno in the Hulk.

But they dont want to let go of that prescious money…

I am all with keep Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. He should finish what he started. I personally, don’t even know this Michael Copon, though he just isn’t right. There is something about him that is not Jacob-like. Taylor embodies Jacob in all aspects of his personality. Taylor was approved by Stephenie Meyer isn’t that enough? I mean she is the author of the saga. Her word should matter most of all. She was ok with having Taylor Lautner be her Jacob Black. So, I seriously just want no actor changes. Just keep them how they were started, no switching. Jacob is vital in New Moon and if they get a bad actor to play him, many fans will be completely dissappointed. So, keep it easy and just keep Taylor Lautner has the Jacob Black we all have come to know and love. It is that simple, and think in later years, Taylor will be older and bigger. For now, is it that hard to just CGI him bigger, I mean New Moon is getting a way bigger budget than Twilight. Again, Keep Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black.

    133. Chiara Says:
      December 17th, 2008 at 9:48 am

Okay, I can definitely understand why people are so passionate about Taylor portraying Jacob in Twilight and continuing to do so in New Moon. Even though I’m hardcore Team Edward/hardcore constantly drooling over the deliciousness that is Robert Pattinson, I really did enjoy Taylor’s performance in Twilight, and thought that he made a good Jacob. Having said that, I think the fact that Summit/Chris Weitz are considering re-casting his role goes beyond special effects and the question of whether or not they can get Taylor looking like the beefed up post-phased Jacob in New Moon. We have to keep in mind that Taylor *is* young, a truth which can be altered on screen using CGI, but a truth that *can’t* be altered in terms of child labor laws. He’s not 18 yet, and given the production schedule and the fact that the release of New Moon is set for a date less than a year away, there is most likely a serious issue given that he will not be permitted to work over a certain number of hours per day. This wasn’t much of an issue when it came to Twilight, because he was only in a few scenes. But he’s a MAJOR character in New Moon, and would obviously be required in a significant number of scenes, so his being underage may be a bit of a problem when it comes to making this movie. I know Kristen was underage when the filming of Twilight began – I think she turned 18 either during the filming process, or shortly after. But regardless, Taylor’s age is something that should be kept in mind as a possible reason for Jacob’s role receiving a new actor. The age thing aside, Jacob must look drastically different in New Moon than he did in Twilight — if the movie is going to stay true to the book. He goes from looking like a gangly 16-year old to looking like an enormous 25 year-old mid-story. While it is certainly possible to make an actor look older or more muscular using CGI and special effects, those types of techniques are very expensive, and with the budget Summit has allotted for New Moon, this may not be money that they have to spend. So to sum up after this post that has grown way longer than I intended: I think it will be a bit disappointing for Taylor to go, but logistically, I do not think it’s plausible for him to continue as Jacob in New Moon because of his age, the budget, and the story itself.

Finally SOME of you agree that Taylor just won’t work.I have a feeling that if Taylor all the sudden woke up and had Blonde haire and blue eyes that you guyse would STILL think he was perfect for the role just because you have gotten SO into the idea that Taylor is the only one talented enough to do it. He isnt the ONLY guy in the wold that could pull it off and Yes it does suck when actors get changed in some series..BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT because Jacobs change IS so Drastic that he IS hardly UNRECOGNIZABLE and thats why I think it would work.
I have a feeling that MOST of the people that arent willing to accept anyone but Taylor for Jacob are girls 16 and under. I said Most..not all.

What does the wolves looking older have to do with The vampires? NOTHING,Thats just the way it is in the story.THEY ARE DIFFERENT for reasons. They are completly different species and have completely differnt thngs about eachother. Thats why the wovle should look older because that is how they are said to look in the book. and they wouldnt HAVE to really change Sam. He already looks older.

It Is SUPPOSED to be confusing. That is how it is to Bella up UNTIL Jacob sneaks through her window and tries to have her guess what is going on and she remembers in her dream. I remember a Part when Charlie tells Bella he even saw Jacob in forn tof the store taliking with friends and sais how Different he looked.
You guys want to stay true to the story but are willing to put aside ALL the IMPORTANT changes that the wolves go through so you can keep Taylor. There are other gouys out there with talent adn Jacob was NOT a mian character in Twiligh so STOP trying to pull it off that way. That was Edward and Bellas story. N.M is mostly about Jacob,so why not start fresh?
I think they should have Taylor till the night Jacob ,Bella ,Mike go to the movie..ALOT happens until that night! BUT then..after those few weeks when Jacob is trying to stay away and Bella goes to his house on the “rescue mission” haha, then they should bring in the a new guy! I honestly will find it unsettling and almost perverted to see a 27yr old falling for an 18 year old. Its a little disturbing if you ask me. At least Taylor is closer to Kristen’s age group and I personally think he did a terrific job of capturing the essence of Jacob in the movie.

Summit are stupid for even considering replacing Taylor. Obviously their prime concern is money - so if they had any brains they would not get rid of an actor with a HUGE fanbase!
Also since apparentely they are having a hard time finding native american actors to play the rest of the cast, why would theY replace a perfectly good leading star, they’re only making it harder for themselves & if Taylor is too small to play Jacob why aren’t they finding replacements for the guy who plays embry, he looks about the same age and height as Taylor which means they would have to replace him as well since he too turns into a werewolf - basically they should save themselves all the trouble of replacing perfectly good actors, take their fingers outta their arses stop being cheapskates and use special effects - DON’T REPLACE ANYONE.

yeah summit why don’t u spend millions on trying to get ONE actor to look older and bigger and just cut out the rest of the movie…… do u guys even hear yourselves? taylor looks like he’s 14, u mean to tell me theres gonna be competion between him and Edward(Rob)…. can u imagine taylor seeming menacing towards the guy and girl who play laurent and victoria? im sorry for everyone who likes him, but taylor was never my jacob… not even close. and I agree that the ppl who want to keep taylor are mostly under 16, bc all of my friends and I are relieved to know he might be replaced.

      Alanna…
They arent thinkig of replacing Taylor with that guy form Narnia. you read it wrong. The guy from Narnia is one of the guys they are maybe considering for the part of ARO,NOT Taylor.

tnmebd..I agree with you too. But some people are blind about the istuation no matter what.
I agree. I cant see Taylor coming up agianst Edward without it being laughable OR up agaisnt Victoria for that matter all the times him and his back run her off. ALL I DO IS PICTURE THEM SAYING.DOWN PUP.hahahah

I hope Stephenie eventually puts somthng out about saying she thinks its good that the taylor fans are so passionate but they should move on and enjoy the movie if someone else is chosen and that she accepts it.
I KNOW it has been put out that Stephanie will be involved with the movie and I HONESTLY cant see her letting it slide and NOT say anything of she doesnt think that the WHOEVER they have play the role of Jacob is not beleivable. After all she did push for Emmet to play that part.If whe doesnt think Taylor can pull off older Jacob,I think she will say so.I trust HER judgment..she wrote the book after all.

It’s funny about the rumors now going around about how ROB might be replacing someone in the next Pirates of the Carribean movie and play jack Sparrow’s brother and almost EVERYONE is SO excited about it,All for it and hopeful that its true…BUT people are FREAKING out about Jacob being replaced. AND dont say it is hardly the same thing cause it is STILL a replacement.

I see what you are saying “Enamorada” and “Replacement”
MOST of the Bickering has been that they dont want to replace Taylor and ONE big reason i have read OVER and OVER agian is cause it would look weird cause it’s a SERIES. Pirates of the Carrabean is pretty much a SERIES too..BUT People are ALL for it if ROB replaces someone in it? I mean I am too BUT I never had a problem with Jacob being Replaced and Taylor fans are all more than FREAKING out if Jacob gets replaced cause it is a SERIES. hmmmmm Hypocritical much?

That is an interesting analogy, but Bloom and Knightley don’t want to do another Pirates movie, JD will probably return as Jack Sparrow

If taylor can rally this many people…they would be smart to keep him, all the opinion polls, blogs, forums, etc. don’t want taylor replaced, it would be great marketing and money making for summit to showcase this energy that surrounds him, if he and rob can sell the movie then that’s all that matters because that’s what people are going to see the movies for

DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVE TAYLOR LETNER BUT IN THE BOOKS JACOB MIGHT BE 15 BUT HAS GROWN TO BECOME AND LOOK LIKE A +25 YEAR OLD.IF YOU DONT REMEMBER!!

SO TO REPLACE HIM ACTUALLY MAKES SENCE ..BECAUSE IN THE FIRST ONE HES SUPPOSED TO LOOK JUST LIKE A TEENAGER AND THEN IN NEW MOON HE STARTS TO GROW AND BECOME A WEREWOLF WHO DOESNT AGE..WHO STAYS ”OLDER!!” BUT IS SUPPOSED TO ONLY BE 15.

ok…. so all this TAYLOR is our Jacob is just retarded! yes Taylor was a great Jacob in Twilight but for New Moon and all the other movies hes not right at all hes short and not buff enough for the older Jacob! I THINK STEVEN STRAIT would be a PERFECT Jacob!!!!!!!!

As much as i hate changing actors between movies, this time i think they should. I mean, how can it be New Moon without the jacob we have all come to imagine in our heads. And don’t start saying “but he looks different to everyone” because it says clearly in the book that he looks around 25. And someone said “it is perverted for a 26 year old to fall for a 18 year old” uhm, hello? They are ACTING. And its not like people of 10 years age difference don’t get married in real life too.

The only problem i see with this, is that the people who saw the first movie and did not read the book and then saw the second movie, they will be confused. But then again, someone above said that that could be a good thing, because Bella is confused too, and it could be sorta like seeing things from her point of view in the movie too…if that makes any sense. lol :)

I understand what people are saying about how in the book Jacob looks like he’s in his twenties but its still so wrong to replace Taylor. Besides the fact that it will leave 75% of the fanbase in an uproar, it always looks cheesy and cheap when there’s replacement actors and then the movie never does well.
They don’t stick to every description in the book so i don’t see why they want to keep that one so badly. There’s much more a chance at the fans being pissed with a replacement actor than being upset cuz Taylor doesn’t look old enough.
Chris Weitz is getting off on the wrong foot with the fanbase. Everyone loves Taylor.
In fact, If i remember correctly, taylor wasn’t originally supposed to be in the prom scene but the people who previewed the movie specifically asked for more Jacob. If that doesn’t show Taylor’s acting ability, I don’t know what does.

I agree with everyone who says that Taylor should do New Moon and all the other sequels. Hes right for the role of Jacob and no one can take that from him. Us as the fandom have grown to love and know him as Jacob and then to tell us that they are going to change him because hes too “short” is down right pathetic.
USE CGI OR SOMETHING, JUST DON’T CHANGE OUR JACOB!!
      WE LOVE HIM!!!

No one will probably mind so much if Taylor gets recast so long as the new actor that will play Jacob will be better, not worse. Michael Copon will be worse than Taylor and this is why no one is accepting him being replaced. I can accept Steven Strait as Jacob because he looks similar to Taylor and it will be believable for him to play the older Jacob, plus he’s already taller than Rob and he’s just as HOT and SEXY as Rob on screen. Michael isn’t as sexy, he looks to old to play the part of Jacob and his acting ability isn’t as good.

Taylor is way way way better then that michael dude, whatever his name is. This decision of summit will affect its viewers and i am NOT gonna watch the movie if the ever replace Taylor Lautner and besides if they will replace taylor wid dat michael dude, he will be so freakn’ old when they film breaking dawn.. his like 26 nw.. and he will be like 30 on the last book, which is way bad then replacing taylor because his not buf enough or something

    191. Scarlett Says:
      December 18th, 2008 at 5:27 am

I cried when I first heard the recast rumour. I was devastated.
Taylor IS Jacob as many have said. He is just perfect for the role, also he is so enthusiastic about it. In interviews he is just so happy about the movies and being able to play Jacob.

I love Twilight, am obbsessed with it. I followed the whole making of the movie and it just made me so happy.

But I WILL never look at anything Twilight related again if Taylor is recast. I respect him as an actor and love his skills much more than this movie.

I think Summit are, to be quite honest, idiots.
They made millions more than anyone expected thanks to US FANS. It’s because of us and our dedication it was such a hit. With all that money they can easily make Taylor look taller…I mean do you really think Robbie Coltrane is 8ft 6 in real life for his role as Hagrid, no he isn’t. If you recast Taylor for something so silly as height then I will lose all respect for you. Just for the sake of a little extra cash.

The number one priority should be the fans, not the money. We don’t care if Jacob isn’t insanely tall for the movie, Taylors acting skills can more than make up for it.

& If your excuse is ’staying loyal to the book’ well did you see ‘Twilight’ Many, many things were changed. Movies can not be 100% the same as books. I would rather see Taylor as Jacob than some other actor who is taller.

If you recast Taylor then I promise you, you will not be getting any more of my money. I won’t see any of your movies at the cinema, buy any of the DVD’s or anything related to you that will get you money.

I glad to see he’s fighting to remain as Jacob. He appears to take Jacob’s overall character very seriously. I like had he distinguished between the complexity of Jacob’s personality from Twilight into the middle of New Moon. He knows what the job is.

..you know, i just dont understand WHY they cant cast taylor again. he’s putting on muscle, so check on that part…and as for the height..

you know how they made the hobbits short in lord of the rings? why cant they just do that (but the opposite - make him taller) for new moon… im sure they have the money for just taylors height, its not like they’ll be editing the height of an entire cast or anything..

      just my two cents.
