Borders Announces Midnight Release Parties and a Special Edition DVD

The Borders exclusive Twilight disc is now available for pre-order on Borders.com, along with the standard 2-disc set that will be sold at other retailers.
Additionally, Borders will be hosting Twilight DVD release night parties in all of our Borders stores. Start time and specific party details to come, but parties will begin the evening of March 20 and go to midnight release of DVD.

Tri-Fold Packaging
- The finish of the rigid case is a tactile coating called "soft touch", which is a smooth, almost velvety/rubbery matte finish. A pattern of tree branches will be foil stamped over the matte coating, which creates beautiful tone on tone imagery. The title treatment is foil stamped in a silver/blue, which completes the effect.
Exclusive Photo Cards
- The exclusive photo cards are printed on 2-sided pearlescent shine stock, which has a sparkle effect imbedded in the paper. The (10) photo cards look really amazing on this special stock, and the back sides have the same tree pattern from the inside of the rigid case, carrying the design throughout.

Question: So, what is the difference between this set and the normal 2-disc set? Does this actually have 3 DVDs? Will the Blu Ray contain all this stuff? I am so confused with everything. I just want to get the right one, but I don’t want to buy it and realize I could have gotten one with more features somewhere else.

The DVD isn’t 3-disc.
Borders is letting you pre-order the ACTUAL 2-disc movie DVD, but they’re also including their OWN 2-disc DVD of all the Borders-related Twilight stuff. Like interviews and behind-the-scenes or whatever. So, if you pre-order the movie somewhere else, you won’t get the Borders DVD.

I really don’t think this is fair, that they have it exclusive with borders. What about us that live in Canada?
They should just include the same special features on one 2-disk special edition DVD available everywhere.

Greetings all - Rich from Borders here. I see some questions about what is different about our special edition. Our 2-disc DVD has all of the special bonus content you see on the Amazon disc, PLUS all of the interviews we conducted with cast at Comic-Con, our red carpet premiere footage and interviews, including never before seen stuff, plus the full Borders Book Club discussion with Stephenie Meyer and fans that were selected with the help of Pel and Alphie at Twilight Lexicon. Plus, our edition includes the photo cards (not available anywhere else at DVD Mach release) and the special packaging. Hope that helps.

I agree … they should release the regular dvd and then one special two-disc edition. Enough of this “exclusive” stuff! I don’t want to order mine online, I want to walk into a store and get it, but there aren’t Borders near me. And what if I get that one, but then a different store comes out with a different version that has more features?
Honestly, this is getting to be a bit much. I don’t even want to see what the marketing campaign is going to be like for the next movies!

Is this available in Blu-Ray? I don’t see that anywhere in the details. I’ve never pre-ordered before, does anyone know if it will be delivered on Saturday, March 21? Ana and Jesssaka - both of your questions involve ordering online and picking up at a store the night or day of release.
We are working on details of that now, as we understand that people may want to be at the party and order online. I’ll post here again tomorrow with more details on that question. I can tell you that all Borders stores will be carrying the Special Edition and will have copies for sale at the Midnight parties and day of release.
Obviously, there is a possibility we could sell out a specific location, but midnight party attendees should be able to get a copy of Borders Exclusive edition. Again, more details here tomorrow.

Ok there is still one thing that I am unclear about….on the Borders exclusive disc it says there are “5 extended scenes and 5 deleted scenes”. Are these different extended/deleted scenes than the ones on the regular (non-Borders) 2 disc set? Or the sames ones that will be included on the 2nd disc of the standard release set?

Heidi - the 5 extended scenes and 5 deleted scenes are the same scenes featured on other retailers bonus disc. For this March 21 release, we all received the same deleted and extended scenes. Same as standard release set.

Ahh! This so sucks!
I mean, it’s really awesome and all about the bonus exclusive Borders stuff, but I already pre-ordered my Twilight DVD from Amazon a week or so ago, so I don’t GET any of the awesome Borders exclusive stuff. So sad… And so incredibly unfair!
And another thing that’s super unfair:
Murfreesboro, TN has a Barnes & Noble, a Books A Million, a Hastings, and various other bookstores that I can’t think of off the top of my head, but we don’t have ANY Borders bookstores.
Waaahhh!
So I guess I’ll have to get my mom to cancel the Amazon order and get her to pay six bucks more to buy the Borders one. I guess that doesn’t sound so hard.

Em this is actually a question to the good people at Borders: I was wondering if for us Twi-hard fans in Europe, whether or not the Borders edition is Region 1 (as in American and Canadian region) or Region Free?! Being honest if it’s Region 1 I’m still gonna buy it cause I’ve got an all-region DVD player but I just wanted to clear that up.

Thanks for putting up the Borders special edition dvd information because I just cancelled my Amazon preorder for Borders. I would love to go to the midnight party as I had gone to the midnight party at Borders for the last HP book, but none of my friends like Twilight. I’m glad Borders is offering more to their dvd, it should be worth it.

UPDATE:
I just successfully got my mom to cancel the Amazon order and I got this one pre-ordered.
I just wish I could get it like a day before or at least the day of the release date.
It’s stupid that they don’t ship it until then when you pre-ordered it two months in advance.
Also, I’m curious about the release party because I will gladly venture to Nashville that night if it’s worth it.
Otherwise, I’ll stay home Twitubing if the only part of the party is BUYING the DVD.

I just did my pre-order for two DVDs. Had $5 in Borders Bucks that I was able to apply, and that canceled out the tax. Yay! Went with the free shipping because I’m not spending $8 on 2-3 day shipping and $15+ on next day shipping - I can wait. When I did my check out they did have option to pick up at the store, but I think there just shipping your order to the store.
But, thanks for posting this because I would have never known…until I got Borders newsletter, but who knows when they would have announced it. Now if only I could find Twilight bookmarks, they were a bigger seller than I thought they would have been.

Kristy, I checked every Borders in New York City, except for the ones at the airport. And I only saw the bookmarks once. It was New Years week, and I only bought one for my cousin. If I had known they were going to be such a hot commodity I would have picked up more. But, I’m going to start searching again.

For those who want to buy it in a Borders store (which you can’t do at the moment) you do realize that you will be paying the list price, which is $39.99 (plus tax). I doubt they will discount it, but you never know, I’m not the expert here just going by what I’ve seen.

If that’s all Hot Topic is offering then it’s not worth it, in my opinion. The smart thing to do would have been for them to create a bonus disc with all the Hot Topic tour footage.
For people asking about the Blu-ray, rumor has it, that Best Buy and Target will carry the Blu-ray until May, and then it will become available in all stores. The thing is that I’m not sure if you can order it online, it might be a store only thing. In addition, it’s still a rumor, maybe by February we will know if it’s an official thing or not.

Maggie and Laura and Tina - Borders will be carrying the Blu-Ray version of Twilight - but not until early May. Until then, there is an exclusive Blu-Ray deal with two other big retailers. One of those retailers is red and the other is blue - will let you figure that out
Mel - Borders stores will be selling the Borders Exclusive for the same discounted price as Borders.com — $29.99.
Samantha - we ship prior to official release day in stores, but it is doubtful you’d receive your copy of Twilight, shipped to your Canada address on release day without expedited shipping option. Will try to find out more info there for you.

It’s a fairly recent trend: DVDs being packaged in various editions, each containing an exclusive: the Indiana Jones DVD (Crystal Skull) came out in, oh, maybe five different variations?
It’d be most helpful if someone at the Lexicon did a comparison chart by listing ALL the features on the left side, and columns A, B, C, D, etc., by vendor, with check marks to indicate inclusion. This way, it’d be easy for everybody to see what’s available, what features they’d want to buy, and who’s selling what.
As it is now, three (so far) listings of various DVD packages, with duplicative information, is causing widespread confusion, and understandably so.
PS: I’m going for the Borders edition myself: it’s the best buy….

In order ahead of time for store pickup at parties, order online and choose Ship to Store. TO ALL THE BLU-RAY PEOPLE - all these versions are confusing, I realize. Here’s the scoop on Blu-Ray: Target and Best Buy have exclusive on standard Blu-Ray package until May 5 (arrgh!) After May 5, everyone will be able to sell standard Blu-Ray edition. Borders will sell standard Blu-Ray set on May 5. The Borders Exclusive package - with special packaging, photocards, and added bonus content — will not be available on Blu-Ray. There will be a special version of Blu-Ray by another competitor, Amazon as of May 5. That’s the facts on Blu-Ray.
TO THERESA - We are still stocking most of our Twilight Merchandise - and have some cool new stuff coming in. Here’s the deal - Calendars are just about gone now. Sorry - ebay is only option. But we are restocking jewelry, t-shirts, bookmarks, and other stuff. New stuff we are getting in Feb and March:
- Edward Action figures - in most stores now
- Twilight Tote Bag
- Edward watch (sort of a swatch watch thing)

- Lapel pins (Team Edward and Team Jacob),

Finally, I love Sara’s comment above (#52) about how to cancel your Amazon pre-order. Don’t mind that at all here at Borders
This DVD biz is confusing, but my guess is Twilight Lexicon and other sites will help you wade through it all!

ok this is totally unfair..I wish they told us this sooner..I already pre-ordered my copy of the dvd from FYE, ugggg this sucks, I am soo mad. hmm..oh ya know what, I just thought of something..I can always give that copy of the dvd to my little sis, and pre-order my copy of the dvd from borders. dunno if my parents will be happy bout that but hey, I WANT THOSE EXTRA FEATURES, lol!

Lilyrose: that I can guarantee. ALL dvds come with Enlighs subtitles. They have to for the hearing-impaired.
I don’t know about spanish though. I know they always include french but, they probably will for spanish too.

I am so sad, I want Blu-Ray but I want Border’s packaging but it’s not gonna happen. Maybe I should just wait for the Director’s cut version…
