MTV has a post up about speculation of New Moon casting. There have been rumors circulating on the Internet for a month on who will play Leah Clearwater. Now granted, we haven’t seen Melissa Rosenberg’s script, but keep in mind, however that these might just be rumors since in the books Leah actually appears in Eclipse and is only mentioned in passing in New Moon. We’re actually thinking that Volturi casting rumors might be more credible at this point. MTV is also covering New Moon actors in the video clips found here.
Yahoo Movies has New Moon listed as one of the most anticipated movies of 2009.
FILM Gecko Film Gecko is confirming what we have long suspected with the upcoming New Moon movie, and has been backed up by Lana Veenker (who cast the local parts for Twilight), "The L.A. casting director has been hired, but their information will not be posted. I’m guessing that’s because of the number of unsolicited calls and submissions they’d receive." In other words folks unless you are an established industry professional with representation, there’s no point in sending in your resume for …fill in name of character here. There is no casting cattle call at this point. No news on extras yet, which typically will be a local cast.

If the roles for N.M start being overcome by Disney actors and people that have been in like High school musical I am going to be seriously annoyed. I would rather have ALL unknowns rather than that.

HEY…They whould get that girl that played Pocahontas in that movie “The New World” with Collin Farrell and Christian Bale!!! She was pretty much an unknown and she is Native American..PLUS she was so young when she did that movie she should be around the right age now. Rob is 22 and playing a 17 year old..so she could do it.plus she should only be about 17 or 18 in real life now anyway.

How hard is it to find a native American girl who can act???????? Young Harry potter cast were first time actors and they did really well! If they r having trouble finding the right person within a deadline, they can take their time! I dun mind waiting for the best result!

Dorian-YES! That girl would be perfect! Not some disney actor totally full of him/herself who in my opinion can’t act anyway. Those guys seem like the only reason they’re into it is for the fame, not the art.

I will seriously ANNOYED if this film is overrun with Disney actors or people from High School Musical. I’d much rather have all unknown actors who I’m sure would pull it off much more convincingly than glorified real life barbie dolls. Barf.

Heck no, NO DISNEY PEOPLE please. No, way. I mean Leah is described as a harpy in Eclipse, Disney people are too happy and princess like to play that. Please choose someone who can convey Leah’s feelings all that emotion and anger. Please, you choose a Disney star and it’ll ruin everything. I mean next thing you know if they choose any of them, Leah would break into song. UHHHMMMMMM, Yeah I doubt Leah would break into song when she’s been broken hearted and turning into a werewolf.

I’ve always liked the idea of Camilla Belle as Leah too. I know she’s not Native American, but she has such unique features I think she could pull it off. Picture her with long, straight black hair and a tan…

yea i agree camille Belle looks good in that pick with long hair and could pull off Native American. she can play really sweet and shy kind of quiet for Emily or bitchy for Leah.

A.Leigh–it might work then! Because there is always tension between Leah & Bella and there is such great chemistry between Rob & Kristen that casting Camilla might create the same kind tension between her and Kristen. Ok, now I’m thinking too much into this…..

wow. People are really harsh on Disney stars. Just because they act a certain way on the Disney shows, does not mean they’re going to do the same thing for every role they get. Although, I can’t imagine any of them being in New Moon. They should cast a Native American.

Brenda Song, Vanessa Hudgens? Umm.. they were thinking about recasting TAYLOR,and they might cast them? That is nuts. This has to be a rumor. They’re not even close to being Native American. I like Leah, and they don’t do a justice.&&these new movies look good.
OH yeah, New Moon should be THE most intesipated movie of ‘09. And now that Taylor is Jacob, I can acually look foward to seeing it. I wonder how long it is going to be? I hope they make it longer the Twilight, to get movie information into it.
Does this mean the cast is set? I want to know!! And did anyone notice that on the site it said pre-production… for the thiird Twilight book “Breaking Dawn” What is that supposed to mean? Their skipping Eclipse and trying to squish it into 1 movie of what?

it’s not that i have anything against disney actors.. it’s just that i don’t think any of those girls are right for new moon. there aren’t any asian girls in the book… and i just can’t see vanessa hudgens or selena gomez in it. just because they have more money for this movie doesn’t mean they have to get all of these high paid actors. i just rrrrreally hope they don’t mess this movie up.

They changed “Breaking Dawn” to Eclipse as the 3rd movie. Just a typo.
Anyway, while I like HSM, I don’t think that Hudgens or Song should be cast as the werewolves or anyone in New Moon. Maybe as an extra or calefare.
They are just not suitable at all, at least to me. I can’t see Leah’s personality in them.
And I like Leah as a minor character. She is a great person, even if she’s bitter. I don’t want her character to be ruined.

I had heard that they were only doing 3 movies and I completely agree, they can do Eclipse as written then tack Breaking Dawn on the end, which can be easily condensed into like 1/2 hr. for the wedding, the pregnancy and the change… then they can really knock out a stellar finale with the gathering of the vamps and the final confrontation with the Volturi. Now jumping way ahead… I wonder how they will portray Nessie? Complete CGI???
I also initially thought they MUST replace Taylor as Jacob for N.M and Eclipse because of the physical changes he goes through, but then after seeing Taylor in the role, I think emotionally he is perfect, so I would be more than willing to overlook the physical deficit if they can’t completely adjust for it. He has the most KILLER smile….•swoon• I know… a smile does not a werewolf make… but it sure HELPS! LOL!

Also, as far as whether or not to use Disney actors… I think they need to focus on casting actors who first and foremost LOOK indian (regardless of nationality) and who can also accurately portray the part. I don’t care who they are or what they’ve done before (young actors have to start somewhere!) I only care that they can do the job at hand CONVINCINGLY!!!!! That being said, I don’t think Vanessa looks quite right.
I will be anxiously waiting like everyone else to see what Chris does with it. I was bummed when Catherine didn’t come back, but at the same time there were a few things I would have liked to see differently… (like I was TURBO disappointed that they completely deconstructed the Meadow Scene into like 3 or 4 different scenes when that is the PIVOTAL moment of the entire series!!!!) So I am actually stoked to see what a new director can do, plus his CGI experience from GoldCompass will be crucial.
New Moon is actually my favorite book of the 4, with Eclipse in a tight 2nd place. Love Edward dearly - but I am SO Team Jacob! Now I just hope and pray that Steph publishes Midnight Sun and they do a movie for that one too. I love Twilight from Bella’s perspective, but I think Edward’s story is infinitely more exciting than Bella’s. If you haven’t read the rough draft - it is spectacular.

I beleive the main reason they shouldn’t cast disney actors is because they are accustomed to being apealing to younger viewers, and most of the disney actors are childstars, that would better suit the Phoenix scenario then forks,
Also I cannot wait till they announce who will be cast as the Volturi!I am also curious about where they will be shooting the Volterra scenes.

I agree with Sevyn, They did a great job casting real native americans in the first movie, they should try to do the same for Leah and Emily, I have nothing against Disney Actors but think about it this way they attract a younger crowd, kids are going to be thinking this is a disney movie..parents are going to be upset..uhhh all the drama…

Oh my god! I am so glad they decided to keep Jacob on for New Moon! I am so happy! =D And I agree with Cladia. You bring Disney Characters into it and it’s going to give the wrong impresion. NOt that I(underline) have anything against them as well. But think, if you had someone like Zac Effron as Edward…I think I would be WAYYYYY upset. I didn’t want him turning Twilight into “Twilight Musical” -_-

I have to agree with you about the Disney actors. It isn’t that they aren’t good actors, but rather the tag-a-long audience and the expectation they bring with them. I wasn’t thinking in that respect before - I’m with ya’ll now!
I think Q. Kilcher would make a better Emily. She seems too gentle and looks to soft to be hard-edged Leah. I just think forward to Breaking Dawn when Leah goes in the Cullens house in dirty clothes and leafy hair chewing Bella out for torturing Jacob - I just can’t envision Q. doing that! LOL
I have seen the previews for ”Push” and I think Camilla Belle could be a bad-A Leah. Megan Fox could probably be edgy enough too, but Camilla looks way more indian.
