Go Twilight Forever!
January 18th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
The movie brought in FIVE TIMES what Summit spent to make it (and we haven’t even seen DVD sales yet!), and they STILL don’t want to give New Moon a bigger budget?
January 18th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
GOSH!!!! and no DVD sales yet!!
Way to go Twiglight!! =)
January 18th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Woo! I’m so proud :]
January 18th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
I find it ridiculous that Twilight has brought in over $303 million and Summit doesn’t want to raise the budget for New Moon. They clearly should have realized that despite deviations from the books, they’re still going to rake in a huge sum of money from the movies. Why not spend a little bit more and give the fans (and the reason they’re making this money in the first place) what they want and quite frankly, deserve.
I love Twilight dearly and I would hate for this franchise to experience what others such as the Pirates trilogy and Episodes 1 through 3 of Star Wars have experienced over the year.

YAY!!! I’ve been waiting for it to hit the $300m mark! Too bad Twilight’s been pulled out from the theaters
It would’ve reached $190m domestic if they gave it 3 more weeks.
The soundtrack’s been in the TOP 10 (chart 200) for 10 consecutive weeks! Wooohooooo!
@BETHANY:
What did the Pirates and Ep 1-3 franchise exprience????
January 18th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
This is FANTSTIC!!! Congrats to Steph and I think we should all be proud as the adoring fans! I saw Twilight 5 times in theaters and it was phamonial! I cannot wait until New Moon! What a success we have made Twilight everyone!

YAY I’M SO PROUD OF TWILIGHT ! I truely love these books and I’M HAPPY FOR STEPHENIE AND THE FANS !!!

I’m also upset that the movie is not in (most) theaters anymore. I think it could have set some more records - beating out “GHOST” for example. Although, I’m excited the DVD will be released in March, I wish Hollywood would not rush DVD releases and keep movies in theater release longer, 3 months. Art vs. money, oh well.

YEAH 300 MILLION! They should DEFINITELY raise the budget of New Moon now. I mean, this is their proof that it will do extremely well. Because who wants to see Jacob turn into a fake-o animated-like werewolf? I sure don’t. DVD’s out in only a couple of months! YAY!
January 18th, 2009 at 5:13 pm
That is so amazing & ridiculous. But I must say its so totally worth it. The books are amazing & the movie was great.
January 18th, 2009 at 5:23 pm
That is insane. The movie was eh. I’m dreading New Moon if the budgets the same . . . but Weitz can salvage it, I know he can! It won’t be so art-house with him directing.

Can I just take a moment to say how terribly sad I was to hear about Midnight Sun. I don’t know Stephenie was working on another book so naturally I was ECSTATIC to hear that. I went to her website and read about her passion for her beloved book series and I suddenly understood just how proud she was and then I read the news about the story being stolen and Stephenie’s pain over being robbed. I have to say I’m terribly sad there won’t be another book to gush over but after reading about her sadness over the ordeal I can’t even bring myself to read it just knowing she didn’t want the audience to read it in such a rough stage I couldn’t do it. I’m just so bummed that I’ll never know that side of the story. I have to admit that I’ll be saying a little prayer that someday her heart will soften for that story again. I know, I’m a silly girl, but I’m hopeful.

To shavei7 -
Pirates experienced a leveling off of excitement and expectations after the release of Dead Man’s Chest. Many people felt that there were two many plot lines twisted together and left hanging. Yes, the series was still successful, but it could have been better.
As to Star Wars…episodes 1 through 3 are essentially a joke. Most Star Wars fans dislike those three and wish Lucas would never have attempted to tell the beginnings of the saga.
My hope is that Summit raises the budget and that Weitz sticks a bit more to the original storyline. I loved Twilight, but I had to work very hard to hold the movie and the book as two separate entities in my mind.

I saw the movie 7 times but I went back for the awesome good parts, the restauant, the baseball game, Bella’s visit to Edward’s house, wincing and suffering through the bad parts. I really blame the director for allowing Kristen’s hospital and ballet studio scenes and Robert’s overacting at the greenhouse. The editor couldn’t have had much to work with to allow those scenes to stay in. I’m really looking forward to New Moon but the actors and the fans have the right to expect a higher standard than in Twilight. That said, I’ve already reserved my copy of the DVD.

ok why do people keep saying that twilight is out of theaters??? Umm it is totally still in theaters here in idaho!!! All of our theaters around here-and that is like four-are still playing twilight. I am confused!!
January 19th, 2009 at 1:46 am
Yeah I agree with Lynn on the Hospital scene assuming you mean the one at the end. Her reaction was just stupid. Yes, Bella would find it hard to understand but she’s not some gaping idiot.
I was just about to say it’s still in cinemas here but then I realised, of course it would be, it got released here later than in the states and what not. Its only been out for just over a month here.

Go twilight! And THAT DOESN’T EVEN INCLUDE THE NUMBERS FROM GERMANY!!!!!!
Please Summit people, I think we deserve a higher budget for New Moon (thank goodness for the new director).

Twilight is now in 2nd run theaters in Chicago at least. Too bad. They should keep movies in 1st run theaters longer. It could’ve totally made so much more money because there are still people who probably are just starting to read the books now.
They should learn from this and keep New Moon in theaters longer than Twilight.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:16 am
News flash, usually when a movie stops making much money they take it out of the main theaters. I am surprised it stayed in for so long…it was terrible. Almost so bad I couldnt finish it, but I did…in the hopes it would get better. Which it did not.
Also, I have lived in Idaho and it is usually behind a bit, plus with the Mormon population there I am sure that there are die-hard fans that are keeping the movie alive in theaters.

Wow! £21 and 20 pence of the foreign total is mine! I went four times…lol
January 20th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
YAY Twilight! <3
January 20th, 2009 at 9:57 pm
Hey, I just tallied up the foreign sales from Box Office Mojo - it says 305 million (as of Jan.20), but I tallied up the foreign sales and the total is
$324 million!
And, a lot of these sales dates were over a week old and Germany brought in 7 million this past weekend alone. Serious, serious cash. This movie is going to top out at the box office with about $335 million, and after DVD sales I bet it hits near $400 million. Brilliant.
