    Twilight Saga News

    By Twilight_News | February 5, 2009

THE PARTHENON It looks like the movie is inspiring people to pick up the novels, at least at one college campus.

We’ve been noticing a lot of new traffic to the blog and forum (waves hi to the new comers!). We were wondering, when did you first get into Twilight?

2007 but I somehow hadn’t heard anything when Eclipse came out.
I didn’t start reading them until Thanksgiving.
But since then I’ve been hooked!

I’m got spellbound by Twilight in mid-2006.

I had to wait for so long for New Moon. *Sighed. Good old times.

2008, before all hype for Breaking Dawn. I had heard about the series earlier but for some reason didn’t start reading. I am so glad I waited…when I started reading, I was immediately hooked! Couldn’t put the books down. I read the books 2x before Breaking Dawn came out. I was so into the series that I would not have been able to wait a year between the books! I am not a tween, I am a mom of teenagers and hadn’t read a book in years! But thanks to Stephenie and the Twilight series, I am now reading all the time. To all those in the media who say this is a series only for tweens - you have no idea what you are talking about!

I remember the exact day I started reading Twilight: April 27, 2007, the day before my Junior Prom. My reading put me a few hours behind on getting ready.
A friend of mine had been bugging me to read it and I’d had her copy of it a week or two before I started reading it. I’d been putting it off because the way she described it didn’t interest me at all. I wish she’d made me read it sooner, but I’m glad she got around to it eventually. Within a month(to the day) I’d read Twilight and New Moon three times each.

      it’s a shame but really, November 30, 2008. It’s the day I saw the movie. I admit it, I’m a late-Twilight-bloomer. But i guess there’s no late-thing with Twilight.

I read Twilight in January 2006–the 8 months between January 2006 and the New Moon release were the longest 8 months of my LIFE!

Someone gave me Twilight because I said I was bored during my Advanced Math class Junior year of High School (’07) and I had it finished by the next morning. Then I spent the rest of the day trying to come up with a plan to get out of work and drive to the bookstore to buy New Moon…it was kind of ridiculous… :)

But I am a student at the University of Iowa and I have seen quite a few people carrying around various books of the Twilight series. More than I thought I would see, so that made me really happy! I was worried that they weren’t ‘collegiate’ enough… :)

    11. SK Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 9:37 am

I started reading Twilight in 2006.

I had such a hard time finding New Moon because it wasn’t popular then and only Borders sold a few copies.

But that feeling was great, when it was almost exclusive.

    12. Rahela Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 9:55 am

OMG. I remember waiting for New Moon. My friends and I had finished Twilight and when we found out about the sequel we were so impatient. Like the more recent Twilighters, especially the post-BD ones, have no idea what it was like to be waiting for the NM, E and BD. I remember when I read each book the first time I would become to impatient to see if Bella’s a vampire at the end. Then I’d have to wait a year to see if it would happen in the next book. I had 3 years of waiting to see if Bella would be a vampire. And I’m darn proud of that. Most of my friends picked up the books between 2007 and 2009, so I have like nobody that I can be like “Remember the killer wait from Twi to NM?”.

I didn’t become mega-obsessed until Eclipse came out, and that was amplified when BD came out. I remember my friend was like “Hey Rachel, there’s going to be an Eclipse books signing, wanna go?”. And I was like “Uh… sure, I guess. I like that author.” And we got there 4 hrs early and were the 2nd group there. Now people camp out for these kinds of events. It’s amazing how this phenomenon has grown.

    13. Sandy Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 9:57 am

I was given copies to borrow right after NM came out, so I had the long wait between them and EC and BD. I remember after reading both TW and NM, I went back to TW and started to reread again. I have NEVER done that with another book!

    14. Trina Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 10:02 am

I’d never even heard of Twilight until early 2008. MTV was hyping it up, and I saw a teaser. It seemed to me like it wasn’t worth the hype. Then it started popping up w/ my friends and my roommate bought the book. I bought Twilight in the spring, but didn’t read it until October. (In my defense I had a bookcase full of books I was reading!) I read all 4 books back to back before the movie came out. I wish I knew about this sooner, I’m a huge Twi-nerd!

I got into it in late 2007 into early 2008… I think I Actually got Twilight for Chrsitmas in 2007. After I read Twilight I went through the books in about 2 weeks, and the wait for breaking Dawn was Agony. I also Followed the twilight movie hype fro when they started filming :)

Wow… hmmm i think….. i started reading it shortly after New Moon was released. Because i remember seeing both book on the shelves and realizing!! oh! there from the same author, well wait a minute, New Moon its a sequel.. hmmmm..*reads back summary* its about vampires… hmmm it might be interesting.. that was a fond memory. hahah i wasn’t expecting the book to be much

    17. Kim Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 10:31 am

I read Twilight two days after it was released for the first time. I’d read about it in a small magazine ad and thought it looked interesting. I began reading it around 9 am that day and finished it at 11 pm that night! I’ve never–not since then and not before-done that before, I have the world’s shortest attention span! So it’s been really interesting to see the series grow and to see how Steph progresses in her writing. I lent my copy of Twilight to my sister a couple of weeks after I’d read it (it was horrible to be a part from it!!) and she was immediatly hooked. She and I were just talking about it the other day and we were saying how funny it is that she and I seemed to be the only ones in the world who knew about this book for so long and then we went to the Eclipse signing and there were over two thousand people there! It was a really big shock, because by then we didn’t even have a director attached to the movie! There was no Robert to be drooling over (not like we’re drooling over him now)! But I feel really thankful that I got into the series so early on and to be able to look back at the times when I would mention the books to someone and they’d be like “what?” and now everybody and their mother has read them so it’s not my little secret anymore. But that’s okay, I can still pretend. :)

the only thing that annoyed me was that people where all ‘ew! vampires?! why you reading that?!’ and then we see rob in the trailer during commercials and then it’s like ‘OMG, have you heard about Twilight?!’ :@ people frustrate me sometimes.

I’m borderline 2005-2006. I bought Twilight for a bus trip down to Tennessee to see my brother right before my birthday, which is January 15th. So I think I bought it a week or so before that. I saw some girls in my health class who had it under their desks, and there was no hype, just a few girls reading it. So I picked it up and the rest is history. Sweet, sparkling history.

I’m a new convert. I first started reading the books in September 2008. I got the first chapter of Twilight free with a magazine and it made me interested so I went out and bought the whole book.
After that I was completely hooked and read the whole series in a week. The three month wait until the movie came out in the UK was the longest wait of my entire life so I have no idea how people waited for New Moon and Eclipse to come out.

    37. Kris Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

I saw the books at Barnes & Noble last summer before BD came out and thought it would be something I like but didn’t do anything then. Forgot about them until someone at work asked if I had read them yet and I told her no but I was thinking of asking for them for Christmas. Well I got Twilight and New Moon but didn’t even start reading them until Jan 09. I ordered the other 2 books was trying to save money is why I ordered them instead of getting them in the store. BIG MISTAKE!! So while I was waiting I came home from work one day and told my husband that we were going to the movies to see Twilight. Of course he hadn’t heard of it and wanted to know what the movie was about. All I said was a vampire and a girl! I didn’t want to go into detail - I just wanted to see the movie to hopefully simmer my growing obsession!! I enjoyed the movie and my obsession is now a FULL runaway fire!! And to top that off I am not even a young adult (in age anyway!). I have 2 teenage daughters that are not finished the books so I don’t know if they will be as bad as me. Right now they just call me a dork or OCD! And I just call them both Bella!!

    38. Chelsea Says:
      February 5th, 2009 at 4:22 pm

2005 YES!!!! And I feel like I have a much deeper respect and adoration for Edward, Bella, and Stephenie because of it! Gosh, the beginnings of this fandom were so adorably awkward. We grew really fast, though.

But basically, the cover mixed with a synopsis in a Borders newsletter made my heart stop, and then the book sent my heart through a series of wild palpitations involving Bella’s dry wit sending me into giggle fits, Edward’s absolutely gorgeous profession of love throughout the middle of the book, and the delightful creep of James. Been hooked ever since.

I remember seeing an ad for Twilight in a magazine back in 2005 after it had just been released. About a month later, I saw it in my library and decided to read. I absolutely loved it, but didn’t think much else about it until the next year when I met someone else who had read it. She informed me that there was a sequel coming out in like two weeks. I freaked. Waiting for Eclipse was SOOOOOOO hard after that 2 week wait…

It sort of bothers me that I technically fall under the “Late 2008/2009. Late Bloomer. Interested because of the movie”. I didn’t even know that the movie was related to those “apple books” everyone was carrying.

It was actually my boyfriend’s little sister that helped me get into it. She didn’t have the 1st so I went to the library. Of the 498 copies in Toronto, it was capped off at 1999 people on the wait-list! Even E-books and audio books had wait-lists! So my boyfriend, who doesn’t read and makes fun of anything I like and/or that is popular, bought me the book for Christmas. Big mistake. I read it in two days and told my parents that if we didn’t buy the next one on our way up to visit relatives I would go stark raving mad and be a miserable shit.

That’s right, I, a then 18 yr old would use the temper-tantrum card to read more Twilight. I was that desperate. Needless to say I finished the series and watched the movie in just over a week.

For me, it was early 2007, like I think I bought them (Twi and NM) in Feb but I read them over March Break (Okay, read them both twice over the first 2 or 3 days of it lol). My friend got me hooked on them:) I still chose 2006 though since it was so close to then and it wasn’t because of the Eclipse Prom that I read them, and I didn’t catch any fever about it lol, my friend did though. We live in Toronto though (Canada) which is why we never went:(.

When I noticed that it was the second book I went to the Librarian and asked for the first. They didn’t have it.
Then there was the Dilema. Take it or Leave it. I didn’t like to read out of order, but the summary was so compelling. I wanted to know what happened. So I read it.
Then Came Eclipse (found it in Walmart)
And then I read Twilight. Yeah I went way out of order. (found that in walmart)

And it was actually my current room mates that got me interested in it - they kept telling me how I should seriously read them. I didn’t get interested in seeing the movie til I actually read Twilight and fell in love.

I heard about it summer 2007 - just before Eclipse came out. I heard about it in Italy from my cousin and then searched all around Tuscany (no kidding- we musts have been to 50 bookstores before I finally found one) until I could get my hands on one. I read Twilight in 1-and-a-half days, New Moon in three (because Eddy wasn’t there!), Eclipse in three (because my parents kept making me put it down to look at the stupid scenery) and Breaking Dawn in six-and-a-half hours. :-D
I actually got Eclipse before it came out. Some bookstore owner in a tiny little town in Wyoming (I was on vacation - I’m a California girl :-D ) didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to be out yet, so she sold it to me! Happiest day of my life, <3

She said it was really good and part three was going to come out. Then before thanksgiving Break, I recognized the apple cover at my library. I remembered my friend telling about it so i checked it out. I finished the book in two days, I was HOOKED!!! I tried requesting books 2 and 3 but the waiting list was over 100 requests long! My friend had all the books and she let me borrow them, thank god!! Later on, my bf bought me my own collection :)

I read twilight in 2006. I was randomly selecting books in the library when I saw twilight. I like to think of it as fate because out of the 100s of books there, I chose twilight. Must be the cover that caught my attention. I am an “almost-original” fan, since I picked up the book just a few months after 2005.

oh i have one more experience to add. i remember when i first read it in 2005 (not many people knew about it then), some people used to make fun of me saying things like “you’re not even goth or emo, why are you reading a vamp book?” when i told them what it was about. now, its sooo big, and those same people are hooked too.
      haha.
i bet others can relate to this also.

This is so fun reading how everyone got into this saga. I read Twilight and New Moon this past summer, 2008. I cam across Twilight by accident and am so, so glad I did. I needed a new book to read at my cabin and saw Twilight at Target. The cover looked cool, so I read the back and read that a girl falls in love with a vampire. Cool! I’ve always thought that vampires were sexy, so I bought it. I have been in love with these books ever since. I saw the movie and then read the other two books. I’m feeling like I don’t know what to do with myself now that I’m done with BD. :-( Since all of this I can happily say that I have OTD (obsessive Twilight Disorder). I’ve seen the move 5 times and love reading the info. on this website. And I’m proud to admit that I’m in my early 30’s, so it isn’t just for teenagers. :-)

:( that greatly disappoints me how little the percent is for old timers! i always just tell people i caught on “a little before new moon came out” (aka the good old days) wow, 2006? that seems like a long time ago. i caught on becuz i was at a book store and my sister said her friend read it and loved it…but i called it stupid and laughed out loud when i read the back cover, but once i started reading it i was like “harry who???”
But the sudden outburst of fans is something i dont like that much. sure, its great that people are reading it NOW, but what about years ago when i begged my friends (who all now claim to be the biggest fans) to read it just so i would have someone to talk to about it?!? it just seems like now everyone who hasnt read it hates it and naturally assumes im a newb to the books and just read it because of the movie and it was “cool”

My neighbor gave me Twilight to read 2 weeks ago. I read it within 24 hours and had to have the next one…..same story with New Moon. I read all 4 books within a week and then the partial of Midnight Sun. I haven’t seen the movie b/c it’s not showing at my theater now. I”m waitinng for the DVD. Needless to say, I am addicted and am soooo very sad that Stephenie feels that she is finished with the Vampire world. I swear. I’m having dreams about the Cullens. Of course, I don’t tell my husband or he would really think I’m a freak.

      @Kelley and Melanie Cullen,
haha, good to see other people who know how I felt.

I feel a little guilty for thinking that the hype surrounding the Twilight saga is too overwhelming and not a very good experience.

It’s no longer something special that only you and a few people know about.

I can still remembered that after reading twilight and new moon, I searched the web for anything related to it.

Edward, Bella and the other fictional characters are so dear to me, since they stayed fictional. Imagination is very powerful.

I do support the movie though, but that wasn’t as good as original characters and books. Now I can’t imagine the ‘real’ Edward without thinking about Pattinson, (which is not very good).

I came across Twighlight early 2008. Really late, I must admit. But to my excuse: I’m 28 soon and nearly never watch TV or listen to the radio. So how could I possibly have realised that it existed. There was no big hype about it in Germany, where I live. There was this super boring concert in one of our shopping malls one staurday evening in January and I went there with a friend who had a crush on the lead singer. While she was totally occupied by his awful singing, I went window shopping at my favourite bookstore and there they were: Twighlight, New Moon and Eclipse. Next Monday I went there again (on Sundays shops are closed in Germany)to have a look at them. I was not convinced so I bought different books. Finally I was so curious that I orderd Twighlight and read through it within ours. I immediately went to town to buy the rest. After having finished them I bought BD in English, sinc it was not available in German at that time. But now it is and I will buy it tommorow.I have watched the Twighlight movie twice and already instructed my boyfriend to buy it for me. He is in the US at the moment and there it will be released about two months earlier than in Germany.
When I watched for the first time, I was a little disappointed by their choice of Edward. At least, I thought, they could have shaved Robert Pattisons arms, couldn’t they? But he’s a great actor. And able to sing. So forget the hair …

I started reading twilight July 2008, the first time I ever heard of Edward Cullen was at my highschool and so many people were talking about him, I had thought he was some new student at my school:P … I felt such a idiot after I figured out he wasn’t some amazingly gorgeous new student… and let me tell you it took me a while to figure it out.. it was when my friend told me she thinks Edward Cullen was the ideal guy for her and she wished that he was real, when I told her that he was and went to my school, she just laughed and laughed*sigh* thats when she told me it’s a book about vampires. After that I bought the book to see what the hype was about and I finished it in a day, the next day I bought New Moon and finished it also in a day and then went bought Eclipse and finished it again in a day, then I waited 3 weeks till Breaking Dawn came out.. now I probably read the books 80 times(not even joking I know Twilight and New Moon of by heart)…yeesh I know… but I was very bored in the summer.. now Im like completley obsessed with the series<3 I also convinced my english teacher to read it to my class(we went and saw it in theaters after we finished reading twilight) and made all my friends read it plus my mom :) I also saw the movie 10 times and I now know the movie word for word.. yes I know.. I need professional help!!! :)

First month it was out! XD

and OMG New Moon took sooooooooo long to show up! For a long time I thought it was just gonna be Twilight and was way sad but then I got news of New Moon and the obsession started… xD haha

I was the first person of everyone I know to read it, and now I hardly talk to anyone who hasn’t! It’s so strange! and the age range has grown HUGELY as well. I’ve had conversations with 70 year olds at Sam’s Club about it and just yesterday talked to a girl who looked about 9 about it in a pet store because she liked my Twilight hoody… haha

Has anyone else who read it in 2005 read the series a ridiculous amount of times? I’m at 13 Twilight, 12 1/2 New Moon, 8 Eclipse, and 3 Breaking Dawn. Not including the millions of times I reread specific scenes….

I agree with you Missy, I hate how a lot of people automatically criticize Twilight now just because so many people have fallen in love with the series. And I hate how some people who DO read it still let the hype affect the way they view the story. It was so nice being able to read the novels without any preconceived notions or people to ruin it for you.

I became hooked May of 2008. I heard about the movie on MTV one day, and it sounded interesting. So, I looked up the series on Wikipedia, read the info, and bought Twilight. I’ve been hooked ever since. Now that I have read Twilight,New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. I have moved on to reading the books that inspired them. I’m on Wuthering Heights at the moment. So, it has inspired me to read the classics.

June 6th, 2008: the day I began Twilight. I knew about the series beforehand thanks to Facebook flair, so I borrowed them from my roomie that Saturday. I was hooked!! I had plans to visit my family on the 12th for a weekend at the beach, and my roomie needed to take the books back to the library. So I stayed up late and finished through Eclipse by Wednesday night so I could leave for the beach after work. But I ended up spending most of my workday Facebooking my roomie with all of my reactions and questions; I discovered the Twilight Lexicon then when I should’ve been writing for the website I work for!

I’ve also re-read the entire series recently, which is extremely important for me because before Saga, I didn’t believe in re-reading books. I wish I could claim that I were an original fan, but Twilight came out my sophomore year of college… not a lot of talk about them at uni!

I’m the biggest fan! I know everything about Twilight. I love Edward Cullen.” I’ve been a fan since the beginning. And all the posers I see are ticking me and the other original fans off. >.>

I really missed the good old days. I too am a little disappointed at the percentage of “old-timers” in this poll.
