not too young I think, but not a good actress.

I like her. I think that she would make a good jane because she is a good enough actress to pull it off even if she doesn’t look exactly like how i pictured her. It could be a LOT worse (kristen chenoweth anyone?_

      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:25 am

sorry, but I just can’t see Dakota Fanning playing Jane. She just doesn’t have the ability to pass of a maniacal/evil vampire. Plus, i think she looks a little too young to play the part. I really wish they’d just stick with using less famous actors and actresses.

    6. maysie Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:35 am

She’s ok, I guess but isn’t Jane too small a role for Dakota? I rather they use an unknown/new actress…

    7. Tonya Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:36 am

She is a great actress! Did you see Hide and Seek and Secret Life of Bees? And she is 14 or 15, not too young.

    8. Nostalgicmiss Says:

I love Dakota Fanning and she’s a note worthy actress, but I kinda always saw Jodelle Ferland; Alissa from Silent Hill as Jane, she has that darker quality to her. Whereas Dakota is sweet and innocent looking.

Still; I am not complaining; I think it would work well LOL . . .

    9. Twicrack Addict Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:42 am

I’m excited about Dakota Fanning as Jane. I think she’s a great actress and it will be interesting to see how she takes on the challenge of being subtly menacing and intimidating.

    10. Kiirs Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:44 am

I don’t think she can pull it off.

There is yet ANOTHER Larry Carroll interview with Kristen posted this morning, where Kristen talks about New Moon, her confidence in Chris Weitz, Taylor’s buff body, etc.

NOOO! PLEASE NOT HER!! she is way too annoying, young, and just doesn’t have the look. Sorry I just really don’t like her.

    13. Indiesr Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 8:58 am

I love Dakota and think she can handle just about any role given to her. However, I think they should stay away from well-know actors and use fresh faces.

    14. Devon061381 Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:03 am

I am extremely excited at the prospect of Dakota doing Jane. She fits the part appearance-wise and I think she’s very talented. I have had her in the back of my mind as Jane since they announced New Moon was a go.

I’m not sure why people think she’s “too young” - did everyone read the same series I did? Because Jane and Alec are essentially still children, very young. Stephenie’s back story with how they were created says that Aro wanted to wait to change them until they were older (adults) but had to intervene early (lol). Jane and Alec may act and talk like adults because they’ve been around for centuries, but they still sound and look like children/early teens.

      Therefore, Dakota would be perfect.

    15. Tricia Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:03 am

I think Dakota can pull off Jane pretty well.
I mean, I always saw Jane as somewhat sweeter looking most of the time, and then she has that part of her that is totally not. Because it seems like Jane would be one of those people that you wouldn’t see as a threat until it was too late, and to pull that off she needs to not look completely scary.
As for her being too well known… I don’t think that she is a super big star. She is kinda still on the unknown side, because I know tons of people who have no clue who she is unless you mention her new movie Push.

    16. mouchy Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:07 am

The looks : ok but i am a bit concerned about her taking the role of Jane.
Because i have never seen her acting an “evil role” in the first place and second it must be that ” you know I’m no good but you still very like me” kinda attitude.

    17. Ashley Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:10 am

She is 14! She’s too young. A 14 year old Jane? I don’t think Dakota can act evil. She’s too cute. She’s almost an immortal child..

    18. pinky Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:15 am

Michelle williams!!!! would be better than Dakota. Just my opinion!!

    19. Lomesir Says:

Okay, who else here is not surprised in the least?

    20. Lomesir Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:21 am

Also, don’t know what all this talk about Dakota being “too young” is about, considering that Jane is 13.

    21. Hilda Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:30 am

So many of you are so picky! First of all just relax,Jane is only present for what 1 chapter. Dakota is young enough for the role and she really hasn’t worked much in the last few years. She is very talented whether you like her or not, that is your opinion, but she is talented.
She may even be a fan of the books, which wouldn’t surprise me at all. Giver her a chance! Stpo being so pessimistic!

    22. Since_im goin to_hell Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:31 am

I don’t know if that’s a good idea for her to play the role of jane… I imaged Jane more evil and Dakota doesn’t looks so evil to torture Edward

    23. Katy Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:31 am

She’s a great actress, but I’m not sure she can pull off the evil-ness.

    24. Tricia Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:40 am

      @ pinky:

Michelle Williams? Are you serious? lol
She’s like almost 30 years old! Jane is only like around 13.
I dunno about you but I’ve never seen a 30 year old look like a 13 year old in a movie.

    25. JenJen Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am

Hasn’t anyone seen the trailer of that new action adventure Dakota is in (I’ve seen it twice, both times before I saw Twilight)? She looks so much more mature and really gritty - not at all the wholesome little girl we’re used to seeing. I figure that if she could pull that off, why couldn’t she do Jane? Plus she’s an amazing actress anyways, which is where I think the main problem is because Summit would need to find A LOT more $$ in the budget to get her I’d imagine.

    26. mouchy Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am

You know how jane should look? Like Kristen dunst who played the little girl/vampire in Interview with a vampire from 1994. Just that look she had in her eyes when she did the part. But oh well Kristen is to old now.
Though Jodelle Furland in blond hair could probably do the trick as wel or Daveigh Elizabeth Chase ( she was the girl in the ring)but look at her these days.

    27. Sami Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:42 am

      shes not bitchy enough…..lol

    28. water lily Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:45 am

@ Devon061381: Thank you! That was my exact reaction. Why does everyone think she is too young? (If anything she’s too old)If you read the character bio section of the LEX, she and alex were very young and small. Dakota would be great, but she’s an A-lister and may cost too much. If casting her will hurt the budget, I’d rather have an unknown. If she is willing to take a small salary, for a minor role (like Jane)then I think we should be thrilled to have such a talent in our movie.

    29. Lucy Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:46 am

I think that Dakota’s perfect. She’s just the right age, considering that Jane is supposed to be around 13, so I don’t know what all this talk that Dakota is too old is about. She can pull off the creepy look, too. And, to top it all off, she’s a phenomenal actress who would attract more fans to see the movie.

    30. tori Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:51 am

Are they kidding? that is quite possibly the biggest miatake they have made a far, which is saying something. the whole story is based in a world of vampires an werewolves, an how are we the fans suppost to believe in the movie if we see all these actors who have been in countless things. for example when we see jane we shouldn’t be saying isn’t that the girl from… what should be registering in our thoughts is that is a crazy vampire who tortures people. Not a cute little girl from war of the worlds. all i am saying is if they keep using all these known actors the movie is going to become a joke because know one is going to believe the story. isn’t that what twilight is all about, a world within our own that is special an barely imaginable. casting should not be about getting the biggest names it should be about who can play the part to the best protrayal of the character. an if that happens to be a no name so be it. don’t ruin a good thing with a stupid mistake

    31. heather Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 9:55 am

I wish they’d find someone less well-known. Also, Dakota Fanning is cute, but she doesn’t have the “cherub” face that Stephenie describes Jane having.

      I hope this isn’t true. :/

    32. annda Says:

      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:08 am

i’m not crazy about her.. but hey! *opens hands palms open* i’ll give her a shot. You all remember how millions were screaming about Robert Pattinson, saying he couldn’t pull it off. I’d say he did prettty well. yeah, she’ll do.

    34. Swan Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:17 am

Wow. I love Dakota as an actress. She’s going to go far. I never pictured Jane like that but with a hair color change and some makeup…. I bet she could do it! Kristen already worked with Dakota in Cutlass.

    35. Kati Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:21 am

I was picturing her as Jane. I think she’ll do a GREAT job! She’s def not too young. I was under the impression from the story that Jane was young teen anyways.

    36. Brandi Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:32 am

Doesn’t everybody remember when they announced Kristen to play Bella and Rob to play Edward, everyone got on here and complained about how they didn’t like them, they weren’t good actors, they didn’t look like the part. Then everyone started loving them. Now there’s talk about Dakota Fanning playing Jane and just about everyone is already bashing her. You haven’t even given her a chance yet, just like with Kristen and Rob.

    37. Ariel Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:39 am

I think Dakota Fanning will be great. Not perfect, but great. She’s just the right age, she’s short, and she is small. However, my only concern is that she won’y be able to pull off being all evil-like being Jane and all. Jane is my favorite evil character, so I had hoped that they would make her as close to the image I had of her, and Dakota Fanning works wonderfully. I think that if she gets the role she’ll be great. She just needs to act evil.

    38. TooMuch Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 10:42 am

tori, do you think that every well known actor and actress shouldn’t be cast anymore then? Just because the audidence might recognize them from other films? It’s up to the ACTOR to convince viewers that they are whoever they’re playing.

I think people should go on imdb and look at some of the photos of Dakota from her new movie, Push. She’s not a cutesy little girl anymore.

    39. Aunie Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 11:36 am

I had pictured Dakota Fanning as Jane long before. Jane is supposed to be a child, not some 30 year old grown woman! I definitely think Dakota has the potential, she’s basically the one of the most mature teens I’ve ever seen. Plus her role in Hide and Seek was pretty spooky.

    40. Laura Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 11:43 am

Jane is supposed to look very young (pre-puberty), and from what I’ve seen recently Dakota actually looks older than her age. I also think it’s a bad idea because having such a well known actress in such a small role will take the attention off of where it should be. I agree w/ the people who want unknown actors in the roles, because 1) it helps save $$ for other important things (special effects) and 2) I like that the movies are now known for being the launching pad for young up and coming actors. I like her, but not as Jane.

    41. mel*nerd Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 11:56 am

ok…i don’t think she is necessarily too young for part but i think her acting up to now has been too childish for the character of jane. she IS the right age but she has to act like a maniacal little girl that has lived hundreds of years. she has always played the sweet child that everything centers on, rarely is there any depth to her characters. i just cannot see this working out well.

    42. Jennifer Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 11:58 am

Why would they choose Dakota Fanning? WHY?
Daveigh Chase (who played Samara in “The Ring”) would be a perfect candidate for Jane. She is very pretty… but has a malicious vibe about her. Maybe just because that movie scared the pants off me. But seriously, she is my pick. I only wish it mattered…

    43. claire Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I think Dakota Fanning would be perfect…she has those eyes that can be freaky!

I imagined someone like her for Jane while reading the books…

Can we say Children of the Corn???

    44. Heart Song Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Not too young but over rated. Putting a well know actress in the role will be distracting at best. While Jane is an important character, she is minor and should not overshadow the other players. Sure, it’s a hassle auditioning but I’m sure there is an equally appealing and perhaps more talented artist out there if they would take the time to look. They need to balance Jane with the person who is cast as Alec.

    45. Anilu Magloire Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I think DF is too big an actress for the role of Jane…
      I doubt she’ll take it.

    46. Dragonflyfoot Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:16 pm

Wow! I was SO excited when The first movie made so much money, even saw it 3 times myself to help out!LOL LOL,BUT now I am SO angry!I guess they made TOO much money, because we have to put up with some actress that isn’t even anything like JANE!!!Can’t we find someone that actaully needs this part?? Can we discover someone please??!! I am so sick of Dakota Fanning, she’s everywhere!! uggh! What were they thinking?!!!

    47. allisonlovesedward Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I think she would make a perfect Jane. Jane is supposed to look young. Dakota Fanning is a very talented and mature actress.

      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    49. Claudia Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:30 pm

wow so many people saying she doesn’t look scary enough (it reminds me of when everyone said the same thing about Rachelle for Victoria) well i remember her in “Hide and Seek” with brown hair and everything and she was very creepy in that role, I’m totally sure she can pull this off but Jodelle Ferland would be awesome for the part too…

    50. Krystol Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:55 pm

It’s funny, but when I thought of casting for New Moon, Dakota as Jane was the first thought that crept into my head. I think she is a very intense actress (Hello, have you seen her movies?) and she will be incredibly as the creepy pain-loving Jane.

    51. Laura Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Claudia I totally agree w/ you on Jodelle Ferland! She is Jane!

    52. Caleigh Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Dakota is okay for Jane. I think i need to see her ‘evil face’ first before i make up my mind. she’s gonna need that evil smirk prefected.

    53. Lydia Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:02 pm

I Hope Not! I hope its just some rumor!!
      I Despise her,
      She thinks she soo good!
in my opion in every movie i’ve seen you can tell that she’s trying to act,
and Not actually trying to be the charecter!
      Any way she’s not cute.

    54. Sakura-Miaka Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:06 pm

I had a feeling that she’d be considered. I have no doubt that Fanning is a great actress and that she can pull Jane off nicely. My problem is that she’s too well-known. She’d cost too much and her casting might just throw the balance off… I mean in Twilight we have all these indie actors, most of them are barely known and then you throw in an A-lister like Dakota Fanning… It just doesn’t feel right for me… Oh well, we’ll see….

    55. lovemesomecullens Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Dakota Fanning would be an amazing Jane! She’s an excellent actress and looks exactly how I pictured Jane! Even better than I pictured Jane. It would be great if they could get her on board!

    56. Morgan Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I agree with number 14, Devon061381. I think Dakota Fanning would be an amazing choice. She is an awesome actress and so what if she’s been in other movies. People still said “Isn’t that the guy from Harry Potter” and “Isn’t that the girl from Panic Room.” Doesn’t mean they weren’t good for the part. Also, like others pointed out, didn’t you read the back stories and Stephenie’s opinion of what Jane should look like? After all, it’s Stephenie’s vision. Not ours.

    57. Laura Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Stephenie’s description of Jane through Bella was: small about the size of Alice (Alice is supposed to be well under 5ft so Jane should be too), light brown hair cut short, from afar she couldn’t tell if she was a boy or a girl, and very young looking. That being said DF doesn’t really cover that description, she is going through a growth spurt right now and will be way to tall, plus she doesn’t look young enough she looks more mature than her actual age.
I’m going to repeat myself…it will screw up the movie if she is cast, it will waste millions of dollars for her pay requirements, that could be used for more important things. Summit, if they cast her, will definitely think they can slack on other things since they’ll have a “big name” to pull people in. I just want NM to be awesome, and I think casting her would be a step in the wrong direction.

    58. Ashley Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:30 pm

    59. Ashley Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:32 pm

oh, plus-jane isn’t supposed to be blonde-so it shows how much that writer knows-and its only one article.

    60. RenesmeeWeasley Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:36 pm

I agree with Laura. She is nothing like Stephenie’s description of Jane. I don’t think the movie would go over as good with her in it. Sorry, just MY opinion. I just don’t think Dakota could be as evil as Jane, think about the scene in the third book, when she tortures Bree, could Dakota do that? I don’t think so, but like I said, that’s just My opinion.

    61. beth Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:37 pm

if kirsten dunst was able to pull off a crazy little vampire girl in Interview w/ a vampire I think Dakota can too….she’s already worked with Summit in Push…so she might just be in New Moon.

    62. Angel Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:38 pm

HELL YES!!! If you’ve seen her more recent movies, you know she can handle it and that she’s been both a blonde and brunette on screen.

She’s not who I pictured in my head, but Jane’d be a hard one to cast precisely. She’s been suggested many a time on blogs and youtube BY FANS. It’d be cool if that’s where the idea came from… I’d be excited to see her pull it off. If Nikki Reed pulled off Rosalie (transformation and what not) Fanning can do Jane. :)

    63. Angel Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 1:41 pm

      Side note:
I think Summit might be considering casting some actors they’ve already worked with. Maybe Camilla Belle will make an appearance in future installments of our (:P) series. Maybe, maby not- they can’t do it too much. After all, Belle and Fanning will be in Push together (which actually looks good to me- I like sci-fi movies :) ).

I think shed be great, she was like 4 when she had her first real role, and now shes 14. She can be really creepy looking too, like in Hide and Seek. She has this face that can look really serious but pretty at the same time, so say yes. If not her, the should pick her sister Elle, because she was in the curiosu casse of Benjamin Button

      January 22nd, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Although my opinion doesn’t matter at all and we just have to live with casting choices, I agree Jodelle Ferland looks like the Jane that I pictured. However, just because they offered her the roll, it doesn’t mean that she will take it. I heard that she has to make a certain amount of money for any movie that she will do and I don’t know if they will offer that much to her. So, calm down everyone, even if she does get the roll, she is a good actress, I think she will be fine. If it makes you feel better look at her in Hide and Seek. I think she can pull off an evil look.

    69. Gigi Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 2:18 pm

OK. She’d be awesome but Jane is a brunette! Would it kill her to dye her hair? It’s not like she has to shave her head like she would have had to for My Sister’s Keeper had she not backed out.

Rosenberg does not understand how important each detail is to us fans! Why change her hair colour? It’s a detail that helps us create the mental pictures of the characters!

    70. Gigi Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 2:19 pm

I love Dakota Fanning and her work, she’s a brilliant actress. However I don’t see her as Jane. It’s not that she’s too young, in fact I think she might be a little old compared to how Stephanie described Jane in the books. But I get the feeling that if she did this, she’s only be doing it cause it’s the ‘next big thing’.

since when did people on here become experts on how much Dakota Fanning makes per film? who the heck even knows how much she makes, or how much summit is paying each actor. I think Dakota would be great, shes a great actress and shes famous for being in movies with great actors so im sure she has learned a great deal about acting, she can be super freaky (hide and seek anyone). I think they should cast whoever is perfect for the part and if it happens to be a well know actress than so be it.

Bleh, no no no no no!
If Dakota is cast as Jane, I’ll gouge my eyes out. That would be rediculous. I have nothing against the fact that she’s a well known actress, I don’t care if she’s well-known, I just don’t think she fits the part. There are a lot of short, blonde people in the acting business and I’m sure Dakota isn’t the best they can come up with for the part.

Well if the rumor comes out to be true then I’m excited, I think she can do a good Jane. She’s not too young Jane is supposed to be in the 12-15 age range. So I think she can pull it off. Besides Jane is said to have an Angelical face, not look evil. It’s only when she smiles that it looks creepy. The only problem is, who would play Alec.

    76. Kevin Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 2:46 pm

No No No No NO! Please, she is so overrated and not to mention way too sickly sweet to play Jane. Despite the fact that Jane’s young, I’d love to see someone more accomplished in the role. Perhaps, Kristen Bell. Heck, Summit might as well cast an unknown. They did largely with the Twilight cast and that worked wonders for them as the acting in Twilight far surpassed that of any other movie filled with Hollywood Teens (High School Musical take note)! Just not Dakota Fanning. It would be a crime if such a malevolent character in the book was passed to a graduate of the smiles and teeth school of acting :(

Eh, I have nothing against Dakota, but I just don’t see her as Jane. She could even dye her hair brunette, but still….I don’t know. I’m really not gonna throw a hissy if she does get cast. Why get all worked up over what you can’t control? After all, we all have our own visions of the characters and imaginations when we read the books, so they can’t please everyone. Like, Kristin and Rob aren’t my Bella and Edward when I read the books. It has nothing to do with their acting abilities or anything. But yeah. Though Dakota isn’t my Jane….I’m not going to complain.

Everyone is so picky. It is a movie, based on these wonderful books that everyone pictures a little differently when they read. It would be impossible to find actors and actresses that are perfect for the parts. I think, seeing as DF is a fantastic actress she should be able to pull jane off flawlessly.

I have nothing against Dakota. She’s a great actress. But if it were up to me, she wouldn’t be Jane. I don’t know what people are saying about her being too young; to me, if anything, she’s too old.

But that’s not the reason I don’t want Dakota. I liked the idea of keeping the cast as relatively smaller actors. Dakota has it all already. I bet they could find someone even better if they looked away from mainstream Hollywood.

I’m not convinced… But maybe it’s just that in general i think incredibly poorly of Dakota Fanning and every movie i’ve seen that shes been in, i’ve absolutey hated the way she portrayed her character, but… considering everything else i disliked about the movie… it couldn’t make that much difference.

    92. heather Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Let me just say again, that I really hope this isn’t true. I disagree that Dakota has the right look and the right age.

Jane is described as “androgynous”, which to me denotes pre-pubescent… a.k.a. no more than 12 years old. Jane also appears in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. They will have to find someone rather young who won’t grow up too much during the filming… by the time they get to Breaking Dawn (if they do, Dakota will be 16 most likely).

In a practical sense it doesn’t work. Never mind my personal feelings about how Dakota doesn’t look the part AT ALL. Michelle Williams is definitely too old, but they need to find a child actor with the same kind of face as her… round, innocent, cherubic.

    95. Laura Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 4:16 pm

It really doesn’t take a genius to figure out her asking price is way more than the budget can afford to lose, she’s been in big movies since she was like 6yrs old, and your $$ goes up after every big movie. So we’re really not just talking out of our bums when we say that. And no she’s not in the age range either, Jane is supposed to look around 12, and DF looks older everytime I see her (since she is the age where you have all your major growth spurts). So we are allowed to bash this rumor because it’s not like Summit and the director/producer didn’t mess some stuff up on TW (eventhough I loved the movie, there were some bad things), and now they’re rushing this movie so the writers and casting agents have to scramble to catch up, which would make any fan worried that during this rush they’ll make a quick decision that might screw the series. This idea is exactly the kind of bad decision I’m talking about, they’re thinking of bringing her on because she’s well known and will bring her own fanbase, but you need to step back and think about what complications it may bring (like the main characters being over shadowed by a character who in all honesty should only be in the movie for 10mins).

    104. ReturnedSecrets Says:

My opinion…I totally saw this coming. It makes sense because she’s a seasoned actor, not overly popular, definitely not A-List(really, people?) and has been in more indie films in the last few years, so yes, she is a good choice. She is not too big of an actor for this role, she’s just right and it would be awesome for her resume. I honestly believe she could pull off Jane and she is the perfect age. I don’t know what book a lot of you read but she is neither too young or too old. Just because she somtimes looks older in her every day life or in Push (also a Summit film) doesn’t mean she will look too old for the role. No make-up, different hair and she’s there. She also has stuble enough features that finding someone to play Alex won’t be difficult.

    105. Jane R Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 4:45 pm

What I don’t understand is why everyone is making pointless comments about her hair color. It’s Hollywood, actors dye their hair all the time. Move on to complain about something else now OK?

As for Dakota herself I really don’t see her as Jane, she’s getting to old for the part. Jodelle Ferland isn’t getting any younger either. I looked at her most recent pictures.

The problem with this situation is by the time they get to Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (If they make the final book into a movie at all) The actress they choose for the part of Jane will be too old. At the age of 11+ is when you start growing like a maniac as we’ve already seen. Either way they’re gonna end up with tho different Jane’s for the series.

I think that Dakota would not be right for the part.

      I have a couple reasons:

      1. She’s too young.
I don’t believe that she has had enough life experience to do a role like that. Jane is a very vindictive person who practiced witchcraft (or what humans would catagorize it as) when she was human. She has this aura about her that is like a small package of malice and people could probably get an inkling of her power.

      2. She does not look the part.
Yes Jane is described as small. However, people forget that she has Italian like features –the dark hair, olive undertones in her skin, etc. She was described as a sort of dark Rosalie. I mean I don’t think someone that young could really pull of that kind of beauty.

I had atleast one more, but well I got distracted and then forgot.

Oh well. I checked on IMDB and it didn’t have any current projects listed, so I don’t know.

    125. Kizmet Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Lenay, Leah Clearwater is not in the New Moon movie script. So they won’t be auditioning that part at all until Eclipse.

    126. Kyra Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Dakota Fanning would be perfect, I think.
She’s a pretty good actress and I could see her playing the part well … she seems to have grown up a lot in the last few years and i doubt she would mind a little bit of bronzer and a wig for an awesome role like Jane. no child is going to have enough life experience to play someone evil like Jane, that’s just ridiculous. Jane is supposed to be a child, also, correct? So … why not?
Someone else will probably get it, anyways, has anyone thought maybe the media (E, TMZ, etc) MAKES UP these stories and their “true sources” just to GET YOU TO READ THEM? Think about the headline of the story, if it seems ridiculous, it’s probably fake, so don’t give them the glory of a hit and waste your time freaking out about silly things.

Are we going to go through this everytime somebody is “allegedly” cast for a role in the movie? How do you know that Dakota can’t pull of evil? It’s called acting. If she’s a good enough actress she can do the role. Just because you don’t “see” her as the character doesn’t mean she shouldn’t play the role. Her job will be to convince you that she IS Jane, whether you wanted her to be the part or not. I didn’t think Heath Ledger(RIP) could pull off the Joker, but boy did he prove me wrong. She looked pretty tall to me, but I could be wrong. My only worry is that the last time I saw Dakota, it looked like she had a growth sprout(puberty). But, whatever there going to use to make Taylor look tall, they could use to make Dakota look short. That’s if she’s even the one cast.

I was honestly suspecting somebody like Abigail Breslin or an unknown.

I still say Jodelle Ferland or Ariel Winter.
Jodelle was Alyssa in Silent Hill and Ariel Winter was the creepy asthmatic kid in One Missed Call.

They are both the right age, bit sweet looking but with a major evil twist to them!!!

I think Dakota is awesome; and really I’m not completely against it; it’s just NM doesn’t have a huge budget and they keep talking to all these big names; and it cuts even more into the tiny ass budget Summit has allotted!

Okay. I’m torn. I’ve only seen Dakota in War of the Worlds and she was pretty good, even though I didn’t really like the movie. I don’t think that her age should matter too much. Jane just looks young that’s it. A fourteen could still be considered a child (especially from Bella’s POV since she’s 18). I personally always thought tht Jane had dark skin and dark hair, so I guess I should go read that part again. But I agree with the person who said she would be much better than Kristin C. But I also feel that she’s a little too well known and the girl from Silent Hill might be a better choice since as far as I know it’s the only big project she’s done. Though it would be very interesting to see Dakota play an evil person (or vampire) for once. Every actor needs the experience of playing a vampire

I do like Dakota Fanning and think she’s a great actress, but I can’t see her as Jane. I thought Jane was supposed to be TINY and look really young. Dakota’s too tall for the role. Or at least that’s my first reaction. I’m sure she would totally do an amazing job at acting the role though, she’s very talented and very good at her craft.

First of all–WHY THE HECK would Summit try to ruin New Moon on pupose?!?!?!? Tell me your logic. They wouldn’t want to get less money off of it.

Second–YES Jane is that young…YES they can dye her hair brown…YES she can act…

Third–Those of you who say that she’s too innocent obviously haven’t seen some of her movies…

Fourth–SHE IS NOT DISNEY!!! What is WRONG w/ you “OHH IT HAS TO BE PERFECT” fangirls?!?!?! Seriously…THIS is why so many people despise us Twilight fans! Yes, Vanessa would have sucked, but come ON it wouldn’t have ruined the entire movie…

Fifth–I THINK she’d be perfect…You guys who act like this is the end of the world because no one wants her should realize that not everyone hates her!

Some of the whiney Twilight fangirls are REALLY getting on my nerves…

If you’re a good actor/actress, you can play any role well. Yes, Dakota Fanning is not known for playing ‘evil’ roles, yet how difficult is it to act pissed off? And in regards to her age, she’s only two years younger than Taylor. Gain some perspective, people. Just because you weren’t chosen to play Jane doesn’t mean you have to dog on whoever is.

Jane and Alec are children however they speak like an adult for over and over centuries.. Dakota is only friggid 14 and learnin a lot about acting! 168. Keri Lynn Says:
      January 22nd, 2009 at 11:55 pm

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned, there are a lot of comments to go through, but the main issue with her age would not be if she is too young but the fact that she is young and would age visibly during the filming of the movies. She is 14, almost fifteen. How many people look the same as they did when they were that age? I’m 18 and I look nothing like I did when I was 14/15. Unless they film all of the Jane scenes concurrently, it is almost certain that an aging will occur and be visible to the audience.
I have nothing against Dakota Fanning, I think she is a really great actress, and while she’s nothing like I pictured I’m sure she’d be amazing. Having said that I think that she is too young for the part simply because she will age and that will be wrong for the part. My stance on all of the actor (playing vampires)n is that they need to find someone that is done or almost completely done with the aging process so that there will be no issues with that.

Just to set the record straight Jane is described in New Moon as:
“At first I thought it was a young boy. The newcomer was as tiny as Alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak - which was darker, almost black - was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The wide-eyed, full-lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises…
Jane spoke again, her childish voice a monotone…
She laughed - the sound sparkled with delight like a baby’s cooing…
Jane smiled; the expression made her look like an angelic child…
I looked at Jane, too, and she no longer smiled. She glared at me, her jaw clenched with the intensity of her focus…
Jane hissed in frustration, leaning forward like she was preparing to spring…
Jane’s upper lip curled back over her teeth as she continued to glare at me.”
Personally I don’t like Dakota Fanning as Jane, but based on Stephenie’s description of her in New Moon she could definitely pull off the part. I just hope if she gets picked she’ll be capable of impressing us all with her amazing Jane-like skills! :]

Okay she worked with summit before but have they or Chris Weitz or Stephenie ever seen her giving an impression of how she would act as Jane?
ROb and Kristen had to audition hard to let that show en with the role of Jane they don’t even consider anyone else giving it a try. How do they know dakota is the best actress for Jane if they haven’t seen anyone trying to act the part.

As soon as I heard on the radio that they were in negotiations for her to play Jane I was like “OMG!!!” I couldn’t imagine who they would get to play Jane but after they said Dakota’s name it instantly clicked for me. January 23rd, 2009 at 10:13 am

NOooooooo….That will ruin the movie in my eyes. Too many well-known actors take away from the overall consistency of the book.

Okay, maybe I am wrong here, but I ALWAYS pictured Janes as black…or at least dark skinned. Even in the book it says that:

“At first I thought it was a young boy. The newcomer was as tiny as Alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak- which was darker, almost black- was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The wide-eyed, full-lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises.” -New Moon.

…So, I imagined Jane as a child, with short, cropped hair and a darker skin tone. Seeing Jane as a blond, bubbly person(Dakota always seems bubbly or innocent in her roles) would be a MAJOR dissapointment.

Aren’t there other young actress out there who haven’t been in every movie known to man who might better for it??? It’s like they chose her b/c she is an easy choice but not neccessarily the right one? That’s my take on it. This annoys me and I hope they can’t afford her and are forced to choose someone fresh.

I agree w/ you Heather. I also feel it’s a choice they’re making because they’re in a rush to cast the film, and they also see it as “Woo hoo…this will get us all kinds of free publicity!”. I think eventhough Dakota may have popped into your mind it doesn’t mean she’s right. Because honestly, while reading TW (before any movie talk started) did you really picture Kristen and Rob as Bella and Edward? There should be an up and comer for Jane, like I said before, if they do the movie right Jane should only be it for 10mins max, so it’s not reasonable to have that big of a star playing her.

    186. Jenna Says:

No no no no no. Dakota Fanning? She’s good in cute little kid movies, like Dreamer(I think that’s what it was called?), but her being Jane just doesn’t fit into my train of thoughts. I personally think that finding new actors/unknown actors gives the characters their own unique faces. I don’t have anything against Dakota Fanning, she is a good actor, but its just not her type of role, in my opinion. She is too young, sorry to say.. Again, my opinion entirely.

I think Dakota Fanning would be alright. I mean she’s not too young and she’s got the facial features. Jane is SUPPOSED to look young and innocent - while she’s the exact opposite. Dakota’s got that sweet little kid look while not being too young and with the vampire make-up she’ll look less like herself. I think she’d do a pretty good job of portraying Jane, as long as she doesn’t see it like her other roles (being a good, normal kid) and knows how to bring out Jane’s hidden sinister soul.

Rob and the rest of the cast went trough audition before they got the role. Mmm I seriously cannot see her as Jane! I picture jane as being a blonde but not too blonde and Dakota Fanning is a total blonde! I think that she’s way to sweet for the role also. Another thing is that she is too old! Jane is like 11, 12, or 13! I also don’t think that they should choose some one that is that big of a star. They should choose someone whose career is just now blooming like the rest of the cast’s. If they need to hire someone “famous” maybe they could do like Abigail what’s-her-face. Not saying that they will, but she’s the right age and i think that she could maybe pull it off. But, thats just my opinion…

NO, NO, NO. Has anyone see Jodelle Ferland? Has anyone seen her as “Jane Voluri” on the MySpace page? First of all, Jane and Alec were 13 when they were changed. The Volturi wanted to wait till they were older but they were forced to do it sooner. Read the books!! As much as I adore Dakota Fanning I do not see her as Jane. The first time as I saw Jodelle’s “Jane” on myspace, she is exactly what I pictured in my head while reading the books. Someone PLEASEEEEEE take a good look at Jodelle before you make a decision!!!

I think people are freaking out too much… I mean, seriously, Jane isn’t THAT big of a part. I can understand people freaking out about the Taylor/Copon thing (i did too :-) ) but this isn’t that bad. Dakota might actually be okay…

How can people think that she’s too young? If she’s 14 or 15 that means she’s of my age ’cause I’m soon to be 15.And I am not too young.

hhhmmmmm. being a huge twilight fan i was skeptical about Dakota playing Jane and even pounded my head in to the keyboard when i read there was rumors of it. but after doing a little research and looking at some pics, I’ve decided she might be able to pull it off. go look at her in her new movie Push and combine it with Hide and Seek and i defy you to tell me she cant pull it off, she’s not a little innocent girl anymore and is the perfect age and a brilliantly talented actor. her role would not be a huge one so her well know face would not pose that much of a problem. although i pictured Jane looking a lot like Jodelle Ferland i think Dakota could pull it off. calm down everybody. lol.

Skandar Keynes would make a good Alec. and for all ye of little faith go to this link for a bad ass pic of Dakota’s wild side.

i agree with the fans who dont see her as Jane.
she is pretty much the exact opposite of the Jane in the twilight series who had dark skin (almost black) and brown hair.
& i hardly see how dakota can terrify you from just smiling as jane did to bella.
altho she’s an amazing actress,i think Jodelle Ferland would be a much better choice.

I DO NOT THINK SHE SHOULD PLAY JANE!!! I DO NOT THINK SHE WILL DO A GOOD JOB OR BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE ROLE! SHE DOSEN’T HAVE THE RIGHT LOOK OR THE RIGHT ATTITUDE TO PLAY JANE! I THINK THE CASTING DIRECTORS SHOULD KEEP LOOKING!!

In this day and age of movies with the make up and special effects and HAIR DYE, people can be made to look a little different, i mean look at Nikki Reed she didn’t origianlly look like Rosalie did she, she was made to look like her. Dakota may be blonde at the moment but half and hour at a salon and she will have dark enough hair to satisfy everyone, and the thoughts about how she would be to tall, look at Ashley Greene i mean Alice is supposed to be under 5 foot tall but Ashley is taller and she did a great job.

What i am saying is it is more about the acting talent and Dakota Fanning is a very talented actress who i am sure can ditch the happy go lucky look that lots of you seem to think that she can’t i mean it is called acting and i have heard she can act, that is my opinion……

First, say Jane’s brothers name right-

Alec- Not Alex. (my son’s name is Alek and I hate when he is refered to as Alex.)

2 Dakota is a great actress, she’s good at “nice girl” roles. (Ever see Uptown Girls with Brittany Murphy?)

She may be able to pull off calm Jane, she’s young enough, and she’s very pretty, She definatly has some Volturi about her but I think they will have to do quite abit with her in Post production to make her seem menacing enough.

Lets just wait it out. They will decide who they feel is right for the role. (They did a good job with edward and Jacob, am I right?)

We couldnt stop their choice if they chose Dakota or Not, New Moon, reguardless, we will all see with or without her.

      I cant wait, Can you?

hi, i would just like to say that dakota fanning would not do the part its service. I personally imagined , this is gonna sound wierd , but i imagined a human version of “mirage” from the incredibles. haha if they could capture her arrogant features physically in a child (not like dakota fanning)it wouls be perfect. EVERYONE referring to “hide and seek” c’mon that movie was stupid and she did not convince me ONE BIT! i think daveigh , jodelle, or bella thorne would be good. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4hHxsWDQj4g/SKA7q9Wv4fI/AAAAAAAAAhg/m_OyYWR2DFk/s320/bella_thorne_1172682966.jpghttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4hHxsWDQj4g/SKA7q9Wv4fI/AAAAAAAAAhg/m_OyYWR2DFk/s320/bella_thorne_1172682966.jpg
