TAYLOR IS JACOB

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

I’d just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I’m truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I’m very much looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to Jacob’s character this year.

I don’t usually check the Lex QUITE this often, but somehow I just got online and thought maybe I should come check just in case there was any news…perhaps I’m secretly psychic! I also just ran outside into the snow to tell my mom the news right away; we’ve both been really hoping Taylor would get to keep the part and dying to hear the news. I’m really glad Weitz and co. made the right decision here - Taylor really deserves the part; he’s a fantastic Jake and I can’t wait to see him take on all the Jaketastic parts of New Moon. Congrats, Taylor!

I am very happy. When they came up with him for Twilight, I was so excited! it was like somebody took my image of Jacob right out of my mind (sorry, but before this movie I had no idea who he was) and he was great, even though he hardly had any lines in the movie at all. But he has something that a lot of the actors out there don’t have: a passion for twilight and the wonderful world that SM has created. So, I really think this is a great desition. BTW, let’s hope they change Nikki R. as Rosalie, since her aunt is no longer the director, and get somebody who actually looks like Rosalie…

I’m glad they decided to keep Taylor on! He seems really committed to the part and it will be good to see how he plays the older jacob! I thought he did great as a younger version!
i know some people disagree b/c they love the jacob/bella story- but as a die-hard Team Edward member, I don’t really need to have the connection with the guy who plays Jacob like I do to say… um.. Robert Pattinson!?

I guess why i was hoping for an older looking Jacob is because Jacob has ALWAYS been my Favorite character and it seemed like most of the people rooting for taylor to play Jacob doesn’t even like Jacob the character in the book.I mean I always hear dissing on his character. So thats why i guess i felt it meant more to me in a way cause I had always wonderd the most out of all the characters of the saga,who would be Jacob and i wasnt to impressed with Taylor but he has grown on me and he did alright in Twilight.I HOPE they can make him look older wich i doubt but I will give Taylor a chance in N.M. It’s to good of a story not to be a good movie.right?

How horrible wouldit have been if he was not?How hard on him when he saw the movie, thinking of himself missing out on that part. I’m glad he got the part, because I’m a Jacob fan and he just totally looks the part..

OMG OMG!!! I have to be honest and say there were a few tears of joy when i read this. this is a crucial role and he has stuff to pull this off and with his own personal style … Jacob was exactly what Bella needed and Taylor is who Jacob needs. (i’m sure the other actors would have done a wonderful job….. but this BELONGS to Taylor)

That is great. I was honestly hoping they would change Edward though. After reading the books, he just does not seem like the perfect fit. Not that he is not a good actor but I expected someone with a little more WOW for playing Edward. Everyone I have talked to felt the same too.

YAY!! i’m so excited for taylor! he is obviously so dedicated for trying to gain weight and buff up; he really deserves this. and although i am team edward 100%, i thought taylor and kristen had more chemistry in the movie than rob and kristen did, but maybe that’s just me…
i’d just like to make a point that nobody seems to really realize, or maybe they realize it but don’t think it’s important. think about how many things that were considered “important” in the book that were easily edited out of the movie. now think, honestly, how important it is for taylor to be a beast. sam and embry are werewolves; we see them in the first movie and they’re not giants. why was it so important for taylor to be tall and big? sure, it’s important to those who know the books, but to those who’ve never read the series before, how would taylor being taller or bigger make any difference to them? basically i’m saying that taylor is perfect for the part and they shouldn’t replace him (which they didn’t…) because i don’t think height and weight are critically important, even if it’s a symbol in the book. does anyone understand what i’m getting at?

Chris Weitz rocks. I really hope people start to give him the benefit of the doubt now. I think he’ll do fantastic things with the series. He knows what he’s doing. I’m happy for Taylor and more than anything I’m glad Michael Copon didn’t get the part. If there’s anything that makes me gag, it is cocky actors like Michael Copon who think they are all that. I really hope the cast of Twilight can stay innocent and grounded. That’s what makes them so believable in their roles.

Excellent news. It’s possible that another actor may have “looked” the part more, once Jake transforms, but seriously–consistency is hugely important and, even moreso, the actor’s emotional involvement with the character. We’ve all seen that Taylor is a big fan. We’ve established him as the movie Jacob. Those two things make him the perfect pick, and I’m glad the author, director, and studio have committed to it.

I’m pleased their keeping the continuity going on this.
Before I saw the Twilight movie, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Taylor as Jacob; but when I saw him in action; I was pleasantly surprised.
Taylor is very similar to Jacob in so many ways, his smile lights up a room, he’s charismatic; and dare I say it, a little over confident (Which isn’t a bad thing).
So I was disappointed when they were in talks to recast his role. I think Taylor won us all over with his screen time in Twilight.
Congrats Taylor, I know you’ll make us all proud, and I can’t wait until filming starts.

i am completely stoked that Taylor will portray Jacob in New Moon
When they first cast him ill admit my first thought was, how is he going to grow like 10 inches but then he did wonderfully well in Twilight and if they gave him a part they shouldnt just take it away from him
And although i might be more team Edward than team JHacob, i am definitely team Taylor than team Michael
in some of his interviews i read he seemed very arrogant and jerkish
i do wonder if the real reason Taylor was chosen was just because Summit didnt want to lose fans, but i hope it wasnt

YAY! I’m so excited and happy for Taylor! It’s weird how much my opinion has changed about him. When I found out he was going to Jacob Black, my favorite character from the whole saga, I couldn’t stand an idea of it. It felt for me that the whole character had been ruined. BUT after I’d seen the movie, I really fell in love with him and I was so sad when I heard that they were unsure if he’d be Jacob in other movies. I’m so glad right now! I hope they’ll make better special effects, though, because in Twilight they were not that special..

I think i’m one of the minorities here about this casting decision. I’m a die hard twilight fan as well but I dont think Taylor is hot enough for Jacob’s role-he doesnt look very attractive with the long hair in the movie and I think Copon or Strait would have been much better… just my opinion! In the spirit of doing more than squeeing in this post (though I am quite squeeful) I’d like to congratulate not only Taylor, but Chris Weitz.
I realize it’s not wholly his decision who stays and who goes but he has a powerful influence. Keeping Taylor was not only, in my opinion, best for the series, but best for Weitz’s life.
It was an excellent tactical decision; the fangirls would’ve flayed him alive. No other actor on the planet would’ve prevented the fandom from replicating the storming of the Bastille at Summit Entertainment and (I’m sure) Weitz’s (now heavily protected) front gate.
I’m also glad to hear Steph is still heavily involved in the cinematic creation of her own world. I knew she got on well with Hardwicke and I didn’t have doubts about Weitz, but I wasn’t sure if her presence would be as visible. I’m glad to here it.
So overall, Chris is doing an excellent job; both tactically and cinematically. Keeping the author on speed dial not only ensures (at least some) parallel to the book but that the fans don’t have to worry about the future of a great movie series.
Keeping previous actors is not only good for fluidity and crediblity of a film but for the contentment of fans everywhere. I don’t care if in NM he changes so much he looks like a different person. Books and movies are two completely different mediums and should be treated as such.
I’m also thrilled for Taylor; he seems like such a good-natured, kind person and he really is Jacob to me– even outside the set, his personality is just… right. So, stay with us Taylor, get a good agent and sign on for the next two films too. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice…
Sorry for the tirade; I’m just happy- breathing a little easier I guess.

I support whatever decision Stephenie makes regarding the movie and cast. After all, she ought to know what will or won’t work ultimately. I’m interested to see what changes Taylor will bring to his interpretation of Jacob in the upcoming movies. The best thing about us Twilighters is that we are generally supportive of the people “in charge” thus far: Stephenie Meyer, Catherine Hardwicke, Chris Weitz. We suspend critique until we actually know what’s going on. We’re a mature fan following. Best of luck to Taylor, Weitz and everyone involved in New Moon!

taylor is perfect as jacob. no matter how grown up jacob looks in NM, his heart & mind is that only of a 16yo who falls for bella. and taylor can definitely bring that out to life. being bulked up is not such an extreme factor to consider. I remember how kristen’s age was such a big deal during casting. I think it’s the same with taylor being jacob +++ on-screen chemistry, etc. etc.

Congratulations to Taylor! I have to say I was not a fan at first - and I thought he was a little too young to play my image of Jacob in New Moon. However, he completely won me over with his devotion to the part and the tons of effort he put forth to secure the New Moon role. No one else cound have worked harder - That’s the kind of dedication we Twilighters like to see. I can’t wait to watch what he does with all of the nuances of Jacob in New Moon.

I was really looking forward to a more MANLY Jacob and (get your pitchforks ready) better acting for the part of Jacob. the Copoun guy or the other dude from Scorpion King would have been a better choice. Taylor has a great attitude, though and lots of enthusiasm. Props to him for that. Oh well, hopefully Rpatz will get used to his contacts so maybe he can give a better performance than he did in Twilight. Otherwise, i prob wont bother with the rest of the franchise. CRAPPY!!!!!! Taylor was fine for twilight and that was all. And he was fine for the teen fan base, but what about the other half of us? i was so excited with the prospect of a replacement fot jacob, that i am now so bitterly disapointed, im not sure whether or not i will look foward to new moon. chris weitz is being a teeny boppper heine kisser. they are not the only fan base. and stephenie is probably just being nice. sure taylor is emotionally prepared for it, he’s had over a year to be so, give someone else a chance, and they would learn to be emotionally ready for it too. THE BOTTOM LINE IS TAYLOR LAUTNER CANNOT CARRY NEW MOON.!

I was so happy when they considered getting rid of Taylor. Lautner is not a good actor. He is so.. artificial.. there’s nothing true in him. Jake is a very complex character, with his inability do deal with the life of adults (which was dropped on his head so early) and his feelings.
Now I know that New Moon will be worse than Twilight.

nope taylor sucks it, and so does the moderator who deleted my previous comment. you guys are so f***in biased.
Actually, your comment was held in the filter for language and then deleted as is any comment containing profanity. It’s not just you it’s anyone’s comment on any topic. You’re not getting any special deletion service. Yes we are absolutely biased against people who can’t express themselves without cursing out others.
We get it, you don’t think Taylor is up to the role. We clued in around post number 3 as did everyone else on the thread. Spamming board with profanity doesn’t get your comments approved any faster when the language used in them traps them in the filter, and being beligerant to other posters tends to negate whatever point you are trying to make in most people’s eyes.
By all means continue your thoughts on why you don’t want Taylor, but kindly do so in a manner respectful to others
