Hot Topic Debuts Twilight Couture Line
By Twilight_News | December 23, 2008
No, the title of this entry is not a typo. Yes, we’re finding it …searching for the right word…bizarre, weird, strange …still searching…that we just used "Hot Topic" and "couture" in the same sentence. It wins the prize hands down as the biggest Twilight related oxymoron(how’s that for the right word) we’ve ever run across, and that is saying something! So, what do you think about the latest from Hot Topic?
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:30 pm
First comment!!!
Interesting shirts…
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Apparently - if you put Twilight on anything, people will buy it… at least that’s what Hot Topic is hoping for. I’m just wondering what the design has to do with Twilight? I don’t get it?
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Oh I think they’re cute….
Does anyone know when the twilight saga official guide will be released? I looked at barnes and nobels and they said September 30, 2009 but then on borders it says it’s being released on Febuary 1, 2009. I’d like to klnow when it’s coming to stores, since my copy of Breaking Dawn said December 30, 2008….
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:37 pm
they`re just trying to make more money .__.
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:37 pm
twilightxstars - December 30, 2008. I’m in Canada and Chapters.ca is pre-selling the book to be released Dec 30, 2008.
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Does anyone know if they’re really making a Filipino version of Twilight?
http://perezhilton.com/2008-12-23-filipino-version-of-twilight-to-begin-production-soon#respond
We actually heard about it from a source other than Perez. We’re currently checking it out, but given that everyone is on Christmas Break, I doubt that I’ll have an answer before December 26th.

December 23rd, 2008 at 4:38 pm
Um, they are good…
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:49 pm
I love the black one…
Definitely don’t love the price though. $60 for a t-shirt?
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
http://www.thetwilightsaga.com/blog/hey-fans-an-update-on-the-twilight-saga-the-official-guide
It’s definitely not the 30th of December 2008.
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:53 pm
LoL. It’s a T-SHIRT adding couture to the description means they can charge more money. Hot Topic has changed a lot of the years, but this is a new low. LoL
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:59 pm
nice…tho when i think couture it’s something else…. maybe it’s an excuse to overprice ‘em.
December 23rd, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I agree with Alicia. I don’t get what it has to do with the book or the movie except slapping Twilight onto the side of the shirts. Odd. So expensive too …
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:00 pm
As twilighters, we need to show that puting Twilight on a shirt is not going to make us just hand over all of our money. Its really kind of insulting.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Okay, am I seriously the only one seeing it?
All four shirts have the Cullen Crest one them. You know, the ridiculous thing used in the Twilight Movie to give the Cullens an extra sense of unity? The Cullen Crest? With the Lion? It’s there. On all four of them. :]
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I saw the Crest, too, but still think these T-Shirts are WAAAY overpriced. They’ve got a cool desing, but calling something Couture shouldn’t be the green light to charge an arm and a leg. And Twilight selling Couture items is pretty much saying they’ve officially sold out. Sad, really.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:13 pm
they are cute but i feel that twilight is now too commercial.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Just because they put a fancy schmancy design on a shirt does not make it couture.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I, personally, hate the Cullen Crest. I think it is a completely ridiculous concept. So I not in too much favour with these shirts or their prices.
Twilight should not need pretty designs or pretty emblems to mean something. These T-shirts are pretty, but in my eyes they are not Twilight - like.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:31 pm
I like it!!!
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:45 pm
they’re just trying to milk out everything they can from people who will buy anything related to twilight… it’s quite sad and ridiculous.
“everything about the music”
hahahaah. right.
on a side note, in the top two pictures… the model looks so much like Samaire Armstrong.
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:52 pm
*Sigh*… Companys will do anything for more money. Though I am suprised that this is coming from Hot Topic… Ha ha the white shirt is totally see-thru.. These weird things I notice.;)
December 23rd, 2008 at 5:58 pm
i love it.
hot topic rocks!
they are all about the music!!!! doesn’t mean they cant go outside the box!!!! duh!
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:03 pm
What?
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:04 pm
hmmm i really want a business that doesnt make money…do you guys think before you write? gosh
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:06 pm
definitely!
a business is a business…they don’t put a gun to someone’s head to go buy the shirt…
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:07 pm
yep! it’s corporate for yah! how else will a business make money!? YOU ROCK HOT TOPIC!!!
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Nothing couture at all about those shirts.
I’m a fashion student, i should know.
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Twilight is WAY TO COMMERCIALIZED. Its really ridiculous. I have some Twilight things, but I’m gettin tired of it. Its gone a little overboard.
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
i like the shirts… but i also like any swirly designs. id like to see more tshirts that have to do with the books. btw ppl were asking what the design has to do with twilight, the answer is the crest that the twilight movie created for the cullen family is in the design. thats what it has to do with twilight
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:17 pm
all business.
not couture…
just business
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:18 pm
if people don’t like twilight…then stop surrounding yourself with it…right?
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:19 pm
fashion sshmasion…unless you’re in the industry you dont know much. it’s not about fashion anymore…it’s called profits!!!!
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:43 pm
I think they are pretty cute.

Couture=amazing quality.
hence couture brands, like dior, juicy, d and g,
I highly highly doubt hot topic is actually makeing clothing that can withstand ware and tare.
The top shirt is see thru, yeah, great matirial.
im insulted.
The words twilight and couture sell.
thats all there is to it.
The black on is cute tho.
and omg to who ever said the top model looks like Samaire Armstrong, she totally does!
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:51 pm
absolutely ridiculous.
December 23rd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Woah. Those are pretty cute. I wouldn’t mind wearing them.
Hot Topic and courture…well, that IS an oxymoron.
As soon as I get some money, I’m going to completely raid Hot Topic. XD
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:03 pm
They’ve turned Twilight into a headache, unfortunately. =[
We Twilighters aren’t that obsessed….seriously…waaay too overpriced.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:37 pm
Yay!!! more money they can get out of me ^_^
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:50 pm
All of the Twilight merchandise kind of gets on my nerves. I feel like they’re just trying everything they can to make money off the books we love.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:01 pm
They’re kind of cute, but…honestly? Are we ever going to get some stuff with real color in it? I mean, a shirt that isn’t black or white? How about some purple, green, or blue, or just something?! I just find it ironic because whenever they had us e-mailing merchandise ideas in, they said they would use color. So um, where is that?
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:01 pm
WHO CARES IF PEOPLE BUY IT THEY BUY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BUY THEN DON’T !! YOUR GIVING ME A HEADACHE !!
IT DOESN’T MATTER PEOPLE IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT THEN DON’T BUY IT OR LOOK AT IT !! IT’S THAT SIMPLE AND ABOUT THE T.V SHOW IT’S NOT IN AMERICA IT SHOULDN’T BOTHER YOU !!!
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:09 pm
What does it have to do with Twilight? um, the Cullen Crest prominently placed on it? the colour scheme and swirls and such are all reminiscent of designs already employed on other merchandise, such as the music-box and buttons where it is used as background.
Why are they so expensive? The website claims them to be a limited run of 1000 and sells them with a collective box.
Is it over-priced? Yes, it is a t-shirt.
Are they hoping just by “slapping twilight onto something they will make more money”? Sure. THEY ARE A CORPORATION IN A CAPITALIST DRIVEN SOCIETY, if they weren’t out to make money, what ARE they trying to do?
I bought the black one. Why? Because I REALLY like it and I have a holiday bonus from 2 jobs that wont spend itself.
Quit crying and attacking Hot Topic (who has supplied us fans with a CRAPLOAD of quality fan-driven merchandise for this series already) just because you don’t like their choice of wording, and because YOU can’t afford the freakin shirts.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Whoa someone needs a time out…
I think they are cute I would buy one even if it didn’t have Twilight on but not for $60. I love very ornate designs like this which is why photoshop and iron ons are my friend…lol
As for it’s relation to the book/film I can see it since there is so much emphasis put on the fashion sense of the Cullens and how they look like models…maybe…or am I grasping at straws
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Does anyone know what the hand on the crest is supposed to stand for? Or is it just supposed to be there cuz they wanted it there?
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:21 pm
As I don’t enjoy paying to be a walking advertisement, I hate clothes that have huge logos/words and pictures of people’s faces on them. So design-wise, this is a nice change of pace. Too bad they’re 60 bucks.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
yay more shirts yay i want them i want them all yay i’m happy i love twilight and hottopic put them together and what do you got twilight stuff at hottopic yay i’m a little crazy today sorry lol yay
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
They are nice looking shirts.
I almost bought one.
Until I saw the price.
$60 for a t-shirt is a little much for me.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
YOU GUYS CALL IN AND WISH STEPHENIE MEYER A HAPPY BIRTHDAY it won’t take a long TIME AND WE ALL OWE HER ALOT AND IT’S HER BIRTHDAY IT WOULD MEAN ALOT .. THERE ONLY DOING IT FOR AN HOUR FROM 7 PM EST TO 8 SO HURRY thanks
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/VampRadio/2008/12/24/Twilight-Hour-122308
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
I like them :D. Yeah, they’re a little pricey.. But I’d buy one if I had the money. Yes, it’s about making money, but that’s what a business is for.. I mean, at least they’re pretty!! Haha. I like them.
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
The shirts are cute enough, kind of tatoo-y. I never much liked the idea of the Cullen Crest that they made up for the moivie. It seems out of character for the Cullens. I like the home-made looking shirts more, ones that are more tied to the books instead of the movie. Movie stuff gets a little too shiny for my taste.
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
I think the shirts are very cute…but I’m not going to pay $60 for one shirt. I love my Twilight merch and have lots of it (including Esme’s bracelet—love it!), but to pay $60 for one shirt? nah. $30, yeah, but not $60. They are very cute though, so I say if ya like it…GET IT :o)
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I really like the design. The black one is my favorite. However, I think they’re overpriced and I haven’t seen one of the shirts in person, but they look cheaply made. If it was $20, I’d get one. But I don’t spend $60 on any type of clothing…
December 23rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
Oh I think they’re pretty. I love the traditional shirts with the hands and the apple or just the title, but these have the feel, you know?
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
LOL!!! WHOA!!! VERY SEE THROUGH!! ( left top hand)
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 pm
How ’bout “ew”? ;P
December 24th, 2008 at 12:17 am
hmmm…the tee’s are cute and all….but i’m not paying 60 smackaroos for a bit of studded cotton
December 24th, 2008 at 12:19 am
i think it would be cool to have a alice cullen line of clothing
December 24th, 2008 at 12:27 am
not going to pay that much for no dang tee
December 24th, 2008 at 1:11 am
The tees are hot. I’d buy one. I don’t care if they’re $60. I have a job, and pretty well-paying one I might add, so I can afford it.
Pepper - preach on, sistah.
FYI, the following statement employs a lot of sarcasm:
I just love how elitist people are.
WTF do people do when their wishes are granted (i.e. more exposure for our fave novels/movie, merchandise reflecting our obsession)? They condemn the hand that feeds it. Get over yourselves people. It’s extremely immature and snobbish to suddenly cry “sell out!” - study economics, then you’ll understand what/why for Hot Topic.
People will do and say anything to stay isolated in their self-absorbed worlds where anything that remotely becomes “commercialized” is suddenly verbotten.
You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. We’d hear nonstop b*tching and moaning if no companies paid our fandom any attention and we had nothing to show for our obsessive love of all things Twilight. Just go with it and enjoy it. If you don’t want to buy the tees, fine, don’t buy the tees. But you lower yourselves by being elitist and spouting irrational comments regarding one company’s attempt to stay afloat in a normally bad time for retail (that “bad time” would be the recession we’re currently in, for you people who have no idea what I’m talking about). It’s capitalism at its finest, folks, so deal with it.
December 24th, 2008 at 1:13 am
They’re really cute
I love the whole Cullen Crest in general. To me, it totally seems like something the Cullens would have. Just to show that they really are a family even though none of them are technically related
The design around it is also very pretty, I love how it flows.
The pricing and limited printing, however, are very unhappymaking
They’re WAY overpriced, specially for being freakin see-through! and I always hate things that are made with such a limited amount just because of how many people are sad because they can’t afford it in time before its sold out (I know I won’t be able to).
So, yes on the design, no for the price
maybe some awesome people will have em on ebay for cheaper xD
December 24th, 2008 at 1:16 am
ohhhh prettyyyy!!
*checks price*
oh hell no..
December 24th, 2008 at 3:04 am
I know all of you are saying its all about the money….but like, what isn’t these days???
Merch to do with any major seller -ie Star Wars, Twilight etc- is always going to be overpriced. (I mean have you SEEN those star wars clone helmets?? Its like paying 90 bux for plastic!!)
Our world revolves around money! All we can do is pray to god that they’ll actually do something useful with the money that crazed fans hand to them.
But personally; kudos to the awesome shhirts!! I was like niiiiiiiiiice when I saw the pics. I really like them. Sorta edgy too. I really want one :):):)
I wonder how much shipping is……..
December 24th, 2008 at 3:09 am
I think they are taking advantage of the fans charging that kind of price for a t-shirt and a hoodie!! its really kind of ridiculous.
December 24th, 2008 at 5:12 am
The t-shirts are definitely overpriced, but I like the concept, even if it’s not “couture” in the literal sense.
I have to say, I’m a fan of the Cullen crest… I looked it up, and it’s a combination of the two historical Cullen family coat-of-arms crests, which is pretty cool. It’s not 100% historically accurate, color-wise, but I still love that they put in historical details like that. The Cullens have a lot of history, after all. Especially with Carlisle’s heritage, which is what the crest represents.
And sure, the Cullens don’t wear them in the books, but I thought it was a great way to represent their family unity on-screen. (And also a good marketing move, of course, because of the merchandise opportunities. Oh, well, what can you do? That’s capitalism. I still love my Alice choker. ;D)
December 24th, 2008 at 6:39 am
Well isn’t that special… when they can make every single shirt… and i mean every single shirt and that includes the hoodies for their sister store, Torrid… let us all know…
I personally like the mens hoodies… why you may ask… cause they look nicer…. and are more decorative… they don’t just say TWILIGHT…
December 24th, 2008 at 10:51 am
actually the twilight saga does not come out this year anymore, it is moved into 2009
December 24th, 2008 at 11:02 am
In a few months, Twilight will most likley fade out of the stores and Harry Potter will take over for their newest installment, so just enjoy the Twilight mania while it still lasts…until New Moon explodes into theaters…then it just start all over again.
December 24th, 2008 at 11:20 am
i love it but 60bucks! 50 is already pushing it!
December 24th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
I think the did a poor job on the design… it’s quite unattractive. It could have been so much nicer - especially for that price…
December 24th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Their ok, but the price is kind of $$$ but not as $$$ compared to the hoodie thats $90!!
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302038087&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442192496&bmUID=1230147238504
To bad they’re stuff is not cheaper. I would have gotten somethings!
December 24th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
did any one see this? it’s a twilight scented perfume…funny I never knew books and movis had scents…
http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302038087&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442193679&bmUID=1230148025281
December 24th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
The new shirts are nice, but I’m definitely not going to pay $60 for a t-shirt.
December 24th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
My roommate and I were having a discussion about hot topic and borders and other places selling twilight related things. I think its great that the books are getting popular, and that movies are being made, but like my roommate said, people are just falling for the business/commercial aspect of twilight. I mean dont get me wrong, I will admit that I bought the twilight calender @ borders before the movie came out, and i bought the stupid lamb tshirt from twilight for the midnight showing, but things are getting a little out of control. I love how things were before the movie came out, where you can find t-shirts on the internet that had things from the book, and not from the movie. Everything that hot topic and borders are selling is from the movie perspective, except for the team jacob and team edward t shirts. I do appreciate the movie and the actors and everything about it, but it seems like people are appreciating the movie more than the actual book…
December 24th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
yea i agree with pretty much everything you say….i think its getting to commercial and people really aren’t appreciating the actual book…
December 24th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
and idk….i dont really like the shirts. i would like them better if they had stuff from the book not from the movie…also 60 bucks!! honestly…thats way to much
December 24th, 2008 at 5:12 pm
i like the shirts, they’re cute. but 60 bucks??? who’s gonna pay that!?
December 24th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Was it too much to ask for sparkles?
December 24th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
“who’s gonna pay that!?”
i did.
December 24th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
I believe the word they were looking for was “t-shirt”, not “couture”. High fashion this is not.
December 24th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
I totally bought the hoody as a Christmas present to myself. WOO. I think it’s pretty! And the shirts are nice too, but I think one Twilight related garment is good enough for now, haha.
I’m glad they made these b/c I’m a little too old to be wearing a shirt with Robert Pattinson’s face on it, lol.
This stuff is similar to the “Disney Couture” shirts that Disney had out a while ago. It’s just supposed to be a little more “fashion” and not so “movie”, that’s all.
December 24th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
And, uh, hey, it’s not nearly as awful as the Edward Body Shimmer that you can also get at HT. For 9.99 you can shimmer like a vampire!
December 25th, 2008 at 3:05 am
Okay people slow down, a few years back when we all prayed Twilight would hit the silver screens werent we hoping for the big bang that soon followed? Seriously Twilight may be everywhere but it was asked for with millions of fans begging for a movie. I personally love that hot topic is milking the twilight train, they are simply giving us what we wanted. Yes it may be overpriced, but seriously its hot topic I have always recalled them with a little bit of high prices. But i still gladly gave them my money to keep sucessfully intergrating the market. If it wasn’t for stores like hot topic you wouldnt have had a pretty tee to wear to the movie (which some ppl went to a mass amount of times) so either way the money you put into the stores and filmakers that sell Twilight for all its worth. Just think its all coming back to us anyway with the continuing of the silver screen versions of our beloved books
Also that guy is really cute =)
December 25th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Just so you know, they one that is “see-through” is a burnout material-they’re supposed to be like that.
December 25th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
The dude kinda looks like a younger, less scruffy Chris Angel…
December 25th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
OMG THEY HAVE TWILIGHT PERFUME!!! IM SOOO BUYING THAT!!!!
December 25th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
The shirts are nice, but they don’t really relate to Twilight. The patterns are very good, but I don’t see the connection. The designs don’t really scream out couture, but they’re still pretty.
December 25th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
I agree that the shirts are overpriced but the overpriced part comes from the company name…The materials could be as similiar as to Old Navy. Anyways…they also feature Lion and Lamb rings which I will purchase for my better half than I *shrugs*
December 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
meh their t-shirts.
just t-shirts.
only t-shirts.
rather cute t-shirts.
December 27th, 2008 at 12:09 am
As for me the shirts are totally cute!I got a Twilight shirt at Hot Topic at the mall today and yeah it was expensive but what isn’t these days?!?! I mean I wanted to buy underwear too but its 3 for $15 or 1 for $6!!! Who would pay that kind of money for clothing that covers not even half of you and that no ones gonna see?!?!?!? But I love the tees!!! If you want the shirts that bad you’ll find a way to buy it but if you really don’t to take the time to save up some money then obviously you dont want the shirt too bad!!
December 29th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Awesome, finally a Twilight shirt thats not trashy.
